Shiloh is not a bad name, as far as celebrity baby names go.
Jolie could have come up with something really bizarre.
Woody Allen and Mia Farrow'>Mia Farrow had one biological child
together, a son he named Satchel. After all the ugliness
when Woody's affair Soon-Yi was discovered, Satchel
changed his name to Seamus, I read somewhere that it
was his decision. At least two of the adopted kids also
changed their names.
Woody Allen and Soon-Yi have two adopted daughters
named Bechet and Maisie.

NOTA BENE
'Blackout: World War II and the Origins of Film Noir'
By NINA C. AYOUB
French critics coined the term "film noir" in 1946 after a series of
brooding dramas from wartime Hollywood finally made their French debut.
Yet, says Sheri Chinen Biesen, noir is often seen as a predominantly
postwar phenomenon. She argues that many critics and film historians
have ignored the genre's links to World War II. Some have even echoed
the screenwriter, director, and critic Paul Schrader, who wrote that
the war temporarily pre-empted a flowering noir trend.
It's just the opposite, says Ms. Biesen, a film historian at Rowan
University. In Blackout: World War II and the Origins of Film Noir
(Johns Hopkins University Press), she shows how the film industry and
journalists of the period were well aware of what some called a "red
meat" genre. The author links noir's violent, shadowy aesthetic to
wartime constraints on Hollywood, including such practical concerns as
the rationing of film stock and electricity; the desire to disguise
recycled sets in darkness, fog, rain, or smoke; the loss of thousands
of personnel to military duty; and the problem of frequent blackouts
and dimouts in Los Angeles. "We lit our sets with cigarette butts,"
Robert Mitchum once joked.

Writers vote 'greatest' movie
From: Agence France-Presse From correspondents in Los Angeles

THE Writers Guild of America has named "Casablanca" as No. 1 on its first
list of the "101 Greatest Screenplays."
The screenplay for the wartime tale of courage and cynicism starring
Humphrey Bogart was written by Howard Koch and brothers Julius and Philip

It was followed on the list by the screenplay for "The Godfather," written
by Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola; "Chinatown," written by Robert
Towne; "Citizen Kane," by Herman Mankiewicz and Orson Welles; and "All About
Eve" by Joseph Mankiewicz.
Rounding out the top 10 were "Annie Hall," by Woody Allen and Marshall
Brickman; "Sunset Boulevard" by the writing team of Charles Brackett and
Billy Wilder and D.M. Marshman Jr.; Paddy Chayefsky's "Network"; Wilder and
I.A.L. Diamond's "Some Like It Hot"; and Coppola and Puzo's "The Godfather

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Michelle Williams, the US actress who shot to fame
with her Oscar nomination this year for her role in "Brokeback
Mountain," is to star in a new Woody Allen'>Woody Allen movie set in Paris.
Industry publication The Hollywood Reporter said Wednesday that the
25-year-old who played the cuckolded wife of her real-life partner
Heath Ledger in Ang Lee's gay cowboy love story, had already signed on
for the new film.
But, in typical Woody Allen'>Woody Allen style, the movie's plot is being kept under
tight wraps, although the Reporter said it would most likely focus on
young Americans in the City of Light.
Production on the new movie is slated to begin in the middle of this
year, the industry magazine said.
Williams was nominated for a best supporting actress Oscar for her role
as the tragic Alma Del Mar in the movie that won three Oscars on March
5, but lost out on the acting nominations for Williams, Ledger and
Jake Gyllenhaal.
Allen 70, who has made 38 films since 1966 had a success last year with
the British-set comedy of manners "Match Point" starring Scarlett
Johansson.

I believe her first major role was Irreconcilable Differences (1984), a
very enjoyable under-rated film. Perhaps the reason it's only

