Hilton flees blaze at Killers concert
17/10/2005 - 12:44:29
Fans of American rockers The Killers were thrown into a state of panic at
the band's recent Las Vegas concert, when a palm tree caught on fire.
Paris Hilton and her pals Kimberly Stewart and Bijou Phillips were among the
revellers at the 7 October event, which was put on to celebrate the one-year
anniversary of Body English at the Hard Rock Hotel.
But the three beauties, who were seated in the front-row VIP section, were
among the first to flee their seats when, threequarters of the way through
the show, a hotel guest flicked a cigarette from a balcony in the palm
fronds, sparking the blaze.
Black smoke engulfed the area, as firefighters quickly put the flames out.
Hilton and her pals sought safety inside the hotel.
The band continued to play, unaware of the fiasco, as the fans' screams
drowned out the sirens.

Hilton Caught Up in Paparazzi Fight
Hollywood socialites Paris Hilton and Bijou Phillips were caught up in a
fight outside Los Angeles hotspot Mood on Wednesday night when Hilton's
bodyguard attacked a photographer. The high-profile pair were leaving the
club after partying with Bruce Willis, Lindsay Lohan and Eddie Murphy when a
brawl broke out in the street. The unnamed minder took offence when one
snapper got too close to him and pushed him to the ground, yelling, "Don't
ever touch me." Hilton tried to defuse the situation by signing photographs
from the front seat of her silver Bentley before driving off.
NY DAILY NEWS...RUSH AND MOLLOY
Hollywood hellion Bijou Phillips bailed on a Social Life magazine cover
shoot over the weekend, costing publisher Justin Mitchell $5,000 and
leaving the mag to scramble for a Labor Day cover girl.
A spy says the Hamptons glossy arranged for car service for the rock
heiress early Saturday morning, but Bijou never met the car nor did she
answer repeated cell-phone calls.
Social Life replaced the aspiring model/actress with "Hustle & Flow"
star Taryn Manning at the last minute.
Bijou's rep, Brian Young, says Mitchell didn't go through the right
channels to set up the shoot - but even so, he made a good-faith effort
to cancel it, leaving a last-minute message for the publisher.
"It just beeped. It may have been the wrong number. I think if you are
a publisher or an editor you should know not to rely on someone without
talking to their publicist or manager first."
Word was Bijou had been whisked off to Los Angeles to do a read-through
of "Se7en" director David Fincher's new flick, "Zodiac."
Of course, one spy spotted Bijou partying hard at Marquee nightclub
with boyfriend Danny Masterson Friday night.

