I said "in her late 50's and early 60's". Clearly I didn't look up Walther's
age, but nonetheless, at 65 she's still hot and got it. Dunaway just looks
desperate, like Mickey Rourke and Axl Rose.

I'm sure the reason you think Jessica Walter is much more youthful looking
than Faye Dunaway is because Walter is the younger of the two. Dunaway, the
older of the two, is 14 days older than Walter. Both are 65 years of age.

Lionsgate shrugging
'Atlas' pic mapped
By PAMELA MCCLINTOCK
Ayn Rand's most ambitious novel may finally be brought to the bigscreen
after years of false starts.
Lionsgate has picked up worldwide distribution rights to "Atlas
Shrugged" from Howard and Karen Baldwin ("Ray"), who will produce with
John Aglialoro.
As for stars, book provides an ideal role for an actress in lead
character Dagny Taggart, so it's not a stretch to assume Rand
enthusiast Angelina JolieAngelina Jolie's name has been brought up.
Brad PittBrad Pitt, also a fan, is rumored to be among the names
suggested for lead male character John Galt.
"Atlas Shrugged," which runs more than 1,100 pages, has faced a lengthy
and circuitous journey to a film adaptation.
The Russian-born author's seminal tome, published in 1957, revolves
around the economic collapse of the U.S. sometime in the future and
espouses her individualistic philosophy of objectivism. The violent,
apocalyptic ending has always posed a challenge but could prove
especially so in the post-9/11 climate.
Howard BaldwinHoward Baldwin said some people have pigeonholed "Atlas"
as better suited for a miniseries. That's why he sometimes pondered
turning "Atlas" into two movies. In fact, a two-part penned by
James V. HartJames V. Hart ("Contact""Contact") for the Baldwins
envisions "Atlas" as two pics, although it's likely to be reworked.
For years, producer Al Ruddy tried to make Rand's definitive book into
a movie, attracting the interest of Clint EastwoodClint Eastwood,
Robert RedfordRobert Redford and Faye Dunaway at one point.
But while Rand was still alive, she had approval, complicating
the process. After the author's death in 1982, Ruddy continued his
efforts and, in 1999, he inked a pactpact to produce "Atlas" as a
miniseries for TNT. Ultimately, the deal faltered.
In 2003, the Baldwins acquired the film rights to the novel from
Aglialoro, a New York businessman, after launching Crusader
EntertainmentCrusader Entertainment with Philip AnschutzPhilip
Anschutz. Hart was hired at that time to adapt.
Anschutz, however, ultimately decided not to make the movie.
The Baldwins then took the project with them when they left Crusader
and formed the Baldwin Entertainment Group.
"What we've always needed was a studio that had the same passion for
this project that we and John have," said Baldwin,
Generally speaking, Lionsgate keeps production budgets below $25
million. "Atlas" is likely to cost north of $30 million, but the studio
will reduce its exposure through international pre-salespre-sales and
co-financing partners. Actors would likely take less money
upfrontupfront -- a common practice for the indieindie.
Rand's individualistic and character-driven stories have captured the
imagination of Hollywood before. Warner Bros. made "The Fountainhead,"
starring Gary Cooper as the maverick architect Howard Roark, in 1949.
Oliver StoneOliver Stone was attached to direct a remake of
"Fountainhead" for Warner Bros. and Paramount, but the project has
languished in development. Along the way, Pitt expressed interest in
playing Roark.

