Harvey out of hospital after car crush horror
19/07/2005 - 16:19:11
Former East 17 star Brian Harvey is out of hospital and on the road to
recovery, his girlfriend said today.
But the singer is still struggling to overcome the horrific injuries he
suffered when he was run over by his own car seven weeks ago.
Harvey has a metal crossbar sticking out of his pelvis and holding his
shattered bones together.
When that is removed at the end of August he will be confined to a
wheelchair and will need physiotherapy to help him walk again.
Harvey's girlfriend Emma B is caring for him at her home.
She told OK! magazine: "He can't walk because he broke his pelvis in seven
places.
"He has a metal crossbar that sticks out of his pelvis which he's got to
have on for 12 weeks. The ribs he broke are still quite sore but all the
other injuries have mainly healed.
"Doctors told him that 99 per cent of people with his injuries would have
died, so it's a miracle he came through."
Harvey suffered severe stomach, lung and leg injuries in the bizarre
accident which saw him crushed under the wheels of his own car.
The 30-year-old I'm A Celebrity star was reversing down a road close to his
home in east London when he fell out of the driver's side door.
Model Emma said she was sure it was an accident rather than a suicide
attempt.
Harvey has struggled with depression and took an overdose of pills when the
couple temporarily split during Emma's appearance on reality show The Farm.
She admitted being most worried about his emotional recovery.
"It does worry me. He's got a lot of support and he can get counselling,"
she said.
"It's really stressful as I am caring for him 24/7. think we're coping
pretty well. We sit and have a cry sometimes because it is upsetting."
But she added: "Right now I wouldn't say he was suffering with depression.
He feels lucky to be alive - he wants to live and be with me."

Spice Girls plan Greatest Hits album
06/06/2005 - 15:39:55
The Spice Girls are already planning to cash-in on their widely anticipated
Live 8 reunion - by releasing a Greatest Hits album.
The Spice Up Your Life stars - Melanie Chisholm, Geri Halliwell, Victoria
Beckham, Melanie Brown and Emma Bunton - are set to reform to play alongside
acts including Paul McCartney, Mariah
Carey and Elton John at the Hyde Park concert on July 2.
Despite reports earlier this week that the girl group had been axed from the
event, singer Brown has confirmed they are all keen to play and revealed
plans for a Greatest Hits release to coincide with the historic event.
Scary Spice says: "We'll get back together because we all want to. I know
everyone is up for it.
"There is going to be a Greatest Hits Album and we've got loads of new songs
that nobody has heard yet."
The girls are also reportedly planning to release a new single penned by
song- writer Richard Stannard, who was responsible for several of their
hits - including their debut chart-topper Wannabe.
A reunion would be the first time the full five-piece has performed since
1998.

Pop star critical after car crush
01/06/2005 - 07:05:57
Former East 17 star Brian Harvey remains in a critical condition in hospital
after falling under the wheels of his own car, police said today.
The troubled singer was crushed beneath his Mercedes convertible in what his
manager described as a "bizarre" accident as he drove to a recording
session.
Harvey, 30, who is alleged to have made two attempts on his own life,
suffered multiple fractures to his legs and pelvis in the early hours of
this morning.
He was said to be undergoing emergency surgery and receiving treatment in
the intensive care unit of Whipps Cross Hospital in east London.
Simon Harrison, the singer's manager, told the ITV News Channel the accident
happened as Harvey drove through Chingford, Essex.
He said: "He was on his way to a studio session and from what we know.he was
reversing down a road in his own car with the door open, hit a number of
parked vehicles and was actually thrown from his car.
"We presume at the moment he was actually crushed under his own car or
against another car. It's all a little bizarre but that's what we know has
happened."
Police said no-one else was in the vehicle and confirmed they were called to
attend by paramedics at 1.53am today.
Mr Harrison said: "There's been breaks to his legs, six breaks to his
pelvis, injuries to his ribs, his lungs and his abdomen.
"He's been in intensive care all day. There's been a number of operations
and I believe he's still in the operating theatre as we speak."
Asked if he knew if the accident may have been a suicide attempt, Mr
Harrison said: "I don't, but knowing Brian this certainly wouldn't be the
way he attempted a suicide, reversing down a road, you know, I just don't
see it, I think this is purely an accident."
He confirmed the former chart star had suffered a "quite heavy depression"
over the last six months, particularly since the death of his grandmother
Betty.
She died as Harvey entered the ITV show I'm A Celebrity. Get Me Out Of
Here!, an attempt to resurrect his career, prompting the singer to quit the
jungle on day two.
"Prior to this weekend he was in a very upbeat mood," said Mr Harrison.
"We'd spoken quite at length on Friday and Saturday about his career and
various things we have happening and he seemed in a very upbeat mood."
A Scotland Yard spokeswoman added: "The circumstances of the collision are
being investigated.
"At this early stage we believe the man may have fallen from the driver's
side of the Mercedes convertible while reversing from an access road into
the street."
A week ago Harvey was taken to hospital after a reported overdose of
sleeping tablets and alcohol - his second in a month.
The former boy band star has been diagnosed with clinical depression and
split from girlfriend Emma B, who appeared on Five reality show The Farm,
this month.
Harvey was temporarily thrown out of East 17 after he boasted of taking 12
Ecstasy tablets in one night, and saw his career nosedive when he later left
the band.
He was also attacked with a machete in a nightclub and declared himself
bankrupt.

