Bynes to Study at NYU?
Actress Amanda Bynes is set to follow in the footsteps of fellow teen queens
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, by studying at New York University.
The actress, 19, graduated from California's Thousand Oaks High School in
2004 and is currently filming the fourth season of her TV show, "What I Like
About You," with Jennie Garth.
However, a friend tells MSNBC.com's the Scoop, Bynes has applied to the
Manhattan college with the hope of starting next year.
The pal says, "She wants a college education.
"I don't know how that will affect her acting career, but she definitely
wants to do it."

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) The laughs that arose from "Beverly Hills,
90210" weren't necessarily meant to be there. Filter in a little
nostalgia, some stunt casting and a couple of pasted-on sideburns,
though, and you have some real comedy.
At least that's what the folks "What I Like About You" are hoping.
Friday's (Feb. 25) episode of The WB's third-year sitcom features a
"90210" reunion of "What I Like" star Jennie Garth and Luke Perry,
guest-staring as a plumber that Garth's Val recognizes as a one-night
stand from high school.
"We have a very good time in this episode to the sort of Dylan-Kelly
callback," Garth says, referring to her and Perry's "90210" characters.
"It's not Dylan and Kelly, but they look exactly like Dylan and Kelly.
It's really funny."
Perry's appearance is part of a sweeps stunt The WB is calling
Flashback Friday. The "What I Like" episode also features footage
Garth's co-star, Amanda Bynes, in her pre-Nickelodeon days, and
ex-"Brady Bunch" kid Christopher Knight will show up later in the
evening on "Blue Collar TV."
For Garth, working with Perry again meant reteaming with an old friend;
the two have stayed in touch since "90210" ended in 2000, and she made
the first call to Perry to see if he'd be interested in the guest spot.
"He was a little nervous, but he actually came in and jumped in with
both feet -- he was awesome," says Garth, who's also a national
spokesperson for Angel Soft Angels in Action, a program that honors
kids and teenagers for service to their communities. "It was really
exciting for everyone here."
It also, Garth says with a laugh, "made me remember all the things I
love and hate about him. After working with him for 10 years, we're
very close, and we'll both say publicly that there are things we love
and hate about each other."
In the episode, Perry plays Todd, a plumber who comes to fix a problem
at the bakery Val and Lauren (Leslie Grossman) run. Val, who's been
lecturing her younger sister, Holly (Bynes), about not equating sex and
love, is horrified when she realizes she has a past with Todd.
A flashback scene illustrates their hookup, with Garth done up in a
very ruffly, Kelly-esque black dress and Perry sporting a pompadour and
heavy sideburns. The "90210" theme plays faintly in the background, and
Todd mentions that his girlfriend, Brenda, is in Paris.
Perry, whose recent TV work includes darker fare like "Oz" and
"Jeremiah," hasn't done much sitcom work (although he appeared on NBC's
"Will & Grace" last week). The ease he and Garth feel with one another
is apparent, though.
"It was really sweet. He just wanted to do a good job and was very
earnest and wanted to learn all about the sitcom format," Garth says.
"I felt like an old pro because I actually got to teach him something
new."
Not that recalling their now-iconic characters didn't give the two
pause, though: "I remember Luke and I just looking at each other and
going, 'What are we doing? Why are we doing this?,'" she says. "But we
had a good time with it."

The kids are not all right
By LIZ BRAUN -- Toronto Sun
"If there is anything I would tell anybody in this profession, it is never
believe your own press."
-- Former child star Leif Garrett, and he would know.
Child actors -- you've got to love them.
Or maybe not. Spoiled, cranky, ill-mannered and generally up way past their
bedtime, rugrat actors in Hollywood have a bad rep the world over. And for
good reason. There may be other 12-year-olds involved in substance abuse and
temper tantrums, but not many that see it as part of their job.
The list of misbehaving brats is a mile long, and includes Drew Barrymore
(yes, she grew out of it), Macaulay Culkin, Danny Bonaduce, Dana Plato, Lisa
Loring and Tatum O'Neal, among many others.
The list of child stars who grew up more or less intact is far shorter:
Jodie Foster, Sarah Polley, Kurt Russell and Ron Howard come to mind.