Actress Jocelyn Brando dies at 86
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) - Actress Jocelyn Brando, who appeared in more
than a dozen films including two with her younger brother, Marlon, has died.
She was 86.
Brando, whose married surname was Pennebaker, died Sunday of natural causes
at her Santa Monica home, said her son, Martin Asinof of Tillamook, Ore.
Brando, who often defended and praised her better-known and controversial
brother, made her Broadway splash in the late 1940s as the leading nurse in
Mister Roberts.
She appeared in more than a dozen major motion pictures, beginning with
Fritz Lang's The Big Heat with Glenn Ford in 1953 and ending with Mommie
Dearest, which starred Faye Dunaway as mercurial actress Joan Crawford in
1981.
Brando appeared with her brother in two mid-1960s releases, The Ugly
American and The Chase.
She also appeared in more than 50 television programs, including Alfred
Hitchcock Presents, The Virginian, Little House on the Prairie and Kojak,
and had a recurring role as Mrs. Reeves in episodes of Dallas.
In a 1953 interview with the Los Angeles Times, she described her brother as
a sweet, hardworking man.
"I asked him for a tip about pictures, and he answered, 'Oh, I just say the
words. That's all I know about picture acting.' He probably was smart at
that to let me find my own way," she said.
She was at her brother's side when he died at 80 of lung failure in Los
Angeles on July 1, 2004.

DOES DUNAWAY HAVE A WEALTHY YOUNG LOVE?
Veteran actress Faye Dunaway has found an unlikely new beau -- the
22-year-old son of the Sultan of Brunei.
At 64, Dunaway is old enough to be the grandmother of Prince Azim, whose dad
is one of the richest men in the world, with a fortune of $47.5 billion.
Nevertheless, the pair left the exclusive London restaurant Nobu
hand-in-hand together Monday night, prompting reports of a romance.
Pals insist their relationship is strictly business-based -- budding
filmmaker Prince Azim is hoping to persuade Dunaway to appear in a new movie
he is making.
But the young lothario has a history with older women -- he once sent Sir
Mick Jagger's ex-wife Jerry Hall a bouquet of flowers so large two men had
to deliver it, reports the London Evening Standard.

Classic snubbed in top film list
By Bob Tourtellotte in Los Angeles
May 24, 2005
FRANKLY, Scarlett, Time magazine doesn't give a damn, either.
The magazine today published its list of 100 all-time favourite films,
ranging from Charlie Chaplin's City Lights (1931) to Steven Spielberg's
Schindler's List (1993) and the 2003 computer-animated hit Finding Nemo.
But critics Richard Schickel and Richard Corliss snubbed several classics,
including 1939's Gone with the Wind in which hero Rhett Butler leaves
Scarlett O'Hara with the memorable line: "Frankly my dear, I don't give a
damn."
"Neither of us really cared for that film," Schickel told Reuters,
describing Gone with the Wind as a "faux epic".
He said his first criteria was whether the film contained any "magic",
meaning whether it wowed him. But he conceded what one person liked wasn't
always what another fancied.
"In the end, all movie going is very subjective. You love things that you
can't fully explain, and you despise things that you can't fully explain,"
he said.
Schickel and Corliss each picked 100 films, and 40 to 50 titles made both
lists. The two debated other choices before determining the final list,
which includes many genres.
The pair then chose one favourite for each decade since Time first hit
newsstands in 1923. German director Fritz Lang's futuristic Metropolis
(1927) dominated the 1920s, while US titles Dodsworth and Citizen Kane ruled
the 1930s and 1940s respectively.
In modern times, director Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction led the 1990s,
and Time picked 2002's Talk to Her from Spain's Pedro Almodovar as the best
of the present crop.
Almost half of the films were made outside the United States. Some of those
titles include 2002 Brazilian film City of God, Japanese legend Akira
Kurosawa's 1952 movie, Ikiru, and Poland's Dekalog (1989) from director
Krzysztof Kieslowski.
"If you cut off your movie going to only seeing contemporary and US movies,
you're cutting yourself off from some really, really wonderful films,"
Schickel said.
US filmmaker Martin Scorsese, who has never won an Oscar as best director,
made the list with three movies, more than any other director. Those were
Goodfellas (1990), Raging Bull (1980) and Taxi Driver (1976).
Robert De Niro, who starred in Raging Bull and Taxi Driver, had five films
make the list, more than any other actor. But best performances went to
Marlon Brando for On the Waterfront, James Cagney in White Heat, Cary Grant
for Notorious, Faye Dunaway for Chinatown, and Barbara Stanwyck for Double
Indemnity.