Another Stone who's rolling in dosh
08:26am 1st April 2005
Teenage soul singer Joss Stone has made it into a rich list of Britain's
young music millionaires.
The 17-year-old from Devon has earned £5million since bursting on to the
music scene.
She is one of the highest new entries in the rich list compiled by The
Sunday Times.
Charlotte Church, Coldplay, Daniel Bedingfield, Will Young and the Beckhams
are also on the list.
To qualify as young music millionaires, entrants have to be aged 30 or
under.
At number one is Dhani Harrison, son of the late Beatle George Harrison, who
has inherited a £140 million fortune.
Second are the Beckhams - who qualify thanks to Victoria's former singing
career - with £75 million between them.
The couple were worth £65 million last year but have piled on another £10
million thanks to David's lucrative endorsements.
John Lennon's son Sean is the highest new entry at number three with a
personal wealth of £20 million.
Coldplay's Chris Martin and fellow band members Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman
and Will Champion share fourth place with Ronan Keating and former Spice
Girl Emma Bunton - each have a £10 million fortune.
Singers Craig David and Will Young follow with £9 million and £8 million
respectively.
Charlotte Church has £6 million, as does new entry Denise Van Outen, who has
made her money through TV work, music and property investments.
Joss Stone is one of the highest new entries, at number 14 with £5 million,
but The Sunday Times predicted the figure could rise "spectacularly" in the
next year thanks to booming record sales.
She is also set to sign a lucrative deal to become the new face of Gap.

SHE took the US by storm as a Spice Girl but breaking the Stateside

Just like Robbie Williams and fellow Spice Mel B, Em has found that

So much so, in fact, that despite relentlessly plugging her album, Free

Sources tell us: "Obviously Emma's disappointed at the chart placing -
especially as the media reviews were very positive. She's made two

Emma's promotional diary has included meet and greets, an interview in
respected magazine Blender, TV appearances and an appearance on 'shock

