April 5, 2006 -- MISCHA Barton seems to be trying really hard to wiggle
out of doing "The O.C." any longer.
Barton, worried about the show's spiraling ratings - and concerned
about being typecast as a bratty teen - frequently calls in sick or
arrives late to the set, according to a report in Life & Style
magazine.
The publication quotes insiders who work on the show as being annoyed
by Barton's sickouts and tardiness - especially since she's been known
to hit the town and party hearty (and is the frequent subject of
gossip-column items).
"She's definitely flirting with leaving the show," says one source.
"But the real problem now is that she isn't taking work seriously."
Barton, 20, has played pampered princess Marissa Cooper on "The O.C."
since the Fox show's 2003 premiere.
Once a hot ticket among the teen set, "The O.C." has seen its ratings
drop from nearly 10 million viewers its first season to around 5.4
million this season, according to Nielsen.
Barton co-stars on the show - which revolves around the privileged
lives of people in Orange County, Calif. - with Peter Gallagher, Kelly
Rowan, Benjamin McKenzie, Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson.
"We don't comment on rumor or speculation," said a spokeswoman for
Warner Bros., which produces "The O.C."
Barton has been romantically linked to Cisco Adler, "Brokeback
Mountain" co-star Jake Gyllenhaal and Hollywood oil heir Brandon Davis.
She'll be seen in the upcoming movies "Hexxx," "Closing the Ring" and

Hollywood began the final countdown to Sunday's Oscars,
with a posse of "serious" films, led by "Brokeback
Mountain," set to overrun the big night.
As workers frantically put the finishing touches on
preparations for the 78th annual Academy Awards, which
start with the legendary red carpet celebrity fashion
show, the anxious nominees are crossing their fingers.
In a year laden with small-budget movies packing weighty
political or social messages, Taiwan director Ang Lee's
film about gay cowboys is the frontrunner for the top
awards, including best picture and best director.
"We're almost there and I think 'Brokeback' is still
leading the race," said veteran Hollywood Reporter online
columnist Marty Grove.
But the aching story of two macho farmhands who fall in
love despite themselves and pursue an unfulfilled 20-year
romance faces a last-minute challenge from a dark horse,
Paul Haggis's racial drama "Crash."
"The buzz is that the threat to 'Brokeback' from 'Crash'
is now very real," awards expert Tom O'Neil of the
website theEnvelope.com said of the tiny independent
movie that may crash Ang Lee's party.
"'Brokeback' has a passionate following, but you also
have 'Capote' and 'Transamerica' this year and they may
have created a gay fatigue," he told AFP.
But like other pundits, O'Neil is still betting that the
offbeat Western which has swept Hollywood's awards season
and led the Oscars race from the start will still rope in
five statuettes Sunday.
It rides into the Oscars armed with a leading eight
nominations, including best picture, director, best actor
for Australia's Heath Ledger'>Heath Ledger and best supporting role
nods for Jake Gyllenhaal'>Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Williams.
The movie faces off against the six-times nominated

to win the best actor Oscar for his staggering title role
in Bennett Miller's biopic, facing off against the
Australian star of "Brokeback," Heath Ledger'>Heath Ledger, 26.
Also vying for the award is Joaquin Phoenix, who played
country star Johnny Cash in the biopic "Walk the Line,"
nominated for five Oscars, David Strathairn, for his role

actor categories, so we may see the jaw-dropper of the

Great point, too many of our young believe Hollyweird
portrays history correctly. Many can not and will not
read history books.
However, back to Brokenbutt Mountin and where Hollyweird
is shall be fun. They have put themselves between a rock
and upset gayboys. If it does not win they will be
protesting that Hollyweird caved to the religious
fanatics.
By the way have you heard the top five movies nominated
have only been see by 10% of the population. Guess that
shows the rest of us how out of sync we are with those

Hollywood actor JAKE GYLLENHAAL has never worked harder in his life since
starring in upcoming DAVID FINCHER movie ZODIAC.
The Oscar-nominated star, 25, plays real-life author ROBERT GRAYSMITH in the
real-life story of the police hunt for the zodiac serial killer who
terrorised the San Francisco Bay area of California in the 1960s and 1970s.
To this day, the murderer has never been caught.
Gyllenhaal, currently filming the thriller, admits he is having to get used
to shooting repeated takes to satisfy perfectionist Fincher.
He says, "My idea of what is easy and what is hard has been completely
changed by this film.
"The first day, the first set-up, we did 67 takes. I was trying to determine
if it was a joke."

Ledger Asks Gyllenhaal To Be Godfather

"Brokeback Mountain" co-stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger have become
so close, Ledger has asked Gyllenhaal to be godfather to his 4-month-old
daughter Matilda.
Gyllenhaal, whose turn in the movie earned him a Best Supporting Actor BAFTA
on Sunday, credits the movie with building a unique bond between them.
He says, "Heath and I are best friends now -- making the film was very
intense for us.
"I'm actually godfather to Heath's daughter Matilda, which is an amazing
honor."
In other Gyllenhaal news, the shirt he wore portraying gay cowboy Jack Twist
in "Brokeback Mountain" has sold for $101,100 on auction eBay.
The checked shirt went on sale earlier this month and sold late Monday to a
mystery fan, using the handle "hlywdstar," after 165 bids were placed.
The item's original bid was $9.99.
The proceeds from the shirt sale will benefit Variety -- The Children's
Charity of Southern California.

I just want to take the opportunity to say that I saw this movie on
Friday, and I was truly moved. For those wanting to see it:
- the sex is overhyped - there are only two scenes, both very brief,
and one kiss. There's almost as much hetero sex shown.
- It's a lot slower than I would have thought - the first half hour
really drags.
- The end is an emotional "wham." Bring Kleenex.
- Heath Ledger is as deserving of an Oscar as everyone says. His
performance is phenomenal. I hardly recognized him.
- The scenery is spectacular. Try to see it on a big screen.
My husband went with me, and we drove an hour away to see it (it's only
playing at one theatre in Michigan.) I told him I needed to see it,
and he asked if it was part of my "liberal merit badge" requirement for
Girl Scouts ;-)