Famous American Life Energy Vampires -
Unsuspected Of Destroying Your Emotional Integrity
10 November 2003
{HRI 20031110-V3.0}
(Version 3.0
on 20 May 2005)
(Suitable for foreign
language students)
'
If you admire the wrong people,
for things that are not really theirs to be admired,
then YOUR Emotional Integrity suffers.
(They themselves have none to begin with.)
'
That is because, how happy you are with Life, has to do with whether
you choose and give your Energy (your attention, your love)
NOT to people who perfectly PRETEND to you (as some famous actors
and also some famous politicians do, and which they do indeed
perfectly, without being detected by their public), but
how happy you are with life, depends on whether you choose,
and naturally then give your Energy that creates Life,
to people who are GENUINELY creating Life
- Life to share
and not as a pretense, but
- Life to really enjoy with you and with others,
and not as a pretense or 'act,' that displays "happiness."
'
'
'
Genuinely creating life, is very different from PRETENDING to
create "life"
- but you know from actors that they do "create life" as a
totally convincing pretense on TV or in movie theaters,
and *(6)
- you know (I assume you know) of politicians who PRETEND
to be very caring and very responsible,
while they do actually nothing but lying, acting with
contempt for others, secretly harming others, but
wanting to be undetected or un-opposed in the harm
they inflict on others.
'
'
Where and when 'getting attention' or 'getting money' or 'getting
Admiration,' already DEFINES *(7) "success," then
admiring such "success" in others,
and also, of course, you yourself pursuing such
"success,"
and you admiring yourself for 'getting a lot of
attention' or 'getting lots of money' or 'feeling a
lot of Admiration,' *(8)
is all too easily destroying your Emotional Integrity that
you need for feeling genuine happiness.
'
Now (however) the confusing thing is, that Criminal Minds
(Life Energy Vampires) CAN ONLY pretend to be "happy"
- and you can not easily detect that they are
pretending, maybe not at all, at some times
- and they probably have made you NOT WANT to look at
their extreme Ugliness, they made you pretend
(think and act as if) "it is not there," as long as
they keep it fully hidden from you
- and you are confused by them into believing and
feeling, that "they are sane," when they actually
only PRETEND to be "happy and normal,"
and so you do not at all see what is actually going on,
'
unless you do create the courage and the mental force (the
Life Energy) to look at and through their - usually hidden -
actions, *(9)
you can actually see these hidden things, because
Life Energy can penetrate and sense anything,
and - better still of course - if you can create and hold
on to and use enough of your Life Energy, as is necessary
to penetrate their masking Energies and to read (to
feel, to 'see,' to experience) their hidden, but
actual thoughts and intentions, their hidden contempt
for people and their hidden contempt for life, their
complete disrespect for truth and thus for people and
thus for life in general - if you manage
to look behind their Energy mask, BEHIND the "shining,
glittering smile of success and happiness" that they are
able to give you a perfect and heartily felt SHOW of
- perfect and wholly undetectable as actors do it
(see some listed, below) or as politicians do (some
examples listed, below, too)
- while they tell you "how much they love you;" or
- while they tell you "how much they fight for your
well-being and for your future,"
Really...
'
'
Happiness IS (the) feeling that you are connected to life.
In other, more formal words:
Your ability to enjoy life is proportional to
your Emotional Integrity,
that is, when your desire to feel beautiful
flowers, has enough integrity, then it connects
you indeed to real and beautiful flowers,
and - to give a quite applicable but
repulsive example - not to some pieces of
dirty toilet paper, that from a distance,
between the grass, look like "white
flowers;" you do not like to connect to
that as "beautiful flowers" (see examples
below), and to give your Life Energy and
emotions to those "beautiful flowers",
you do NOT let your senses, your feelings and
emotions be cheated, you do NOT want these
destroyed by someone's pretense, I assume,
but you rather like to maintain or regain your
ability
(with a particular type and the amount of
that Life Energy of yours, that you have
or create in order to connect to Life so
strongly and thus so correctly, that
you are able to feel the tremendous
Beauty of Life, and thus you are able)
to FEEL the tremendous happiness of being
alive. *(1)
'
'
In order to help you restore and to increase your Emotional Integrity,
I am giving you a list of some famous American Life Energy Vampires,
that I happened to notice, and
that have generally not been recognized as to the nature of
their fame,
regarding the ownership of the Energy for the
various types of abilities that they employ(ed)
to attract and to control or to rivet your
attention and admiration, and of many others
too, of course,
while they are displaying and claiming various abilities (Life
Energies) they use, to be their own. *(1)
Frank Sinatra
Oprah Winfrey
Larry King
Michael Jackson
Marlon Brando
Quincy Jones
Tom Cruise
John Travolta
Jane Fonda
Diana Ross
Cher
Liz Taylor
Faye Dunaway
George Clooney
Michelle Pfeiffer
Bill Gates
Barbara Boxer (US Senator)
Edward 'Teddy' Kennedy (US Senator)
Henry Kissinger
John F. Kennedy; Marilyn Monroe (alias Norma Jean Baker)
Franklin D. Roosevelt
Abraham Lincoln
Benjamin Franklin
The list does not include, as already stated in the
subject title, any such individuals from Europe,
Africa or Asia,
also not those, like Albert Einstein, or
Ayn Rand, who some may consider 'American.'
These I have mentioned in the European edition.
In the edition about Europe,
'Famous European Life Energy Vampires - Unsuspected Of Destroying
Your Emotional Integrity' {HRI 20040729-V1.1}, *(5)
I have taken the time and made the effort to mention for you the main
intention of each individual mentioned there. That, you could use for
also seeing more easily through the Life Energy masks of those here.
'
'
'
These things are made more understandable in the other Human Rights
Issues {HRI-}, and the HRI 'Genuine Art' *(1) is a good introduction
to the matter.
I hope this helps you to increase your Emotional Integrity, and that
you may alleviate some tiny portion of the damage that has been done
to you, as described for instance in
'The Mafia Code Against Mankind,' *(2)
and in
'The Origin Of Evil.' *(3)
I made these observations in accordance with the method of
truth, called
'The Trinity Of Science,' *(4)
without which it is not possible, I can add now, to
actually obtain an accurate understanding of life.
Koos Nolst Trenite "Cause Trinity"

