Interviewing Tom Cruise can be risky business

Tom Cruise has been sitting down with a lot of reporters lately - but
one recent chat didn't go so well. The "Mission Impossible" star
walked out of an interview with Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet S=F6ndag
after the conversation turned to his ex-wife, Nicole Kidman.
The conversation was all smiles until reporter Bj=F6rn Benkow insisted
that experts say that dyslexia cannot be cured by Scientology as Cruise
has claimed. There was an awkward pause, then Cruise burst into
laughter. "I'm going to, in any case, admit that you have the
courage of a madman," according to our translator. "This is
something no journalist has dared say to me face-to-face. . . .
Scientology is a religion without divinity. Its teaching is a spiritual
liberation from life's problems that can only be reached through
advice, courses and deep studies. Your cynical media colleagues cast
doubt over all the good that we do by spreading a bunch of hocus pocus
about us."
Then the reporter mentioned Kidman and the two children that she and
Cruise adopted. "Now you've gone over the line," Cruise replied.
Then, according to Benkow, one of Cruise's two bodyguards put his
hand on the reporter's shoulder, and Cruise said: "Now,
unfortunately, I have to end this, Mr. . . . ?"
"Benkow," the reporter replied.
"Whatever," Cruise replied. "I have to move on."
God wants Blige to wear bling
Mary J. Blige says she has found religion, but she makes no apologies
for her earthly materialism. In fact, she says God has willed her to
wear bling.
"My God is a God who wants me to have things," the singer tells
May's Blender magazine. "He wants me to bling. He wants me to be
the hottest thing on the block. I don't know what kind of God the
rest of y'all are serving, but the God I serve says, 'Mary, you
need to be the hottest thing this year, and I'm gonna make sure
you're doing that'."
Blige also is not modest when it comes to her place in history. "I do
consider myself part of black history," she told the mag. "Since
1991, I'm still doing this and I'm successful. And I haven't hurt
anyone in the process."

The media have been blamed for many things lately, but now Kevin
Federline is blaming the them for his decision to have a rap career.
"I don't have a choice. It's not like I can go and do
construction, start building houses in Malibu," K-Fed told Spin
magazine. "They [The media] are forcing me to do this, and I am glad
they are. I am more than happy to do it." . . . Christina Milian is
addressing her breakup with Nick Cannon. "His young gigolo-like ways

New movies already seen as bombs

You won't find reviews for either of this weekend's major movie releases.
Sony Pictures refused to screen its Tommy Lee Jones comedy Man of the House
for critics. Alliance Atlantis wouldn't preview its new Christina Ricci
werewolf flick Cursed either.
Sony is following orders from Revolution Pictures which created Man of the
House and Alliance Atlantis is heeding directives from Miramax's Dimension
Pictures.
Revolution even screened its road trip comedy Are We There Yet?
So, hard as it is to comprehend, the company must consider Man of the House
far inferior.
Man of the House had a production budget in excess of $40 million US plus a
$25 million marketing budget and is being released on 2,300 screens across
North America.
It stars Jones, Cedric the Entertainer and Anne Archer as well as hotties
Christina Milian, Kelli Garner, Vanessa Ferlito, Monica Keena and Paula
Garces as cheerleaders under the protection of Tommy Lee Jones.
Dimension's Cursed has been a troubled project for almost two years.
It's been rewritten, reshot and re-edited so many times that director Wes
Craven and writer Kevin Williamson are distancing themselves from it.
It started out to be an R-rated horror comedy in the vein of the Scream
movies Craven and Williamson collaborated on. It's now a PG-13 flick.
Cursed cost Dimension $38 million plus a $25 million marketing campaign. It
will be released on 3,000 screens.
When a studio refuses to screen a film for critics, it essentially reviews
the film itself, admitting it's a dog that needs one clear day before
reviews and word-of-mouth start chipping away at audiences.
Cursed has the better chance of making some pocket change this weekend,
given that White Noise, Hide & Seek and Boogeyman have all made upwards of
$50 million.
Horror movies are popular and Cursed has slick production and the Scream
cache.
All Man of the House has going for it is Jones and without a black suit and
Will Smith, he has limited box-office clout.
Smith's Hitch and Keanu Reeves' Constantine will rule the box-office again.

No Berry for X-Men 3
Academy Award winner Halle Berry will not be back for a third X-Men movie,
Handbag.com reports.
Apparently, Berry pulled out of the project after she found out her
character Storm had very little to do in the third instalment, which will be
wrapped up as part of a trilogy.
Producers are said to be looking to singer and actress Christina Milian as a
possible replacement.

For a guy who picked up three Grammys, Usher was looking less than
elated after Sunday night's music awards.
Backstage spies say the R&B star seemed vexed that his CD
"Confessions," which earned him eight nominations, didn't do better.
"Usher thought 'Confessions' was going to sweep the way that Michael
Jackson's 'Thriller' did," a mole tells us. "After the show, he
wouldn't let anyone come into his dressing room. He wouldn't do any
interviews or pose for an official Grammy picture."
Godfather of Soul James Brown did offer some consolation - telling one
and all that Usher was his "Godson. I'm passing the torch!"
The Godson also had a beautiful shoulder to cry on - that of Eishia
Brightwell, the model we told you he was seeing back in July. Having
just spent a vacation together, the pair couldn't keep their hands off
each other. "Eishia seemed to be Usher's way of telling [sometime gal
pal] Naomi Campbell he'd moved on," says one observer.
The singer seemed to have banished his blues by the time he reached his
victory party. When he wasn't manning the turntables with Quentin
Tarantino, he was being fawned upon by former Attorney General Janet
Reno.
The bash, sponsored by Entertainment Weekly, also saw some dirty
dancing by new couple Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi.
"Portia kept rubbing her finger down Ellen's chest," says a witness.
"And they were really grinding."
Also getting their groove on were Christina Milian and boyfriend Nick
Cannon, Eric Benet (getting hit on by Blu Cantrell), Serena Williams,
Wesley Snipes and Nelly, among others.
Elsewhere, Beyonc=E9 and Jay-Z were said to have had a little tiff as
they pulled into Boost Mobile's post-Grammy party for Kanye West.
Though his rep denies any friction, a spy says Beyonc=E9 refused to get
out of the car for about 15 minutes, and stayed not much longer at the
bash, leaving her boyfriend alone to give a toast to West.
Prince didn't deign to pick up his Grammy, even though he's in L.A.,
where he's been holding private jam sessions with other musicians at
his pad.
More than a few Grammy nominees were rattled by the no-booze policy at
the awards. Bono compensated later at a small Hollywood Hills bash
thrown by Interscope honcho Jimmy Iovine. U2 bandmate The Edge
understandably skipped the revelry - still troubled by his daughter's
illness, which threatened to scupper the group's world tour.
The annual hot-ticket party of BMG Music boss Clive Davis became a
little too hot for fire marshals. Good thing Robin Williams was there
to give the ordinance-keeper plenty of hugs. Jamie Foxx stole the show
by winging a version of Ray Charles' "I Got a Woman" in which he dreamt
about m=E9nage =E0 trois with Janet Jackson and Mary J. Blige.