Shirley Temple survived, but became a politician.
Serial bride Elizabeth Taylor weathered her share of bad ink and bad
behaviour and is still standing.
There are plenty of child actors and adolescent thespians we all love to
hate of that Hilary Duff/Britney Spears/Amanda Bynes interchangeable ilk.
The mousketeer syndrome is a tough one to shake.
So what, exactly, does little Dakota Fanning have to look forward to? Who
might be the role models for someone her age?
Jackie Coogan was one of the earliest "child stars" and became famous for
his acting and for his larcenous parents. Coogan was born into a vaudeville
family and was a performer by age four. His "break" came when Charlie
Chaplin cast him in The Kid, and Coogan became a huge star. In the 1930s, he
asked for the money he'd earned as a child, but his mother and stepfather
did not fork over.
Coogan sued, eventually winning a fraction of the millions he had actually
earned. People were so freaked out by this that California passed the Child
Actors' Bill (aka the Coogan Act), which sets up a trust fund for any child
actor to protect earnings. Years later, Coogan turned up on TV as Uncle
Fester. That's just wrong.
Macaulay Culkin is probably the most famous child actor who ever lived,
thanks to Home Alone, a film many call just another one of John Hughes'
crimes against humanity. Now 24, Culkin is one of the seven children of Kit
Culkin and Patricia Brentrup, and his career was put on hold in the late
'90s when his parents decided to duke it out over custody of the children
and control of Macaulay's money.
The judge who eventually awarded custody to Culkin's mother had harsh words
for both parents. In 1998, a year after his parents had finished fighting,
Culkin married Rachel Miner, another actor, but they separated in 2000.
Since then, Culkin has made a lousy movie (Party Monster) and done well in
theatre in a London production of Madame Melville.
Keisha Castle Hughes, the young star of Whale Rider and an Academy Award
nominee for her very first movie role, has just turned 14. She was
discovered during Whale Rider casting at her New Zealand school. She is
usually described as smart and focused, and she is always articulate in
interviews. Hughes has a Maori mother and an Australian father. Geography
alone may preserve her, as New Zealand is soooo far away from Hollywood.
Haley Joel Osment is a well-regarded young actor who is now 16. He's been
acting since the age of four and has a full-on career, with an Oscar
nomination for The Sixth Sense.
Osment's dad is an actor and his mother is a teacher. He has said he'd like
to model his career after those of Kurt Russell or Jodie Foster, people who
began as children but who are still respected actors today. Osment intends
to go to Yale.

*waving back*
The following people are really sexy. To hell with Rob Lowe !
Evan Bayh -- U.S. Senator from Indiana -- handsome and youthful for
his age
Jennie Garth -- Sweetheart Darling Blonde !
Her co - star Amanda Bynes -- Exotic long hair !
Adam Duritz -- lead singer of Counting Crows. Remember the MTV video
for "Mr. Jones And Me" from ten years ago in which he dangles from the
studio microphone in an adorable way? He makes you want to hug him.
He ain't too fat, just photographs that way. Adam is smart, too -- a
UC Berkeley grad who keeps in touch with the notoriously mean campus
administrators.
Condoleeza Rice -- her stance against Bin Laden and Hussein constitute
her job, just like rubber bands constitute someone else's. She has a
life, you know. *AND* a great bod. All those glass ceilings could
NOT make her overeat. Take that, cafeteria women in the Deep South !
And telemarketing women.
Eliza Dushku -- wonderful Aryan cheekbones, not that there's anything
wrong with that. She's probably a bleeding heart liberal like other
actresses who don't have to wait tables, so the word "Aryan" is wrong.
Getting back to Eliza's screen presence, she looks marvelous in Tru
Calling and in her scenes with DeNiro in City By The Sea, the feature
film from 2002.
Mark Rosson -- He doesn't ring a bell? He's the head of Capital
Program Management based in Sacramento, California. They've built
secondary schools for the poor in Schwarzenegger's backyard and in
Costa Mesa.
Still no bell ? Mark has appeared on nationwide television many times
to share his memories of Berkeley, California in the 1960s. (Free
Speech Movement, etc.) Most recently he did a gig on City
Confidential on the A & E Channel. It was the one about the Berkeley
professor who murdered three people in 1987.