By ELISA LIPSKY-KARASZ
April 17, 2005 -- WE all know celebrities get free stuff - swag - just
for being famous. But did you know that there are some stars who eat,
fly, sleep, party, do virtually everything in their day-to-day life for
free? All they do is demand it, take it, or simply walk out on the tab.
The Hollywood "gimme!" syndrome has run amuck.
"It's at a fever pitch right now. It's assumed that if you are a
celebrity and show up that you will get something. There are so many
real stars and quote-unquote stars who don't even understand that you
'buy' things anymore," says Lori Majewski, executive editor of Us
Weekly. It's one thing if you are Cameron Diaz, who has free clothing
forced on her even if she offers to pay for it. When she wears a top on
the cover of Us Weekly, it's free advertising for that company.
But it's another when you are Lara Flynn Boyle, who was famously Punk'd
by MTV cameras when she was told she would have to actually pay after a
major shopping spree in Los Angeles. Oh, the horror!
"Jessica Simpson probably has not paid for things since she started
with 'Newlyweds,'" says Majewski, who has worked with Simpson. "People
will give her anything. It makes sense. Celebrities are walking
billboards. But there are now lesser-known celebrities who think they
are entitled.
"Reality stars are the worst. They want a free house, a free wedding,
they want everything for free. You have C- and D-list celebrities and
their hangers-on, and it's created this frenzied environment."
There's also the delicate issue of relationships. "Celebrities borrow
stuff from designers all the time and don't return it. It depends on
the garment, but designers are often reluctant to chase somebody about
it," says Mark Silver of Factory PR, who reps lines like Halston and
Tracey Reese.
So the result is Star Jones, one of the Gimme Syndrome's most notorious
victims, throwing a virtually "free" wedding to Al Reynolds by getting
"sponsors" to providing services in exchange for press coverage. But
she's not the only one manipulating the system. Here are some of the
most notorious celebrity freeloaders.
Britney Spears
The pop tartlet used to be a huge star - and as such is accustomed to
the freebie life.
Spears would often visit a Greenwich Village Starbucks to load up on
caffeine. But one day, she had enough of shelling out for the drinks.
She looked at the cashier and said, "Don't you know who I am?" to which
the cashier replied, "Yes, but you still have to pay. Sorry."
It wasn't the only time: She once attended the Broadway show "Cabaret"
at Studio 54 and, according to a spy, "She ate and drank a ton and left
early, and never paid for anything. She assumed it was free." (A Spears
rep denies the story).
Now that Britney has a baby on board, companies better watch out.
She'll be looking for gifts for two.
Sharon Stone
The "Basic Instinct" actress suffered the 'gimme' syndrome early. In
1993, Stone thought that Harry Winston had "given" her a $400,000
diamond necklace while she was promoting the movie "Sliver." When they
threatened her with criminal charges unless she gave it back, she sued
them for $12 million for "breach of contract." The suit was settled,
she gave the gems back and the jewelers agreed to make a gift to AmFar.
David Spade
The TV funnyman is a popular party guest, until he walks out on the
tab, that is. Spade was invited to a concert for a local band at Club
Cherry in Los Angeles, and his ticket was "comped"- given to him for
free.
While he watched the band play, Spade ordered up a mass of drinks. But
when he got bored, he simply left - without paying the bill!
Instead, the confused wait staff approached other guests thinking that
they would take care of the tab for him.
Rachel Hunter
Hunter, says one event publicist, never met a gift bag she didn't like.
In fact, she likes them so much she often takes four or five at a time.
She's so determined that, a few years ago, at a Maxim Magazine party in
Los Angeles, she left the party but came back to collect a few more
bags.
Unluckily for her, the police had shut down the event due to
overcrowding and were attempting to clear the area. Hunter gamely
ignored them, until finally a policeman was forced to yell over a
megaphone: "Ma'am! Step away from the goodie bags!"
Marisa Tomei
The indie princess knows that the best things in life are free.
At this year's Sundance, she demanded two of everything, since she was
starring in two movies that were in competition. One publicist said: "I
was working at a 'swag house,' and Marisa came in twice. She said that
she was in two movies and was entitled to more electronics. What can
you do but give it to her?"
Tomei also demanded that celebrity hairstylist Kevin Mancuso visit her
almost daily at her condo to prep her hair for free.
Andy Dick
He might have had his own reality-TV show, but Andy Dick knows his own
worth, and in his mind he's at least a free Vespa.
At a party for Vespa in Los Angeles, Dick reportedly threw a fit, said
a witness, when he wasn't offered one of the fancy Italian scooters in
return for showing up. "The organizers told him, 'We are not giving out
Vespas at this party, but maybe we can work something out.' They gave
him a goodie bag, but he wasn't happy."
Danny Masterson & Bijou Phillips
The young hipster couple can be double trouble. Phillips, a notorious
party girl, and her boyfriend, Masterson, invented a new game to play
while they were staying at a friends house in Park City, Utah, during
the Sundance Film Festival.
They organized a contest among the houseguests - boys against the girls
- to see who could collect the most free gifts from places like the
Shutterfly suite at the temporary Marquee West nightclub.
But the boys took a day off to go skiing, so Masterson's team lost.
"They didn't care what it was, they just wanted to see who could
collect the most free stuff!" said a source. Masterson's rep denied
that he participated.
Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs
The rap mogul knows that time is money: He reportedly charged $100,000
to Miami's Hotel Victor for partying at its opening.
But on his last trip to Miami, Combs surpassed even his own bounds of
penny-pinching.
He went to the nightclub Bed, but when he arrived, every table was full
of revelers. According to a spywitness, "he demanded the best table
with free booze. They gave him a table, but they didn't give him the
booze."
Combs grabbed the microphone and started rapping. But in revenge, "He
stops in the middle of the song," said the witness, "turns off the
music, and said 'A bottle of Hypnotq finishes the song.'" That did the
trick.
It's not the first time this has happened: When Combs was partying with
Mick Jagger at Hiro last year, he walked out on a $1,500 tab. Since he
had been gifted a dinner at neighboring restaurant Matsuri, he thought
the Cristal was on the house, too. Combs later paid up.
Anna Nicole-Smith
The bodacious former stripper went on a shopping trip at New York's Big
Drop boutique - and waltzed out with everything for free!
"Entertainment Tonight" was filming her as she was taping her "Anna
Nicole Smith" show for E!. She said she would come to the store if she
could get $2,000 worth of clothing for free. "That was the condition
that she wanted to bring her show there," said a source. Smith had
better hope that she gets a lot more free shopping trips: She famously
lost her multimillion-dollar inheritance.

