Will Eva Green'>Eva Green escape the 'Bond curse'?
By JIM SLOTEK -- Toronto Sun
A little bit Barbara Bach (The Spy Who Loved Me) and a little bit Carole
Bouquet (For Your Eyes Only), French actress Eva Green'>Eva Green definitely has the
decolletage to be a Bond girl.
But according to one school of thought, the relative unknown -- who was
announced last week to play original Bond girl Vesper Lynd opposite newly
crowned James Bond Daniel Craig in Casino Royale (which opens Nov. 17) -- is
now doomed to stay a relative unknown.
Green's previous major exposure has been as Orlando Bloom's love interest in
the big-budget Crusades bomb Kingdom Of Heaven. So careerwise, she is a
blank slate.
But as blank as Lois Chiles, who played Holly Goodhead in Moonraker? Or Lana
Wood who played Plenty O'Toole in Diamonds Are Forever?
Whether there's a career-killing "Bond curse" or not (and there are enough
post-Bond success stories to at least poke holes in the theory), the
latter-day Bond era of big-name leading ladies appears to be over.
The part of Vesper, Bond's tragic one true love according to the Ian Fleming
books, was reportedly turned down by the likes of Angelina Jolie, Charlize
Theron, Scarlett Johansson, Thandie Newton and Canadian girl Rachel McAdams.
Is it the bimbo factor? If so, it's an unfair rap if you consider Bond girls
pre- and post- what I consider the null-point of Bond and his Girls -- The
Living Daylights.
TLD, you may recall, was the film that introduced Timothy Dalton as a
humourless Bond. Released at the height of the AIDS scare, it was the first
film in which Bond became a one-woman man (girl next door Maryam D'Abo as
the cello-playing Kara Milovy), and the first in which it's suggested he
doesn't sleep with his leading lady or anybody else.
Listen, you don't want a guy with a licence to kill getting cranky.
James and Kara ride a Ferris wheel. They hug and hold hands. They might as
well have cast Timothy Hutton.
Before? Well, there was a bit of Austin Powers in Bond lines like, "There's
something I want you to get off your chest" (Diamonds Are Forever). And
perhaps a touch of misogyny in how quickly he moves on after a bedmate is
poisoned by his side (You Only Live Twice). But it was the times, and the
role of Bond girl was that of sex kitten.
After? As often as not, Bond girls kicked more butt (Grace Slick, Famke
Janssen, Michelle Yeoh), and toyed with Bond as much as he used to toy with
the likes of Tiffany Case. So maybe Angelina et al are just paying heed to
Halle Berry's inauspicious post-Bond career (Catwoman? Gothika?).
You don't want your last words, careerwise, to be: "Oh, James!"

The odd couple are longtime friends and they're now paying tribute to their

members of spoof AUSTIN POWERS group MING TEA.

Liz Hurley Refused Marilyn Monroe Role
November 14, 2005, 7:06:05
HURLEY TURNED DOWN MONROE:
British actress ELIZABETH HURLEY turned down an offer to play screen goddess
MARILYN MONROE because she didn't want to dye her hair blonde.
The AUSTIN POWERS beauty, who dated HUGH GRANT for 13 years, is so proud of
her brunette locks, she refused to peroxide them to land the prestigious
part.
The 40-year-old says, "I was offered the NORMA JEANE role years ago but our
looks are so different and I really don't like the idea of going that much
lighter."
Funnyman MIKE MYERS is reportedly in negotiations to cast ROD STEWART
for a role in his fourth AUSTIN POWERS movie - as the spoof spy's
brother.
After landing MICHAEL CAINE as Powers' father in THE SPY WHO SHAGGED
ME, Myers wants British rocker Stewart to join him in his next outing
as the colourful spy, according to movie website Moviehole.net.
DEMI MOORE and JENNIFER LOPEZ are reportedly frontrunners to play
Powers' latest love interest in the new film. (KL/WNWCMVH/JB)

Austin Powers'>Austin Powers Going Back in Time?
The brains behind the Austin Powers'>Austin Powers movie franchise are racing to shoot a
fourth film to coincide with the 2006 release of the new James Bond movie
Casino Royale. The planned new project would focus on the young Powers and
only regular Seth Green would possibly return for the film - to play the
younger version of his movie dad Dr. Evil. Producers are keen to work
quickly on the film so it will be ready for release on the back of the new
007 movie because Austin Powers'>Austin Powers is a spoof version of James Bond. Austin
Powers regular Michael York, who will not be part of the new film, tells
website Darkhorizons.com, "I have heard that they want to do a new film to
coincide with the release of the next James Bond movie. Since 007 is going
to be younger in that movie, they're considering doing a Young Austin movie.
I don't know if Mike Myers would even be involved. It would probably be Seth
Green playing Dr. Evil Junior."

