They can't do it, because he's an adult and you can't make a person get
mental help until they are a threat to others or to themselves.

Well, if he's a pedophile, it's just an excuse. He has created a world that
would induce children to come around. If he's not a pedophile, he's
obviously not even trying to get better. However, it seems to be more the
rule than the exception, that child stars have lots of problems. Although,
Jody Foster, Melissa Gilbert, Donnie Osmond, Shirley Temple, Ron Howard,
Leonardo DiCaprio, Alyssa Milano, Fred Savage, Rick Schroder seem reasonably
well-balanced. Drew Barrymore has had problems, but she seems to be
straightening up. Same with Danny Bonaduce. Even the Olsen Twins seem
fine.
I found an article I thought was pretty good or rather it is a rant by
someone, but here it is:

Child Stars and you.
This entry was posted in the following categories: Rants
They say it's not easy being a child star like Michael Jackson. You're
completely deprived of a normal childhood. You don't have any real friends
your own age. You have to work all the time on top of going to school. You
have strange interactions with adults over sums of money that most peple
never see in their whole lives. You lose all contact with the real world.
Ain't that a shame?
I'm glad I didn't suffer through a childhood of fame and fortune. No sir, I
had what I'd consider a reasonably normal childhood. We were pretty typical
of families in our neighborhood. A modest home in suburbia. An older sister
and a younger brother. A dog, a cat, and a pair of fish. Mom was a
home-maker, always in an apron, always with an apple pie in the oven. Dad
was middle management down at the plant, and coached little league baseball
in the summer.
Me, I was pretty average. Lots of friends around the neighborhood. We had
lemonade stands together in the summer, and shoveled snow for the old folks
in the winter. It snowed every Christmas Eve, and it was sunny and warm by
March.
In High School, I was the captain of the football team, and I dated the head
cheerleader. The Beach Boys played at our prom. I saved up all my paper
route money to buy a corvette, but when I finally got enough saved, my dad
bought it for me, and told me to save my money for college.
It was a good way to grow up. Unfortunately, that wasn't my life.
No, as some of you already have guessed, I grew up very differently. Like
Michael Jackson, I too was a child star. I grew up to become a 6'3" white
mid-western straight male, but you probably know me better as T.V.'s Dorothy
"Tootie" Ramsey from the Facts of Life. That's right, my real name is Kim
Fields. That's me in front on the right.
In addition to the considerable stress of growing up as an African American
woman in 1970s America, I was a textbook child star. I too was deprived of
any sort of normalcy, as I struggled to be a professional and handle myself
with dignity through whatever came my way, before I was even in my teens. I
learned my lines, I showed up on time to tapings, and I stayed on top of my
schoolwork. And I even found time to record a song for you Michael.
Even though I wasn't really out in the "real world" with kids my own age, I
did still manage to have some close friends. I was very close with Gary
Coleman, Todd Bridges and Dana Plato from Diff'rent Strokes. We had a lot of
laughs. And I made friends with some other kids when they made guest
appearances on the show, like your sister Janet.
Yes, I was a child star, with all the trauma that carries with it. But I
came through it ok. And even though most of my childhood friends went on to
achieve fame through crime and / or porn, I kept myself n the straight and
narrow. I even have what some would consider a very successful acting career
as an adult.
Actually, I guess that's not true either. I was never TV's Tooty. I wasn't a
child star. Not even close. I wasn't the poster-boy for middle-class
american youth either. And contrary to what you may have been told, I'm not
even a professional wrestler. I'm just a guy.
I'm a straight, male, and white. I come from hearty mid-western stock, and
grew up in a pretty typical lower-middle class way. I'm the oldest of two
boys. I was picked on a lot as a child, and was kind of socially awkward
(not like I am now...). I tried to shut out the world and live inside my
fantasy world of legos, matchbox cars, and TV sitcoms, but somehow, someway,
some valuable life lessons managed to bubble up inside my head and teach me
a few things about the way things are supposed to be. Perhaps Blair, Mrs
Garrett, and yes, even the fabled Tooty actually managed to pound a thing or
two into my head while I was busy building a fort out of the dining room
table and a sleeping bag.
I managed to pick up the notion that some things in life are just wrong. For
example, shooting someone in the face with a shotgun, even when yer pretty
pissed off at them, is wrong. And when you're able to clearly identify
something as being wrong, you shouldn't do that thing. Not because you'll
get in trouble, or go to hell, or get yelled at by mom and dad (although
those things are possible). No. You don't do those things because they are
wrong.
Some things are easy to identify as being wrong. The above mentioned shotgun
to the face example is one. Robbing a bank is wrong. Keying a man's car is
wrong. And despite what you may have heard, running off with your best
friend's girl is wrong. There's no room for individual interpretation. These
things are just wrong.
Other things in life aren't that easy to classify. Do you give back the
money when the cashier down at the Piggly Wiggly gives you back a bit too
much change for your Oreos? Should you report it to your boss if you
accidentally swiped a ballpoint pen from the office? Do you really need to
drive exactly the speed limit, or is a little bit over ok sometimes? These
are questions that require some individual thought and interpretation, and
we each make our own choices.
But allow me to state for the record, right here and right now, that
molesting little kids, be they boys or girls or *shrug* other, is one of
those accross the board wrong things. There's no question about it. Wrong
wrong wrong wrong wrong! So you shouldn't do it. In fact, it's one of those
things that's so very very wrong that you should actively avoid activities
that might make people question if that's what you're doing. Like sleeping
in the same bed with little boys, wether you're molesting them or not, is
probably going to make people wonder a little bit.
Use some sense!
I know you're a big pop star and whatnot, and a lot of rules that apply to
people like me don't really apply to people like you. For example, I'm not
allowed to repeatedly grab my crotch in public or have simulated knife
fights with Lionel Richie look-alikes. But the rules of right and wrong
really do still apply to you.
Molesting little boys is wrong. Making people wonder if you might be
molesting little boys is seriously not smart. At worst, you are a child
molester, and should be punished in a really really unpleasant way. At best,
you're dumb enough to think you can do all this stuff that makes real people
wonder what the hell you're up to, and get away with it. And that would make
you altogether too dumb to be allowed around kids without police
supervision.
You've got money.... have someone build you a robotic kid or something.