psychopathic personality'
By Hervey Cleckley, Medical College of Georgia, USA.
(St. Louis, MO - USA: Mosby Press Medical Library, 1982)
(New York: New American Library, ISBN 0-452-25341-1)
From the back cover of the book:
'Arrogant, shameless, immoral, impulsive, antisocial,
superficial, alert, self-assured, boastful, callous,
remorseless, charming, irresponsible:'
'This is the poisonous mix of traits, that make up the
psychopathic personality. [...]'
'Psychopaths also sit in corporate boardrooms [as
directors of companies or institutions,] or function
as scientists or physicians [medical doctors,] or in
any number of respectable capacities [holding
respected jobs or positions].'
'They are all legally competent. [In the legal sense,
they are not insane, because they can talk and
think as brilliantly as a lawyer, to achieve their
purposes.]'
'None of them "hears voices" or displays any
psychosis [that a psychiatrist could easily
recognize or could recognize at all, as these can not
and also do not want to define psychosis correctly].'
'But they [psychopathic personalities] are all headed
for [causing others] big trouble, in a life-long
string of [causing] disasters [for others], that
could run the gamut [range, the whole spectrum]:
From [causing] financial ruin, to murder.'
'Psychiatrists know neither the cause nor the cure of
this disorder [and they can not and do not want to
define 'disorder' either, and they have been working
and will continue to work very hard to hide the
cause of any 'disorder,'] which evades [their]
established definitions of either sanity or insanity;
[So, I have defined all these terms, for you,
in the Human Rights Issues {the HRI's}, as none
indeed existed. So it is for the first time in
history, that correct definitions exist and
have been published.]'
'indeed, psychiatrists themselves
[and any persons who try to help and to
understand Criminal Minds - any people who