Rosson went on camera for that, plus he practically dominated the PBS
series Making Sense of the Sixties with his abs and his tush. I love
the part where he recalled how 60s people in Berkeley looked at the
clothes they were wearing at that moment and realized suddenly, "THIS
is political!" [tugging at sweater] Message to Mark Rosson: the
threads are political if your abs are underneath them.
Hey, Adam Duritz and Mark Rosson, I'd eat you raw, either one of you,
to get power in Washington, DC. Let's get power and help Evan Bayh
help the poor. Should we have our first meeting in the alley behind
the Glimmerglass Opera in Berkeley, so dear to your hearts?
Anyone else belong on the list of good - looking people who rarely get
credit for their looks?
It's so sad that people feel however television marketing people want
them to feel. These marketing people say that Rob Lowe is sexy but
Adam Duritz isn't. Marketing people will take your soul if you let
them. You should feel how you want to feel about people's looks.
OYES! (And I can't quite figure out why: I just enjoy it.)
And at the other end of the age spectrum, that pencil Amanda Bynes.
And the grumpy daughter in AbFab, wotsername, darling? You know the
one I mean, she was here just a moment ago. The one with the
glasses, darling! Saffy, that's right, sweetie!

By JOHN ROGERS, Associated Press Writer
LOS ANGELES - She's been surrounded by celebrity just about all of her life,
but Jamie Lynn Spears would have you believe she's just another Louisiana
teenager blown away by the fact she gets to travel to Los Angeles from time to
time to make TV shows, where they sometimes let her keep the clothes she wears
on set.
But then Britney Spears' kid sister, still disarmingly polite and kid-like at
13, makes a pretty good case for her innocence when she recounts her reaction
to learning she would be starring in her own TV show this year.
"I thought, 'Oh my gosh, that would be so cool!'" she recalls thinking when
veteran TV producer Dan Schneider told her one day over lunch that he wanted to
take her out of the ensemble cast of the children's variety show "All That" and
put her in the spotlight.
"So we started talking about stuff and we came up with all of these — all of
these ideas — and he wrote something," says Spears, still sounding fascinated
by the process.
The result, "Zoey 101," debuts Sunday at 8 p.m. on the Nickelodeon children's
network. The sitcom stars Spears as Zoey Brooks, a student at Pacific Coast
Academy, a campus that until her arrival and that of a handful of other girls
had been an exclusive all-boys boarding school.
Zoey, not to be intimidated by her swaggering, macho 13-year-old male
counterparts, quickly begins to take charge, something Spears herself doubts
she would be as eager to do in real life.
"Zoey's kind of like a leader," she reflects. "I guess I could say I lead in
some ways, but Zoey is so good at that. I'm a little more shy than Zoey, I'd
say."
The two are alike in some ways, adds Spears, whose Southern accent is far more
noticeable in conversation than Zoey's is in front of the camera. Like Zoey,
pink is her favorite color, and she loves wearing the same clothes as her
character.
"All her clothes, I'm like, 'Can I have 'em?" she says, laughing.
The youngest Spears has never been far from show business. By the time she was
walking, Britney Spears had made her debut on TV's "The New Mickey Mouse Club."
She was just 8 when Britney's first album came out in 1999.
As for her shyness, if it's born out of being the youngest of three children,
Spears insists she wouldn't have it any other way.
"I was always mom and daddy's little baby," she giggles. "I was spoiled the
most."
After going through what she calls her "tomboy stage," she became interested in
acting and began appearing in local plays. Her mother, seeing the interest,
helped her land a commercial and a small role in her sister's film
"Crossroads."
Then Nickelodeon came calling, asking her to audition for "All That," the
long-running variety show that, like "Saturday Night Live," changes ensemble
casts every few years. Its alumni include Amanda Bynes and Nick Cannon, who
went on to star in films and their own TV shows, as well as "Fat Albert" star
Kenan Thompson, who is also in the current cast of NBC's "Saturday Night Live."
Schneider, the executive producer of "All That," says it took only two seasons
for Spears to become the show's breakout star.
