Hollywood's hot couples were out in force on Oscar night. But while
some bronzed themselves in camera flash, others dodged the shooters.
Madonna did her best to dispel rumors of marital discord by making sure
every photographer outside the Vanity Fair party got a picture of her
with smiling husband Guy Ritchie. Likewise, reunited couple Nicollette
Sheridan and Michael Bolton trumpeted their love.
"I'm a lucky palooka," Bolton told us as he admired his Desperate
Housewife. He even sang to her: "Love is lovelier, the second time
around ..."
Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn, on the other hand, came =ADseparately
to editor Graydon Carter's exclusive party at Morton's. Seeing him,
Aniston screamed, "Baby!" and ran over to her big lug for a long kiss.
Later, they evaded the lensmen by sneaking out a side exit.
George Clooney and Krista Allen also kept photographers guessing. The
Best Supporting Actor celebrated his win at Dan Tana's with Madonna and
Guy, Rachel Weisz and Darren Aronofsky, and other friends. But "The
Insider's" Marc Malkin says he heard that Clooney and Allen also
slipped out the back while the Ritchies distracted paparazzi.
Among the other devoted duos at the Vanity Fair bash: Nicole Kidman and

way back to hubby Chad Lowe, arrived without him - but she was
wearing her wedding ring.
Swank, who presented Philip Seymour Hoffman with his Best Actor trophy,
reassured the "Capote" star when he forgot to thank his girlfriend,
Mimi O'Donnell. "No one forgot like I forgot," said Swank, who famously
neglected to mention Lowe when she won her first Oscar. "But people
will understand."
Hoffman told us the whole experience was "nerve-racking." (At least he
didn't have to "bark" his acceptance speech, as he once promised
director Bennett Miller and writer Dan Futterman in a drunken moment.
"They let me off the hook, but said, 'If you do bark, we will meow,"
recalled Hoffman.)
Of course, Robert Altman was there with his wife of 47 years, Kathryn.
Having revealed in his Oscar speech that he had a heart transplant 10
years ago, Altman admitted that he worried then that "no one would hire
me." Kathryn recalled how they got USA Today to "correct" a Variety
story reporting the surgery. "We denied it like hell," she said. "And
his career went on. It had a happy ending."
Elsewhere at the Vanity Fair party, worlds collided when novelist
Salman Rushdie hung out with Three 6 Mafia, who won gold for "It's Hard
Out Here for a Pimp." "That's the song I was really rooting for," said
Rushdie. "I really liked 'Hustle and Flow.'"
Rapper Juicy Jay was not as familiar with Rushdie's "Satanic Verses,"
but he did like the poetry of Rushdie's wife, Padma Lakshmi, as the
model and actress shook to the music on top of an ottoman. "Oooh," said
Juicy.

March 7, 2006 -- WITH another Oscar-cast under its belt, Hollywood's
A-list boozed and schmoozed into the wee hours of yesterday morning.
High in the hills at Soho House L.A., Mike DeLuca, Rick Yorn and
Patrick Whitesell hosted their annual "after-after party" for VIPs
looking to cut loose after Vanity Fair's tightly ed to-do at
Mortons.
And let loose they did. "Everyone said I was fat, so I did something
about it," slap-happy songbird Mariah Carey blurted to Page Six,
seemingly out of nowhere.
"Here! Feel my thighs! Feel my butt!"
After several requests, Page Six agreed to fondle her newly firmed
physique, and can confirm the absence of unsightly "jelly."
"See?" Carey said, proudly. "I'll never be a stick woman, but now I'm
fierce!"
Across the room, Brittany Murphy sported an engagement rock the size of
a boulder as Owen Wilson, Jennifer Lopez and hubby Marc Anthony worked
the crowd. Later, Paris Hilton argued loudly with her Greek
meal-ticket, Stavros Niarchos. Benicio Del Toro was spotted scarfing
down waffles in the kitchen.
Earlier in the evening, Vanity Fair honcho Graydon Carter's newly
svelte guest list made for "the best Oscar party in five years,"
according to one elated invitee.
At one point, Page Six introduced much-arrested actor Mickey Rourke to
L.A. Police Chief Bill Bratton - though they didn't exactly hit it off.
"You're a cop, right?," squinty-eyed Rourke asked suspiciously as
Madonna and Guy Ritchie looked on. Informed that Bratton, New York's
former police commissioner, was, in fact, L.A.'s "top cop," Rourke
skulked off toward the exit.
Other amusing guests at the VF gala:
* Joaquin Phoenix, who showed up with two "dates," his mother and
sister - leading one there to quip: "Well, that's good. He's got one
girlfriend in New York, one in L.A., and another one that floats. I
guess this got him out of asking any of them to the party and p - - -

Like Callista, Holly Hunter is another endomorph and has a naturally
slight frame.
Lindsay lost weight because her party animal habits ran out of control,
but she's tacitly admitted her problem to the public and stopped doing
it.
Although not chubby per se, as a teen Ricci had enough weight to bury
her figure. She had to do something to bring out the curves and paid
the price for it.
Starlets should lose weight under the care of a doctor, not by
themselves.

personality by her British co-stars in upcoming movie Love And Other
Disasters.
The 8 Mile star is based in London all summer as she films the romantic
comedy - and has found her warm southern manners are too 'nice' for the
honest Brit cast and crew.
Co-star, comedienne Catherine Tate says: "She's genuinely, incredibly
sincere but I think in this country we take that with a pinch of salt.