The kids are not all right
By LIZ BRAUN -- Toronto Sun
"If there is anything I would tell anybody in this profession, it is never
believe your own press."
-- Former child star Leif Garrett, and he would know.
Child actors -- you've got to love them.
Or maybe not. Spoiled, cranky, ill-mannered and generally up way past their
bedtime, rugrat actors in Hollywood have a bad rep the world over. And for
good reason. There may be other 12-year-olds involved in substance abuse and
temper tantrums, but not many that see it as part of their job.
The list of misbehaving brats is a mile long, and includes Drew Barrymore
(yes, she grew out of it), Macaulay Culkin, Danny Bonaduce, Dana Plato, Lisa
Loring and Tatum O'Neal, among many others.
The list of child stars who grew up more or less intact is far shorter:
Jodie Foster, Sarah Polley, Kurt Russell and Ron Howard come to mind.
Shirley Temple survived, but became a politician.
Serial bride Elizabeth Taylor weathered her share of bad ink and bad
behaviour and is still standing.
There are plenty of child actors and adolescent thespians we all love to
hate of that Hilary Duff/Britney Spears/Amanda Bynes interchangeable ilk.
The mousketeer syndrome is a tough one to shake.
So what, exactly, does little Dakota Fanning have to look forward to? Who
might be the role models for someone her age?
Jackie Coogan was one of the earliest "child stars" and became famous for
his acting and for his larcenous parents. Coogan was born into a vaudeville
family and was a performer by age four. His "break" came when Charlie
Chaplin cast him in The Kid, and Coogan became a huge star. In the 1930s, he
asked for the money he'd earned as a child, but his mother and stepfather
did not fork over.
Coogan sued, eventually winning a fraction of the millions he had actually
earned. People were so freaked out by this that California passed the Child
Actors' Bill (aka the Coogan Act), which sets up a trust fund for any child
actor to protect earnings. Years later, Coogan turned up on TV as Uncle
Fester. That's just wrong.
Macaulay Culkin is probably the most famous child actor who ever lived,
thanks to Home Alone, a film many call just another one of John Hughes'
crimes against humanity. Now 24, Culkin is one of the seven children of Kit
Culkin and Patricia Brentrup, and his career was put on hold in the late
'90s when his parents decided to duke it out over custody of the children
and control of Macaulay's money.
The judge who eventually awarded custody to Culkin's mother had harsh words
for both parents. In 1998, a year after his parents had finished fighting,
Culkin married Rachel Miner, another actor, but they separated in 2000.
Since then, Culkin has made a lousy movie (Party Monster) and done well in
theatre in a London production of Madame Melville.
Keisha Castle Hughes, the young star of Whale Rider and an Academy Award
nominee for her very first movie role, has just turned 14. She was
discovered during Whale Rider casting at her New Zealand school. She is
usually described as smart and focused, and she is always articulate in
interviews. Hughes has a Maori mother and an Australian father. Geography
alone may preserve her, as New Zealand is soooo far away from Hollywood.
Haley Joel Osment is a well-regarded young actor who is now 16. He's been
acting since the age of four and has a full-on career, with an Oscar
nomination for The Sixth Sense.
Osment's dad is an actor and his mother is a teacher. He has said he'd like
to model his career after those of Kurt Russell or Jodie Foster, people who
began as children but who are still respected actors today. Osment intends
to go to Yale.

[I just googled a search using 'Dana Plato death' and here's the first article
I found]
Dana Plato's death ruled suicide
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Former child actress Dana Plato's drug-overdose death was
ruled a suicide Friday, not an accident as initially believed.
The 34-year-old former star of the NBC sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes" died May 8
while visiting her fiance's parents in Moore. Police initially said she died of
an accidental overdose of a painkiller and Valium.
But Dr. Larry E. Balding, deputy state medical examiner, said Friday that she
had fatal concentrations of the muscle relaxant Soma and a generic form of the
painkiller Lortab in her body. She also had the equivalent of seven tablets of
the muscle relaxant in her stomach.
Balding said the death was ruled a suicide because of the high level of drugs
and her history of suicidal tendencies. She did not leave a suicide note.
Ms. Plato had been prescribed both drugs -- according to her fiance, for back
injuries she suffered in a car accident.
Ms. Plato's life went into a tailspin after the sitcom's cancellation in 1984.
In 1991, she was arrested for robbing a Las Vegas video store and placed on
five years' probation. A year later, she was given another five years'
probation for forging preions for Valium.
"If I hadn't gotten caught, it could have been the worst thing that happened to
me because I could have died of a drug overdose," she said then.
The day before her death, Ms. Plato went on Howard Stern's radio show in New
York to deny a former roommate's claims that she was on drugs. Ms. Plato
insisted she had been sober for about 10 years but said she had taken
painkillers when her wisdom teeth were removed four months ago.

He's had roles on TV and in movies, and even joined his sister's
LA talent agency, where he signed up Dana Plato shortly before
*she* died of her overdose.
Someone's been believing those "famous Mormons" stories pushed