She had won her spot in the cast when, as a gangly 11-year-old, she did an
over-the-top impression of an 84-year-old bodyguard who pitches people out of
windows and attacks them with leaf blowers. She had based the character on her
great-grandmother.
"Based on her audition, I would have added her to the cast of 'All That' even
if she had not been a Spears," says Schneider, adding the secret to her success
both as an actress and a person seems to rest in the fact she doesn't realize
she's beautiful, famous and talented.
"The net result is you have this real girl talking to you, sort of like the
girl next door," he says.
"Zoey 101," meanwhile, marks the first time Schneider has gone on location to
film a TV show. It takes place at Pepperdine University, and the Malibu campus,
with its palm trees and stunning hilltop views of the sun-dappled Pacific
Ocean, dominates the show almost as much Spears' Zoey does.
The Kentwood, La., teenager has taken advantage of that, ferrying some of her
school chums to California to visit the set.
"They just love the show," she says. "They pick on me, of course. They say (in
a teasing voice), "Ah ha, ha, you're so funny,' and like that, because that's
what friends do. But they love whenever I go to L.A. to do the show because
they get to come up and visit and they get to be extras in the background."
Her sister also got involved in putting the show together, writing its theme
song, "Follow Me," which the younger Spears sings.
"Yes sir, she wrote it and I changed a few little words here and there. But she
helped me a lot," says Spears, who bears a striking resemblance to her
23-year-old sister. She doesn't know yet if Britney will make a guest
appearance on the show, but adds it would be "really cool" if she did.
As for her own future, the youngest Spears (she also has an older brother) is
hoping "Zoey" does well enough to stay on the air for a few seasons. After that
she'd like to look into making movies and attending college.
"I want to go to Louisiana State University. If I can," she says shyly.
What she'll study is still up in the air.
"Oh, goodness, I don't know," she says, momentarily flustered. "I just want to
go to college. When I get older, I'll start thinking what I want to do."
I still can't believe that the cute little girl from "The Parent Trap" has
grown up into a person so out of control and so utterly desperate for fame. Why
can't she just be herself? Does she have a self anymore?
A) Why did she get breast implants? Doesn't she have anything to offer the
world besides Sex?
B) This stupid music career. Who cares? Does every actress have to become a
singer?
C) Kabbalah. This speaks for itself, an obvious cry for attention and the
desire to be trendy and different.
D) The need to be the biggest star in the world. Why? She's not that special
and fake boobs isn't going to conquer the world.
E) The immature feud with Hilary Duff. Grow up!
What is her problem?
In my mind she should just be that cute girl with freckles. I don't believe
for one second that you have to act like a hysterical whore to get popularity
in show business.
Look at Amanda Bynes, I don't see her name in the newspaper everyday and she
isn't acting like a whore.
Why did Lohan turn herself into such a freak show and why so early?
It's only been a little over a year and she's gone from ordinary, fun
teenager to attention-craving basketcase.
"I want to be looked at as an adult actress. That's why I didn't want to do a big movie W_hen I was 11. I was waiting till I was a little bit older."
"I think my parents are a big part of that because I'm still a normal kid. Like there are times I get frustrated because I want to wear certain shoes and they don't want me to wear them. It's all good in the end because I realize that there will be a time and place for high shoes."
"I'm a positive person. People should find happiness in the little things, like family."
"People don't recognize I'm getting older. They see reruns of "All That" so they assume I'm ten years old. I'm 16. I'm almost 5' 8". I'm driving now."
"I'm the type of person who believes that everything happens for a reason, and at the time that it's supposed to. So now ... other ideas are coming up for other movies and everything is just happening really wonderfully."
"It was my first season of All That. Kenan Thompson and I were playing ping-pong in this scene, and we were supposed to collide heads. As we were falling down, I hit myself in the lip with the paddle. I looked down and saw a puddle of blood, and I had to be rushed to the studio hospital with a swollen lip. My friend was like, 'Don't worry, Amanda. It doesn't look too bad you know, thousands of women pay [for collagen injections] to have their lips that big."
"The first time I got the script, it said The Amanda Show on it. "I thought they were kidding. I'm still little Amanda, and to be getting my own show, it's like, oh, my gosh!" - at age 13