Michael Caine one tough butler
Michael Caine creates a tough, ex-military Alfred the butler for Batman
Begins
By STEVE TILLEY -- Edmonton Sun
BEVERLY HILLS, California - If the Batman Begins filmmakers are looking for
someone to play the caped crusader's sidekick in the inevitable sequel, they
might be able to combine two roles into one: Just give Michael Caine's
butler character a superhero costume and call it a day.
In Batman Begins, opening Wednesday, Caine plays Bruce Wayne's longtime
manservant Alfred, not so much as a fawning English butler as a
tough-as-nails army sergeant.
Which, it turns out, was Caine's inspiration for the role.
"I wanted a very unusual, very tough butler for Batman," said the
72-year-old Caine, whose 100-plus-films resume boasts everything from
Oscar-winning performances in The Cider House Rules and Hannah and her
Sisters to Austin Powers in Goldmember and this month's Bewitched.
"I didn't want the usual obsequious, bowing, dinner-is-served type of
person. I wanted someone extremely tough," explained Caine.
"So I did a back story on myself. He was an SAS sergeant, which is a very
tough British army unit, got wounded, didn't want to leave the army, became
in charge of the sergeant's mess in the canteen and therefore he knew how to
serve drinks and prepare stuff, which made him attractive to Bruce Wayne's
father. He wanted a very tough butler."
Um, OK. Talk about going above and beyond the call of duty when preparing
for a role.
"I use the voice of the first sergeant I ever had in the army," said Caine.
"Even though I was 18 at the time, which is a long time ago, it stays with
you. So that's his voice in the picture."
Caine is part of an ensemble supporting cast of surprisingly heavy talent
for a superhero flick, joining the likes of Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Tom
Wilkinson and Ken Watanabe - each one, along with Caine, either an Oscar
winner or nominee - under the guidance of Memento director Christopher
Nolan.
"Christopher turned up at my house on a Sunday morning with the and
said he was doing Batman," recalled Caine. "Which I thought was
extraordinary, because I know what Christopher had done with Insomnia and
Memento.
"And then he made me read it, because he wouldn't leave the . So I
gave him lunch and read the ."
Caine was hooked by Nolan's very human approach to the saga of the Dark
Knight, and by the delicate balance in the master-servant relationship
between Bruce Wayne and Alfred, who is more like a family member than an
employee.
"My mother was a cook in these big houses in the country during the (Second
World) War, when I was evacuated, so I knew all about the butler and
everything," said Caine. "And I've seen the line which masters who were
very, very kind to their staff came down to."
And even if he doesn't get cast as a costumed crimefighter in the next
movie, Caine can say with complete honesty that he got to play the title
role in Batman Begins.
Sort of.
"In the British army, officers have a private who cleans their boots and
their brasses, and he in actual fact is called a batman," he said. "So I'm
Batman's batman."

Indian travel 'hard': Hurley
06/06/2005 - 19:18:39
Austin Powers beauty Elizabeth Hurley becomes violently ill whenever she
visits husband-to-be Arun Nayar's native India - sparking fears for their
forthcoming wedding in Mumbai.
The model-turned-actress is so allergic to the water and food in the exotic
country, she has to cover her mouth whenever she takes a shower, and she
always picks up "a horrific bacterial" disease every time she visits.
She complains: "Annoyingly, I get sick every time I go - a horrific
bacterial thing where you end up on a drip for five days.
"I have a dry flannel right across my mouth like a gag when I take a shower.
When I take my make-up off at night I don't let water touch my lips.
"I feel like the looniest of Californians. My ambition is to go to India and