ABC Execs Give Thanks to 'God' -- and Halle
By Lisa de Moraes
Wednesday, March 9, 2005; Page C07
About 25 million pairs of eyes were watching "God" on ABC and even more were
watching "Idol" on Fox, but by bulking up on "CSIs," the Eye Network managed
to snag the biggest average audience for the week anyway.
Here's a look at the week's powerful and weak:
Halle Berry starred in "Their Eyes Were Watching God," which drew the best
ratings for a made-for-TV movie in five years. (Vivian Zink -- Abc)
WINNERS
"Their Eyes Were Watching God." Nearly 25 million pairs of them, though we
suspect they were watching Halle Berry. ABC's latest brought-to-you-by-Oprah
flick was the most watched movie on any network since CBS's
December-December romance "One Special Night," starring Julie Andrews and
James Garner, more than five years ago. It's also Oprah Winfrey's biggest
ABC flick audience since "Before Women Had Wings" in November '97.
"NYPD Blue" wrapped up its 12-season run with 16.1 million viewers on
Tuesday -- the cop drama's largest audience in more than three years. The
tribute that preceded it drew ABC's largest non-sports audience in the time
slot since May 2002 -- more than 13 million.
"Law & Order: Trial by Jury." In "ER's" Thursday 10 p.m. hour, NBC's fourth
"Law & Order" drama opened with more than 17 million viewers -- the
franchise's biggest opening haul ever. Predictably, the show's numbers went
down the next night when it moved to its regular Friday time slot, though
its 14.5 million viewers still constituted NBC's largest audience in the
time period in about two years, excluding Olympics coverage.
"America's Next Top Model." The UPN reality series started its fourth cycle
with its biggest opening audience yet -- 5.1 million viewers.
LOSERS
Fox's Friday. Fox logged its smallest Friday prime-time audience since at
least 1991 with a losers' parade that included an infomercial for the flick
"Robots," which averaged a lousy 2.7 million viewers, and "Jonny Zero,"
which fell to a lowest-yet 2.3 million.
"Starlet." Hope Faye Dunaway didn't think this reality series for WB would
jump-start her career; it's the least-watched series opening of the TV
season on any network, with just 1.6 million bothering to watch.
"Bachelorette." ABC's reality series suffered a smallest-ever finale
audience of just 8.4 million viewers. Ironically, immediately after, the
post-finale blah-blah show "Bachelorette: After the Final Rose" logged that
franchise's biggest audience ever -- 11.3 million viewers. This is probably
because bachelorette Jen shrewdly saved her final bit of guy-rejecting for
the blah-blah show.
"Deadwood." HBO's critically heralded western opened its second season with
an average of 2.79 million viewers Sunday around 9 p.m. Its first season
finale had opened with 3.21 million and the series premiered with 5.79
million.
"The Contender." NBC's oft-delayed boxing competition finally debuted this
Monday to less than great results, triggering a tsunami of boxing puns from
competitors and The Reporters Who Cover Television: " 'The Contender' failed
to deliver many solid punches," " 'Contender' takes first-round beating,"
"Sylvester Stallone and Fox's Oscar De La Hoya have been knocked out by
dismal ratings." The much-ballyhooed preview bagged a disappointing 8
million viewers, though it did manage to win its time period among men 18 to
34.
"Fat Actress." Thin crowd. On the other hand, 924,000 viewers is a good
number for the premiere telecast of a Showtime series. Still, given all the
hype, you'd think it would have cracked the million mark in its first
telecast last night. For comparison, the premiere of Showtime's "The L Word"
weighed in with about 930,000 viewers, but "Fat" crushed "Huff," which had
opened with about 460,000. "Fat" wasn't helped much by its "Super Size Me"
lead-in, which produced a measly 383,000 viewers; in its replay later last
night, "Fat Actress" drew 349,000.
The week's 10 most watched programs, in order, were: Fox's Tuesday "American
Idol"; CBS's "CSI"; ABC's Sunday flick "Their Eyes Were Watching God"; Fox's
Wednesday and Monday "American Idol"; CBS's "Survivor: Palau"; ABC's "Lost"
and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition"; NBC's Thursday unveiling of "Law &
Order: Trial by Jury"; and ABC's "NYPD Blue" series finale.