BIJOU PHILLIPS GETS COMMUNITY SERVICE AND PROBATION
Hollywood socialite Bijou Phillips has pleaded no contest to an assault
charge brought against her by model Nicole Lenz.
The two party girls were involved in a fracas at a Los Angeles club last
June and had to be separated by former "Friends" star Matthew Perry.
Lenz has since hit Phillips with assault charges stemming from the alleged
attack on her -- and she even persuaded Perry to testify that she did not
try to fight back.
But it looks like the actor won't need to go to court -- Phillips accepted
she was at fault in court in Los Angeles on Wednesday and was handed
community service and probation.

Music over for Jagger and Lennon
By smh.com.au
May 18, 2004 - 11:49AM
It is the great marriage of rock dynasties that never was. Just two weeks
after Jerry Hall gushed they were "so in love", Elizabeth Jagger has
reportedly dumped Sean Lennon.
Lennon, 28, and the 20-year-old model had been an item for only seven weeks
when Hall broke the news of the romance.
"We had all these incredible family sing-songs with him around the piano.
He's adorable. He looks so like John now, and he writes beautiful poetry."
Lennon, she said, had even serenaded her with his father's song Imagine at
her home in Richmond.
But it seems that her model daughter did not agree that theirs was a music
match made in heaven.
"At the moment Lizzie is definitely a single girl on the party circuit," a
friend told British newspaper The Mail on Sunday.
"All the boys are delighted. She was seeing Sean briefly, but we were all
rather surprised that such a fuss was made of it. Lizzie is usually the
first to go on about her love life, but she was strangely quiet about Sean.
When we asked her about it, she just raised her eyebrows. She has said it
was more of a one-night stand than a full-on affair.
"It seems she's had her fun and is now ready to move on."
Jagger had previously been linked with actor Michael Wincott, 26 years her
senior. Lennon's past girlfriends include actresses Bijou Phillips and

Hollywood's nastiest girlfight just got nastier. Playboy Playmate Nicole Lenz
has filed a $1 million suit against former party pals Bijou Phillips and Casey
Johnson, accusing them of "slander, battery and intentional infliction of
emotional distress."
Lenz charges in Los Angeles Superior Court that Phillips, the actress daughter
of the late Mamas and the Papas singer John Phillips, "punched her in the face
with a closed fist and violently pulled her hair" at an MTV party earlier this
month inside an L.A. club.
Lenz claims she suffered "a good deal of neck pain" after Phillips allegedly
dragged her around by her ponytail.
She contends that Band-Aid heiress Johnson, the daughter of Jets owner Woody
Johnson, "encouraged Phillips" to "carry out this unprovoked attack."
Lenz alleges Phillips also screamed "obscenities" at her, calling her "a thief,
a whore and a prostitute" - all in front of "important" show business players.
The 20-something model charges that Johnson, her former roommate, joined
Phillips in "conspiring" to "irreparably harm her reputation" by planting
newspaper stories falsely claiming that Lenz attacked Phillips at the club and
stole over $750,000 in jewelry from Johnson's house.
Johnson's spokeswoman, Jill Eisenstadt, whom Lenz claims helped plant the
stories, declined comment.
A rep for Phillips, the former girlfriend of Sean Lennon, did not immediately
return calls.
Lenz - who, according to published reports, is rumored to have co-starred in a
homemade porn video with Paris Hilton - filed a temporary restraining order
against Phillips on June 17.
At least she can rest easy in L.A. for one night. Phillips and Johnson are due
to strut the catwalk tonight at the Charlotte Summer 2004 collection show at
the Hotel Gansevoort here.