Back to Basic, icepick and all
By Dan Glaister
April 1, 2006
We've seen a lot of Sharon Stone'>Sharon Stone of late. The 48-year-old actor popped up at
the Oscars, her backcombed hair winning her all the wrong sort of attention.
A few days later she was in Israel, offering to "kiss just about anyone" to
help bring peace to the Middle East. This week she's on screen in her latest
film, Basic Instinct 2.
Wearing seemingly nothing but a white fur coat and leather boots, Stone
talked before the film's world premiere about sex and sexiness and
sexuality.
"I think it's so different in Europe, where you have only to walk down the
street and remember you're a woman," she said at a press conference. "In the
US we tend to erase women after they're 40, and it's a period when women
become their most interesting. They are sexual in a different and alluring
way.
"This film expresses that sexual allure in an unabashed and provocative way,
in a way that is gritty and dangerous."
There was more nudity in Basic Instinct 2, she said, and it was kinkier.
Basic Instinct was one of the iconic films of the 1990s, and the sequel sees
Stone's character, Catherine Tramell, take her nefarious ways to London. In
the opening scene she is having sex in a sports car with former footballer
Stan Collymore. Posters suggest there may be a reprise of the famous moment
from Basic Instinct - the shot of Stone uncrossing her legs to reveal an
absence of underwear. That made the first film, prompting Stone to exclaim
that the audience could "see all the way to Nebraska".
Which Sharon Stone'>Sharon Stone was talking at her press conference is open to question:
the sex-bomb star, the activist, the mother, possibly all three. The
contradiction between her personas is one that she, and those around her,
have noted. As her mother observed: "Sharon has been posing since the day
she arrived. She came out posing." What everyone agrees on is that Stone is
fiercely ambitious and very bright: the daughter of an Avon lady and a
factory worker, she has an IQ of 153. Growing up in rural Pennsylvania,
Stone soon realised that even the plainest Jane could reinvent herself. "I
wanted to fit in," she told an interviewer in 1994. "So I got fashion
magazines and I gained some weight and, you know, bought some tight jeans
and some high heels and dyed my hair and got contact lenses and went to
college." Shortly after that she was crowned Miss Crawford County. Following
a stint studying fine art and creative writing and working at McDonald's,
she secured a modelling contract and made her way to New York.
Stone's break in films came in 1980, when Woody Allen cast her as "pretty
girl on train" in Stardust Memories. From there she became what Basic
Instinct screenwriter Joe Eszterhas called a "B-movie starlet". Her first
major role came with Arnold Schwarzenegger in Total Recall, a role she
secured after posing for Playboy. The 17th actress to audition for Basic
Instinct, she was perfect for the part. "Sharon is evil," Eszterhas
remembers director Paul Verhoeven telling him.
Her chance to put Nebraska behind her came with Martin Scorsese's Casino.
The resulting Golden Globe and Oscar nomination should have been the start
of a glittering career, but instead it was followed by a series of poor
parts in poor films, from Sphere to Catwoman.
Her private life was equally uneven: "If I'd had one more thing go wrong I'd
have been a country and western song." She endured two brief marriages,
including one to newspaper editor Phil Bronstein.
Childless, she has adopted two children, declaring recently: "Adoption is
God's other big birth canal." She has been a resolute campaigner for AIDS
sufferers, chairing the American Foundation for AIDS Research for 12 years.
She has also campaigned against poverty, stealing the show at the recent
world economic forum in Davos, Switzerland, when she called for people to
give money to buy mosquito nets for African children.
Now she has returned to the vehicle that brought her fame. Stone,
reportedly, had a controlling hand in Basic Instinct 2, and secured a deal
that would see her paid $13.6 million even had it not been made. Despite
declaring eight years ago that "sexpots age fast in Hollywood", she has
again embraced the role of icepick-wielding uber-vamp. As she once said: "If
you have a vagina and an attitude, that's a deadly combination in this
business."
Basic Instinct 2 is in cinemas now.

TG Magazin, Italy's leading media publication published the following
article:
http://www.tgcom.mediaset.it/tgmagazine/articoli/articolo299995.shtml.
This is an exact translation of the original Italian article, named
Relazioni voi e i Famosi (Relationships with The Famous).
RELATIONSHIPS: YOU AND THE FAMOUS
Your connection to the stars
How much do you have in common with Paris Hilton, Brad Pitt and Demi
Moore? If you always dreamt of being involved with an international
celebrity, it's time you found out what your chances are of making
them fall in love with you or having a relationship with them. All you
have to do is enter a few personal details - such as your birth date
- and send them off with a click of your mouse. Within minutes, your
questions will be answered and you will find out whether your dreams
can become reality.
Top Synergy (www.topsynergy.com) is one of America's authoritative
sites dealing with "relationships" or interpersonal relations. It
will provide you with useful tips and analyses as to how to improve
your relationships with your colleagues and life partners. The
segment on "You & the famous" contains a very long alphabetized
list of stars:
>From Al Pacino to Woody Allen and anywhere from Britney Spears, David
Beckham, George W. Bush, Nicole Kidman, Tony Blair and Shakira in
between. The list includes celebrities from all walks of life: music,
film, politics and sports. Almost all of them are there - or at
least the most famous among them: those we would all like to share a
personal relationship with, at least once in a lifetime.
To test the extent of your compatibility with any of the celebrities,
all you have to do is click on them in order to read about the most
hidden aspects of the VIP in question. Once you enter your personal
details, the results of your compatibility test with the chosen
celebrity will be e-mailed to you.
The analyzed sections are divided between emotional relationships and
work-related ties: long-term relationships, romance, friendship, sexual
attraction and a long list of relationships in which the assumption is
that you are the boss, the consultant, the employer or the spiritual
guide of the VIP you have selected.
In any case, you will be told to what extent the intensity of the
cosmic energies support the different types of relationships and to
what degree of passion, commitment and intimacy the relationship will
be able to function or not.
Want an example?
About Paris Hilton we are told that she needs love and affection and
that in relationships, she develops a very childish and dependent
behavior toward her partner. She experiences a great deal of
difficulty with social relationships, but her basic character is warm,
healthful and full of understanding toward others. Nonetheless, she
has a very unconventional and open attitude toward sex, romance and
love. The relationship that suits her best is one that is intellectual
and spiritual with a partner that allows her ample space and does not
show a tendency toward jealousy and possessiveness.
The site also provides each and every celebrity's astral profile,
which is very useful for pinpointing compatibility or the lack thereof.
The results of your chances and potential compatibility with the
celebrity you have selected from the point of view of mutual passion,
intimacy, commitment and synergy are based on mathematic and astral
calculations.
Want to know something about David Beckham? When it comes to romantic
relationships, he prefers intelligent women with a well-honed sense of
humor to women with merely outward beauty. He loves women who make
demands and look for answers and in order to be fulfilled in a
relationship, he needs to share ideas, places and opinions and always
learn something new with his partner.
And if Madonna has crossed your minds, you should know that she always
loves to be the center of attention and cannot tolerate suffocating
relationships; however, all things told, she is hopelessly romantic and
an idealist.
I like this kind of stuff (and *love* the Oscars), hope it's okay to post
here seeing as it's not really gossip.