TODAY'S celebrities flash 59 per cent of their body on the red carpet, a new
study has found.
Researchers have scanned through the years to see how much nudity has been
on show over the decades.
In the '90s, when Liz Hurley upped the ante in a safety-pin Versace creation
at the opening of Four Weddings And A Funeral, celebrities revealed an
average 39 per cent of skin.
Since then, stars such as British TV presenter and model Kelly Brook have
taken flashing the flesh to new heights.
In 2000, Brook shocked onlookers at the premiere of gangster movie Snatch by
wearing a Julien Macdonald two-piece, consisting of little more than
knickers and a backless, sideless dress.
Now experts have calculated the average percentage of nudity on show in
every decade since the 1950s, by selecting 10 iconic photographs from each
period.
They put the images together on a body template to calculate just how much
went uncovered.
For '50s stars such as Ava Gardner glamour was all the rage.
Researchers for the Odeon survey calculated that about 20 per cent of flesh
was on show and it was mostly the cleavage and upper arms.
Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot may have been '60s sexbombs, but the red
carpet look was modest and demure, according to researchers.
Screen legends tended to don full-length formal gowns, uncovering just 9 per
cent on the red carpet.
Stars such as Faye Dunaway and Carrie Fisher covered up in the '70s, with an
average 7 per cent on show, but in the '80s the figure crept up to 13 per
cent. PA

Faye Dunaway Sued for Maid's Fall
Movie legend Faye Dunaway is being sued by a former maid after she fell at
the actress' home.
Belveth Geron claims she was working at the Chinatown star's Hollywood home
when she tripped and fell down a "defective outside stairway," according to
court papers obtained by scandal show Celebrity Justice.
In the suit, Geron claims the fall "greatly impaired her health, strength
and activity" and that it was "an extreme shock to her nervous system."
Geron wants Dunaway to pay for all her lost wages and medical expenses.
The maid even claims that she has been unable to perform "that special
marital relationship" since her fall and she will be "unable to engage in
said activities in the future."

By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer
LOS ANGELES - Take seven brainy nerds and seven dim beauties, add Ashton
Kutcher as a matchmaker and what do you get? A television reality series, of
course. Kutcher, the brains behind MTV's "Punk'd," is producing the new series
for the WB network this summer.
The goal of "Beauty and the Geek" is to couple seemingly mismatched pairs and
see which can work best together, said David Janollari, the network's
entertainment president, on Saturday.
"It's really looking at stereotypes of people and how we look at beautiful
women and not-so-beautiful men," he said.
They will go through a series of competitions: combining wits on a camping
trip, learning how to dance and working at a deli (the guys help the girls
figure out how to make change).
"Beauty and the Geek" joins NBC's "Tommy Lee (news) Goes to College" as the two
most colorful reality series planned by the networks this summer. The NBC
series follows the rock star as he enrolls in college in Nebraska.
The WB is trying to recover from a down year in both ratings and buzz among its
youthful target audience. Its hottest series now is the young drama "One Tree
Hill."
Within the next two months, the network will bring back the drama "Summerland,"
introduce a reality series, "Starlet," where aspiring actresses are put through
a boot camp run by actress Faye Dunaway, and start a comedy, "Living with
Fran," with actress Fran Drescher playing a divorcee with a boyfriend who's in
his mid-20s.
That's exactly the target age group the network is seeking to broaden its
reach.
"We don't want to be seen as just a teenage network," said Garth Ancier, the
WB's chief executive.