DAILY NEWS FEATURE WRITER
She's now the Spice of Broadway life.
Melanie Brown, best known as Scary in Britain's fab five pop group the Spice
Girls, is the new star of "Rent."
"If it weren't for the Spice Girls, I wouldn't be here right now, sitting here
on this stage," says Brown, aka Mel B.
At 28, she still radiates the explosive energy that helped sell more than 35
million albums, rake in $25 million (the estimated fortune of each group
member) and make "Girl Power" a global slogan during the late '90s.
"I wouldn't have traveled the world, I wouldn't have much money."
Band mates Melanie Chisholm and Emma Bunton (Sporty and Baby Spice,
respectively) are expected to visit New York in the next few weeks to check out
her performance as the H.I.V.-positive drug addict and erotic dancer Mimi,
based on the tragic heroine of Puccini's opera "La Bohème." However, the
reunion is not a resurrection of the group - not yet.
"We will probably do something together as a group, but not for a while," says
Brown, who tends to gesticulate as quickly as she speaks.
"I think they are going to release a [greatest-hits] album, and hopefully we
will all get together and write a song for it.
"We keep on talking about it, but everybody has branched off to do their own
thing." Brown's thing now is her role as a Broadway star in "Rent" - and that
has brought with it a hint of stage fright.
"Right now the singing bit is the one that I am not 100% about," says Brown,
who had to postpone her opening night several days due to a case of strained
pipes.
"There are certain notes and certain melodies that I'm not used to singing.
"I mean, I was in a group with five girls. If the note was too high, someone
else would sing it. I was very sheltered in that way.
"This is so much more of a challenge for me."
Brown took acting and dancing lessons as a child in Leeds, England. Before
answering an ad that would eventually lead to a career with the Spice Girls,
she unsuccessfully auditioned for productions of the roller-musical "Starlight
Express" and "Miss Saigon."
After her reign as a pop queen, she decided to focus on acting and taking care
of her daughter, Phoenix Chi, now 5, with Spice Girls backup dancer Jimmy
Gulzar.
But she vows that her six-month gig in "Rent" won't keep her away from the
music biz.
After a several-year break, Brown spent January writing and recording acoustic
songs in the kitchen of her L.A. home.
"I had been on a long holiday in Mexico, and you know how you get all relaxed
and in that mode?" she asks.
"Well, I came home and wrote like 15 songs in my kitchen, just jamming out on
the guitar, and recorded them on my friend's computer in 10 days.
"I don't have a deal, not signed to anyone. This is just for me."
She describes the set of songs as "less angry" than those she wrote on "Hot,"
the solo album she released in Europe during her messy divorce from Gulzar.
She says she wants to test her music at some small clubs while she's doing
"Rent." "When you come from almost over-exposure, and you've been out there on
every magazine and TV advert, it's quite nice to pull the reins back and do
something independent and small," she says.
Among her Spice-mates, Chisholm and Bunton have each pursued solo careers.
Posh Spice Victoria Beckham has become the rumor-riddled wife of soccer
celebrity/superstar David Beckham. The golden couple is dealing with reports
that he has been unfaithful.
Geri (Ginger Spice) Halliwell bailed out in 1998, leaving the four remaining
members to follow up the group's hit albums "Spice" and "Spiceworld" with the
mildly received "Forever."
Like Brown, Halliwell recently moved to L.A. to act. Brown insists that the two
are not feuding.
"Of course they are going to pick on the two girls in the group who were the
loudest, saying they hate each other," she says of their friendship, which
included sprees of boob-flashing on various highways in England.
"That's what I would do if I were a journalist. But it's stupid; we don't." In
her 2002 autobiography, "Catch a Fire," Brown writes candidly about her wild
exploits - including X-rated behavior and concerns about being a mixed-race
child. Now she wonders how she'll react when her daughter enters the rebellious
years. "I'm sure by then I will be more cynical and rigid, like a nun," she
says with a grin. "I sneaked out the bedroom window when I was told to go to
bed at 8 and was out to 2 in the morning.
"But the thing is, I have done everything and more than she could possibly
think of, so hopefully I will be one step ahead.
"I'll have the windows nailed shut."

Emma confesses on Stern show
26/01/2005 - 18:29:43
Emma Bunton has admitted that fellow ex-Spice Girl Mel B gave her a vibrator
as a present.
The 29-year-old, currently in the US promoting her album Free Me, confessed
to US shock jock Howard Stern that Scary Spice bought her the vibrator and
then admitted that she uses it.
Emma also confessed to finding women "attractive" although she is not a
lesbian. The youngest of the Spice Girls also revealed she lost her
virginity when she was 16.
Howard Stern appeared more interested in finding out about Emma's sex life
than the recording of Free Me.
She told the DJ she thought he was attractive, but wouldn't sleep with him.
She also told him she's never had a threesome and doesn't want to either. At
times she appeared uncomfortable with his questions about sex and told him
off for being "rude."
Emma said she talks to Victoria Beckham a lot, but refused to answer Howard
Stern's questions about Posh Spice and husband David Beckham's relationship
and their reported marriage troubles.