NEW YORK - Brittany Murphy is the first celebrity Jordache jeans girl.
She stars in a series of new ads for the company that became famous
during the 1970s' designer jeans craze.
The ads, shot by Patrick Demarchelier, are a twist on the horse-head
logo, with the 27-year-old actress wearing the jeans and a sweater and
posing on a horse with no saddle. Jordache said the first ads will run
in national publications beginning in September.
"We chose Brittany as our model because she epitomizes everything that
the updated Jordache brand is about," Liz Berlinger, president of
Jordache enterprises, said in a statement Monday. "She is a classic
beauty with an individual sense of style. That really comes across when
you meet her."
Murphy's screen credits include "8 Mile," "Just Married" and "Sin
City."
At the photo shoot in upstate New York, Murphy told Jordache executives
that it was the first time she had ridden a horse. After spending the
day with Cloud, Murphy said she might take riding lessons when she's
done filming her new movie "Love and Other Disasters."
The Jordache Vintage line is available in upscale stores, while the
junior label is sold in Wal-Mart.

American actress Brittany Murphy has moved to London and landed a job at
style bible Vogue - in preparation for her latest film role.
The 27-year-old star has set up home in the British capital over the summer
as she films upcoming comedy Love And Other Disasters.
Murphy enthuses: "The film is a true British ensemble comedy. My character
is the assistant to the head of UK Vogue so I'm learning to be a true, blue
Anglophile.
"I'm loving this city. I never thought I'd find a city so close to my heart
as Manhattan, but this definitely comes a close second.
"I moved to London about a week ago. There's a great cast - Catherine Tate
and Matthew Rhys - and I'm so excited. I'm thrilled to be here and call
London my second home."

Hollywood starlet Brittany Murphy opened the Harrods summer sale today.
The 27-year-old actress took a tour of the Knightsbridge store with owner
Mohamed Al Fayed. First stop was the pet shop where she picked up two King
Charles spaniel puppies and declared: "I've fallen in love!"
Then it was on to the jewellery department where she tried on nearly
?450,000 worth of diamonds - reduced to half price.
Murphy, star of Sin City and Eight Mile, arrived at the store in a
horse-drawn carriage led by bagpipers.
She wore a black mini dress and shielded herself from the sun with a
matching parasol. The actress led the traditional countdown to the opening
of the doors at 9am.
Murphy is currently living in London to film her latest movie Love And Other
Disasters.
She said: "This is an absolutely incredible honour to be opening this

The stunt was part of the new Jordache jeans advertising campaign featuring

Kidman to voice penguin

Nicole Kidman is to voice a penguin in George Miller's upcoming animated
feature 'Happy Feet'.
Nicole, who also stars in Miller's upcoming 'Bewitched', says it's a very
small role.
'Happy Feet' is Miller's first movie since 'Babe: Pig in the City' seven
years ago. He previously directed the 'Mad Max' trilogy and 'The Witches of
Eastwick'.
Also lending voices to the production are Brittany Murphy, Hugh Jackman,
Elijah Wood and Robin Williams. The film will be released in November 2006.

Hollywood actress Brittany Murphy has fond memories of her lesbian onscreen
kiss with Reese Witherspoon in Freeway, and it remains her favourite
celluloid smooch to this day.
The 27-year-old has kissed plenty of men during her film career to date, but
particularly enjoyed getting romantic with Witherspoon in director Matthew
Bright's 1996 movie.
She tells British magazine Maxim: "I've been fortunate with the gentlemen
I've kissed for work.
"Though I will admit that my most memorable onscreen kiss was with Reese
Witherspoon in Freeway, just because we were laughing so much.
"And my longest was with Joanne Vannicola for this movie called Common
Ground."

Coventry superstar Clive Owen wowed the crowd at the premiere of summer
blockbuster Sin City last night.
The former Binley Park schoolboy - who learned his craft at the Belgrade
Theatre - arrived at London's Leicester Square with stunning actress Jessica
Alba on his arm.
Owen's co-star Brittany Murphy was also at the screening and spent an hour
signing autographs for fans outside the cinema.
The 27-year-old beauty said she was overwhelmed by fans' response to the
film.
"This is my first British premiere and it's like nothing I've ever seen
before," she said.
Based on the cult graphic novel by Frank Miller, Sin City is a dark and
violent film set in a crime-invested metropolis.
Murphy stars opposite Owen, who has been tipped as the next James Bond.
She said: "I've been a fan of Pierce Brosnan for years and years. But if
Pierce doesn't play Bond I think Clive would do an outstandingly superb job.
He's devastatingly gorgeous - and married."
Madonna put in a surprise appearance, turning up hand-in-hand with director
husband Guy Ritchie.

Madonna left Hollywood beauty Brittany Murphy speechless last night, when
the superstar appeared as a surprise guest at the British premiere of Sin
City.
Murphy joined her Sin City co-stars Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Michael
Madsen and Clive Owen, as well as director Robert Rodriguez on the red
carpet of the Empire Leicester Square, ahead of the film's UK release next
week.
Starstruck Murphy couldn't believe her eyes when Madonna and husband Guy
Ritchie suddenly arrived at the cinema.
The 27-year-old actress gushed, "It's probably the second time I've ever
been star-struck in my life.
"She's my idol. If I meet her at the party I will shyly and meekly shake her
hand."