Paris Hilton seems to want all the attention of being a model - without all the
"work."
The heiress and sometime catwalker, who was hitting the runway all over New
York for Fashion Week, popped up backstage at the Lacoste fashion show. The
show's hairstylists and makeup artists promptly performed their magic, prepping
the beauty for the show - until they found out she wasn't in it.
She was just hanging out backstage with sister Nicky and Bijou Phillips - who
both got impromptu makeovers, too. When Paris got her hair and face done
exactly as she liked, she went out and sat in the front row for the show - and
proceeded to chat with Bijou and ignore the fashion in front of her.
"Can you believe them?" one onlooker was overheard saying. "They're sitting in
the front row and they're not even paying attention."
Lacoste confirmed the touchups.
"Well, it was raining outside," a rep for the preppy brand said. But stylists
didn't find it so funny and got revenge, sniping: "Those are all hair
extensions."
Another fashionista observed, "It's like the hair of five people all on one
head."
Watch out, Paris, those brilliant styling fingers have claws.
NY POST....ELISA LIPSKY-KARASZ
August 29, 2004 -- MIAMI — The talk of the pre-parties for tonight's MTV
Video Music Awards was that newlyweds Nicky Hilton and Todd Meister already
have problems. The issue: her friends.
Last week, the two headed to their honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas with bridesmaid
Bijou Phillips and a group of friends in tow. But the 33-year-old Meister can't
stand the wild child, sources say, and he spent the entire trip laughing at
Phillips and making fun of her.
One night, Meister refused to go play poker when the group went off together to
a bar. "Be careful," Meister apparently joked to the group, "or else Bijou's
going to hook up with your boyfriends under the table!"
According to friends of the couple, Meister begged Hilton for months to get
engaged and finally the 20-year-old hotel heiress acquiesced.
Now all they have to do is find her some new friends.

BY JEFF BURBANK in Las Vegas
and JOANNA MOLLOYand BILL HUTCHINSON in New York
DAILY NEWS WRITERS
Hotel heiress Nicky Hilton beat big sister Paris to the altar, opting for a
quickie predawn wedding in Las Vegas yesterday to Manhattan money manager Todd
Andrew Meister.
The 20-year-old bride and 33-year-old groom exchanged vows in a 3 a.m. ceremony
at the Las Vegas Wedding Bureau and Vegas Chapel.
"They came in saying they wanted the best," said Shirley Harvey, the chapel's
president and co-owner. "They seemed pleased and happy when they left."
Meister is the son of Robert Meister, vice chairman of Aon Group Inc., a global
insurance brokerage firm. His mother, Wendy Meister, died of cancer at age 57
in 2001. Known as a playboy, Meister, who owns a private plane and homes on
Park Ave. and in Palm Beach, Fla., has dated a string of socialites.
He began dating Hilton last year after she dumped ex-MTV veejay Bryan McFayden.
"He's a longtime friend of the family," said Couri Hay, a close friend of
Nicky's parents, Kathy and Rick Hilton. "I've seen him at Christmases and
birthdays in Southampton, New York and Aspen. I know that Kathy and Rick really
like him," Hay told the Daily News.
Hay insisted the wedding was "not an unreasonable Britney Spears moment,"
referring to the pop singer's quickie Vegas marriage in January that lasted 55
hours. "It was a quiet friendship that has apparently blossomed into love and
then marriage," Hay said.
Harvey refused to give details of the couple's wedding but she said they
demanded that digital cameras, available to broadcast the wedding on the
Internet, be turned off. Maybe Nicky is learning from her big sister's
mistakes: Paris was embroiled in a scandal last year when a private porn video
of her was leaked over the Internet.
Sources said Paris, 23, was on hand for her little sister's wedding. Other
guests included actress Bijou Phillips and comedian Jeff Beacher.
Nicky Hilton, a part-time actress and handbag designer, flew into Vegas on
Friday night to attend a weekend casino party sponsored by Stuff magazine. She
arrived in the desert gambling mecca with Paris and her sidekick Nicole Richie,
Phillips and actress Tara Reid.
The Hiltons and Meister attended the Stuff magazine soiree at the Palms Hotel &
Casino with MTV's Vanessa Minnillo, actress Lindsay Lohan and her boyfriend,
Wilmer Valderrama, 'NSync's Lance Bass and Dominique Swain.
At Saturday night's wild late-night pool party, Phillips was photographed
throwing pillows at swimmers.
Harvey said that just before midnight, a representative of the bride called the
chapel to reserve some time at the altar.
"We were getting close to closing, so when we got their call we just thought
they wanted it private so we stayed open for them," said Harvey, adding that
Hilton and Meister were among 30 couples to get married at the chapel
yesterday.