As Baby Spice, Emma Bunton found her inner child.
There were pillow fights. "Girl Power" mantras. Late-night food runs
while dressed in pajamas.
"I was quite sensible, actually, the one who would go, 'Be careful,
someone is going to get hurt,'" remembers Bunton of her tenure in the
Spice Girls pop supergroup.
"They would get me to do naughty things, and I miss that."
But that was last century.
"I feel I have grown up," she says. "Now I've created an album on my
own. It's daunting. It's scary. But it's all mine."
Dropping both the "Baby" and her last name, the solo artist Emma has
just released "Free Me," a collection of mellow dance tracks that
groove to bossa-nova beats and strings.
Turning diary entries into lyrics, Bunton wrote the words for her songs
and spoke her mind as producers worked on her tracks. "I am very bossy
in the studio," she admits, with a laugh.
When "Free Me" was released in the U.K. last year, it was met with warm
reviews - and speculation that images on the album had been manipulated
to make the British blond appear thinner.
"That was really annoying, because I worked out hard" to look that way,
says Bunton, who prides herself on being "a curvy girl."
"I have always loved my food, and if I am going to do a photo shoot I
am going to work out really hard for three weeks beforehand and then go
right back to having my girlfriends around with a pizza and a bottle of
wine."
Though Bunton says that she has never had an eating disorder,
Spice-mate Geri Halliwell (aka Ginger) suffered from bulimia and fad
dieting after the media focused on her weight. Because of that, Bunton
takes seriously her position as a public figure and role model for
young girls.
"I have young cousins who say, 'I can't have a packet of crisps [Brit
for potato chips]' and I am like, wait a minute," she says. "That
scares me. It's out of hand how much pressure there is on women."
To keep her peace of mind, Bunton tries to live a holistic life. She
practices Reiki healing, which focuses on body energies, and her mother
performs reflexology on her. (Mom also put 100 roses in Bunton's
bedroom to celebrate her 29th birthday last week.)
These measures, says Bunton, in addition to "not worrying," have helped
her endometriosis. The disorder, diagnosed several years ago, affects
the uterus and other organs and can make it difficult to become
pregnant.
"All things will heal themselves," says Bunton, who hopes one day to
have children.
Until then, Bunton wants to go on many "dates and dinners," adding that
she and on-and-off boyfriend Jade Jones, a singer, are currently just
"best friends." She also aspires to be a dramatic actress, though she's
not yet sure if she wants to try TV, theater or film.
Bunton recently landed a three-minute cameo in the Indian film "Pal
Tham Gaya," an element of a BBC documentary airing next month in which
she switches places with a Bollywood star.
"I've got so many dreams, and I feel so lucky," she says. "I'm looking
forward to everything."

Beckhams host lavish christening for sons
23/12/2004 - 07:45:01
David and Victoria Beckham are hosting a glitzy christening today for sons
Romeo and Brooklyn.
A private chapel has been built especially for the occasion in the grounds
of the couple's Hertfordshire mansion.
Elton John and partner David Furnish, Liz Hurley and boyfriend Arun Nayar,
Greg and Lucy Rusedski and Beckham's former Manchester United team-mate Gary
Neville are all expected to attend the lavish evening ceremony.
The Beckhams are believed to have chosen Elton and his partner as godparents
to Brooklyn, five, and two-year-old Romeo.
Victoria's former Spice Girl bandmates - Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton,
Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm - have all been invited.
If they all turn up, it will be the first time the five have been under the
same roof since Victoria hosted a dinner party for them at Beckingham Palace
two years ago.
Other stars to receive invitations include Hollywood star Tom Cruise, Wayne
Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin, and Sven Goran Eriksson and Nancy Dell'Olio.
The rest of the guest list will be made up of close friends and family,
including the Beckhams' parents and siblings.
Victoria, who is expecting her third child in March, has planned the
ceremony down to the tiniest detail.
To get to the chapel, which has a white angel above the arched doorway,
guests will walk past fake ruins modelled on the crumbling Irish church
where the couple wed.
Although Brooklyn and Romeo will have a traditional Christian ceremony, the
chapel appears to have two Buddhist shrines at its entrance.
The couple have flirted with different religions and earlier this year
Victoria was spotted wearing a red Kabbalah bracelet.
After Brooklyn's birth, David remarked: "I definitely want Brooklyn to be
christened, but I don't know into what religion yet."

Cleavage is banned at Beckham bash
by NICOLE LAMPERT, Daily Mail
08:12am 22nd December 2004
A glittering array of stars is expected tomorrow night at the christening of
Brooklyn and Romeo Beckham.
But, it appears, their mother Victoria has no intention of letting anyone
else steal the show.
She has advised all the female guests not to wear anything revealing. In
particular she has banned cleavages, saying she wants the occasion to be
marked by 'modest attire'.
One guest told the Mail that 30-year-old Victoria, who is expecting her
third child in March, was feeling a little insecure about her figure at the
moment.
"The last thing she would want is some of her more glamorous friends
appearing dolled up to the nines. It is her big event and she wants to be
the star of the show. She doesn't wanted to be made to feel uncomfortably
drab compared to people like Elizabeth Hurley or even Wayne Rooney's
girlfriend Coleen.
"This is a huge thing for Victoria and David. She keeps on saying that it is
to show the world that 'Brand Beckham' is back on track and she thinks it
will be her finest hour."
Among the guests expected at the christening, in a private chapel in the
grounds of the couple's Hertfordshire home, are Sir Elton John and David
Furnish, Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar, Wayne Rooney and Coleen
McLoughlin, Sven Goran Eriksson and Nancy Dell'Olio, pop svengali Simon
Fuller, and Beckham's former Manchester United team-mates Phil and Gary
Neville.
Tom Cruise has also been invited, as have Victoria's former Spice Girl
colleagues Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Melanie Brown.
Victoria is said to be furious that Beckham has a game with Real Madrid
tonight and, instead of flying back to England immediately after the game,
is not planning to leave Spain until tomorrow morning.
"She is terrified that it could start snowing or be really foggy and that he
won't make it to the christening," said one.
"She wanted him to refuse to play the game, but he is having none of that."