Academy Awards 2006 trivia
PICS: Brokeback Mountain leads an open race for the Oscars
Dame Judi Dench'>Judi Dench is nominated for Mrs Henderson Presents
Steven Spielberg is one of the most successful Oscars producers
The Academy Awards will be handed out in Hollywood on 5 March.
Now in its 78th year, the ceremony has long fascinated movie fans
with its mix of glamour, suspense and surprise.
Here are some of snippets of trivia about this year's event:
Brokeback Mountain leads the nominations with eight. It is the most
open Oscars race since 2000, the last time a film topped the list with
eight nominations (American Beauty). The leading films in subsequent
years have received between 11-13 nominations each.
It is a good year for Oscars newcomers - 14 of the 20 acting nominees
have not been nominated before, the highest number for nine years.
The remaining six have 13 previous nominations and four awards
between them.
It is a good year for low-budget films - only one of the best picture
nominees had a budget over $15m (£8.6m), according to the Internet
Movie Database. Munich is the most expensive, with a reported $75m
(£43m) budget.
Among the best picture nominees, Crash led the US box office takings
at the time of the nominations with $55m (£32m), followed by Brokeback
Mountain's $42m (£24m).
For the first time in 25 years, all five nominees for best picture have also
been nominated for best director - only the fourth time in Oscars history
that the shortlists have been the same.
At 71, Dame Judi Dench'>Judi Dench is the oldest best actress nominee since 80-year-old
Jessica Tandy won for Driving Miss Daisy in 1990. Dame Judi is nominated
for her role in Mrs Henderson Presents.
Keira Knightley, 20, who is shortlisted for Pride and Prejudice, would be the
youngest best actress winner if she won. The current record is held by
Marlee Matlin, who won for Children of a Lesser God in 1987, aged 21.
If Heath Ledger wins best actor for Brokeback Mountain, the 26-year-old
would be the youngest winner of the award. Adrien Brody, who was 29
when he won for The Pianist in 2003, currently holds the record.
Ledger's girlfriend Michelle Williams is nominated for best supporting actress.
The pair met while filming Brokeback Mountain and had a daughter in October.
George Clooney is the first person to be nominated for acting in and directing
different films in the same year. He is up for best supporting actor for his
role in Syriana, plus best director and best original screenplay for Good Night,
and Good Luck.
Clooney is only the fifth person to be nominated for acting, directing and
writing in the same year - following Orson Welles (1942), Woody Allen (1978),
Warren Beatty (1979 and 1982) and Roberto Benigni (1999).
With Munich, Steven Spielberg has produced a total of five films with best
picture nominations - one behind record-holder Stanley Kramer and tied
with Francis Ford Coppola. He has also been nominated for best director
six times.
Woody Allen has received his 21st career nomination for best original
screenplay for Match Point. He has received more screenplay nominations
than any other writer in Oscars history with 14. He has also been nominated
for best director six times and best actor once, winning a total of three times.
Composer John Williams has two nominations for best original score for
writing music for Munich and Memoirs of a Geisha. It takes his career
nominations tally to 40 - one behind best score record-holder Alfred
Newman. Williams has won five times.

Right, and that goes for your statement as well.
I'm sure you find the above people funny. That hardly means that everybody
does.
And I didn't know that Richard Pryor, Bob Newhart, Bill Cosby (when
younger), John Belushi, Chris Rock, Johnny Carson, Lucille Ball, Ellen
DeGeneres, Christopher Guest, Sam Kinison, Mike Myers, Dudley Moore, and
Leslie Nielsen were Jewish.
A person is either funny or they aren't. Denis Leary is not funny.
Jerry Seinfeld is funny. Larry David is funny. Woody Allen is funny.
Lenny Bruce was funny. Robin Williams isn't funny. Dave Chapelle isn't
funny. Martin Lawrence isn't funny.
Women aren't funny, either. Just because people say someone is funny
doesn't mean they know funny. They just laugh without thinking why they
are laughing. That's wrong.
Take your subjectivity shit and jam it up your ass. Subjectivity is a
cop out. Something is good or bad, funny or unfunny.