A rep for Phillips, the former girlfriend of Sean Lennon, did not immediately
return calls.

HOLLYWOOD hellcat Bijou Phillips nearly lost one of her nine lives
after a run-in with Michelle Rodriguez, the Jersey City-bred toughie
who showed off her boxing skills in the 2000 indie flick "Girlfight."
Phillips, who was hanging out with Paris and Nicky Hilton, spit on
Rodriguez's friend, Francesca, outside Kevin Mazur's photo studio on
Saturday night. "Bijou I guess had lost a boyfriend to her, and so she
spat on my friend," Rodriguez told PAGE SIX yesterday. Phillips managed
to get away from Rodriguez immediately after the incident, but the
two-fisted "Blue Crush" babe caught up with her later that night. "I
told her to lay off my friend because that is some childish [bleep] and
if she wanted to be childish, I could urinate on her," Rodriguez said.
"If she would have spit on me, I would have hurt her, believe me. I
came here to meet directors - I didn't come her to deal with these
childish little girls." Earlier, a bonkers Bijou burst into the Kiehl's
lounge yelling, "An ax murderer is trying to kill me!"

New brat pack pals Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton erupted in a screaming match
over seating at a hot Hollywood party Dec. 15. The glittering girls, who
happily dined with Ashlee Simpson just two nights before, were not even
speaking when they arrived separately for dinner at restaurant Sushi Roku in
Hollywood. By the time they got to club promoter Brent Bolthouse's birthday
bash at trendy club Concorde, their claws were out.
PARIS WINS
Star People's eyewitness spotted Lohan and her entourage strolling into
Concorde at 11 p.m. and settling into one of the four VIP booths. But when
23-yearold Paris Hilton arrived at 11:30, the heiress marched straight to
Lohan, 18, and demanded, "Get out of our table!" Although Lindsay suggested
Paris and her posse sit at other open spots, the duo soon began screaming into
each other's faces. Concorde's managers finally separated the two -- with
Lindsay eventually moving across the club and Paris claiming the disputed
booth.
AIR KISSING
Surrounded by fellow brat packers Ashlee Simpson, Fred Durst, Nicole Richie,
Kirsten Dunst, Leelee Sobieski, Chad Muska and Bijou Phillips, Paris further
drew stares when she butted into conversations and crawled on the floor
searching for her lost cell phone. Across the room, Nicole blew air kisses at
good friend Kirsten Dunst, while Ashlee Simpson smiled as she was
"accidentally" bumped by men on the dance floor. When a techno remix of
"California Dreamin'" played, Ashlee sung at full blast while wild Bijou
Phillips --who's parents were in The Mamas and The Papas -- stood on a table
shrieking, "These are my parents!"

"Bijou Phillips- you never knew what the f**k she would say or do next. There is no line between her unconscious and her articulation of it and her behavior. She is a genuine psychopath. I say that with affection and admiration, because she's also incredibly smart and talented, so she knows how to amuse and how to get and hold attention. If she were just a psychopath, you wouldn't want to use her; you'd just be bored. But she is always amusing and interesting, and if one thing isn't working she has a good sense of it, and she just starts on something else." - James Toback
On modeling: "It was like, I wanted to go swimming in the ocean, but I was jumping up and down in a puddle."
On being world-weary: "I never had innocence."
On music: "Music is real; it's something you can touch and feel. It moves you - the bass literally shakes you and rocks you from the inside. Music makes your soul feel amazing while you're performing it. It's not air, it's not wind, it's not anything like that. It's solid. It's thick. It's like summertime in New York."