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Emma Bunton was once known as Baby Spice; that is, when
she was one-fifth of multi-million selling girl group the Spice Girls. These
days, she is known as Emma. Period.
Her U.S. solo debut, "Free Me," is due Jan. 25 via 19 Recordings/Universal.
Wildly buoyant, the album is equal parts Petula Clark, Motown and Burt
Bacharach-with sun-bleached splashes of bossa nova.
In November, remixes of the title track went top 5 on Billboard's Hot Dance
Music Club Play chart and top 10 on the Hot Dance Radio Airplay tally, and Emma
couldn't be happier with that success.
"When I first heard that the dance remixes were on their way up the charts in
the U.S., I was ecstatic," the 28-year-old told Billboard.com by phone from her
home in London. "I couldn't wait to get there."
Which she did in September when she participated in the 11th annual Billboard
Dance Music Summit in New York. She shared her experiences -- along with Martha
Wash, DJ Rap, Ultra Nate and Esthero -- on the panel, On Your Knees: Hero
Worship.
"It was amazing," she said of her trip to Gotham. "It gave me the feeling that
things are really rolling (for me) in the U.S. I feel like it's happening
quickly there."
Last month, Emma spent 10 days in India, where she was filming a "celebrity
swap" documentary for the U.K.'s BBC2. Emma says she was filmed experiencing
life as a Bollywood celebrity. "I was being filmed every day," she said. The
documentary compares the Bollywood and British celebrity scenes.
On a purely celebrity front, a striking difference between the two countries is
the paparazzi, she notes. "In India, you get out of a car and the press
immediately approaches you. There is no red carpet. Nothing separates you from
the camera." And since the Spice Girls were popular in India, Emma says she was
constantly hearing shouts of, "Hey, Spice Girl!"
While filming the documentary, Emma was offered and accepted a small part in a
Bollywood film. "I will never forget that experience," she said. "They work
without schedules, which is very different from England where everything is
perfectly scheduled. They thought nothing of ringing you up and saying, 'Let's
do an interview.' They also don't believe in storyboards."
While such a working environment would be chaotic for some, Emma said it was
all very relaxed, chilled and spiritual. "I felt very calm there."
These days, with the holiday season in full swing, she is likely feeling less
calm. "I have lots of shopping to do," she acknowledged. "I'm like a big kid at
this time of year. It's about being at home with my family -- in your pajamas,
eating, catching up on TV and watching old films." (She admitted to having a
soft spot in her heart for "Dirty Dancing" and "Mary Poppins" with Julie
Andrews.)
After the holidays, Emma said she'll return to the United States for a
promotional tour surrounding the album's release. "I may even celebrate my
birthday (Jan. 21) there," she said.
Looking back at her days with the Spice Girls, Emma said they always received
much support from U.S. fans. "They were always there for us -- which is why I
always feel so at home there."
According to 19 Recordings/Universal, "Maybe" will be the next U.S. single from
Emma's album. Remixes are forthcoming in the New Year.

Beyonce open to Bollywood films

US pop sensation Beyonce Knowles has a liking for
Bollywood movies and would like to act or do an item
number in one, if given a chance.
Bollywood certainly seems to be catching the fancy of
western celebrities. Just a few weeks back, former Spice
Girl Emma Bunton shot for an item number for the Hindi
film titled Pal Tham Gaya. And now it is none other than
sensuous Beyonce who has expressed her interest in
Bollywood.
According to a report, Beyonce is quite a fan of some
Bollywood flicks and her favorites have been Devdaas and
Lagaan.
She is quoted to have said: "I loved 'Devdaas" -- the
actress (Aishwarya Rai) was amazing! I cried towards the
end of the film."
Beyonce added that she found Indian films very colorful
and, given a chance, she would "love to do an Indian
film, at least once."
Beyonce also has weakness for Indian food, particularly
the spicy curry. In fact, in a recent party in New York
she had the curry worth £4,000 brought in for her guests
from British chef Muhib Miah.
Beyonce has won multiple Grammy awards for her 2003 solo
debut, 'Dangerously in Love'. She recently regrouped with
the band 'Destiny's Child' for their new album Destiny
Fulfilled.

"And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

Could a former Spice Girl really only be 28 years old? Why do I feel like
the Spice Girls expired, like, in 1990?