Melissa may be Supergirl
By Jonathon Moran
October 14, 2004
FORMER Home and Away star Melissa George is rumoured to be in the running to
play Supergirl in a big budget Hollywood movie.
Supergirl ... Melissa George in the popular US TV series Alias.
American websites have named George, who has made a name for herself on US
spy series Alias, as the frontrunner for a possible film based on the famous
DC Comic.
"Melissa George, who was on ABC's Alias, is someone they're discussing for
the lead," the Cinescape website said.
"Whoever signs will be signing a two-picture deal.
"Akiva Goldsman was going to write the film, after writing a favourable
treatment, but has decided against it, he'll produce only."
Movie house Warner Bros is finalising the script for Superman Returns,
written by Bryan Singer, who directed the X-Men movies.
Casting for that film is yet to begin but the film has been slated for a
2006 release and there has been talk it could be shot in Australia.
Hollywood A-listers including Jude Law, Brendan Fraser and Josh Hartnett are
rumoured to be interested in the part of Clark Kent - the character's alter
ego.
Given the amount of A-list interest in that film, rumours have begun to fly
about his younger cousin Supergirl.
Supergirl was made into a film in 1984 with Helen Slater playing the action
hero. Faye Dunaway, Mia Farro and Peter O'Toole were also in the film.
Cinescape said any new Supergirl flick would be unlikely to go into
production for a few years.
"They're talking 2006, but since things are only now progressing, I suspect
a little later," the movie website said.
George is filming the remake of The Amityville Horror in Chicago and will
then move to London for Beattie's Derailed, opposite Clive Owen and Jennifer
Aniston.
She played Angel Brooks on Home and Away from 1993 to 1996 before heading to
the United States.
Her work there has included a guest appearance on sitcom Friends.

- Celebrity Gossip
- A beautiful Southern blonde with real, old-fashioned movie-star appeal, Dunaway reached her highest level of popularity in an era W_hen leading men were showing more "realistic" traits. Subsequently, her glamour rubbed off on considerably less elegant types such as Dustin Hoffman and Jack Nicholson. But Dunaway is an extremely skilled actress who was every bit as capable as any of her costars, so there was never any incongruity in even the least likely pairings. A theater arts major from Boston University's School of Fine and Applied Arts, Dunaway made her screen debut in The Happening and quickly followed with Otto Preminger's Hurry Sundown (both 1967), immediately drawing attention to herself. But she made the biggest impression (and got an Academy Award nomination) in another film that year, Bonnie and Clyde paired with Warren Beatty in a crime film that romanticized its bankrobber protagonists and then annihilated them in an unprecedented on-screen massacre that galvanized audiences.
Most of her subsequent 1960s roles were successful but unspectacular; she played a savvy investigator opposite jaded millionaire Steve McQueen in The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), and the young love interest of Kirk Douglas' adman-gonegoofy in Elia Kazan's leaden The Arrangement (1969). The 1970s brought her a number of meaty roles, including a turn opposite Dustin Hoffman in 1970's Little Big Man and the tragic female lead of Chinatown (1974) opposite Jack Nicholson. Her on-set clashes with director Roman Polanski became the stuff of Hollywood legend. Her work in the film netted her a second Academy Award nomination. Two years later she actually won a Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of a ruthless network-TV executive in the outrageous satire Network (1976). She also appeared in The Three Musketeers (1974) and The Four Musketeers (1975) as villainous Milady de Winter; in Three Days of the Condor (1975), sheltering hunted man Robert Redford; and in Eyes of Laura Mars (1978), as a high-fashion photographer.
Then, somehow, her career lost momentum. The quality of her performances hadn't declined, but the quality of her parts had. The 1980s found her laboring in the likes of The First Deadly Sin (1980), The Wicked Lady (1983), Supergirl, (1984, a super turkey), Ordeal by Innocence (1984), Burning Secret Midnight Crossing (both 1988), and Wait Until Spring, Bandini (1989). The decade was redeemed-partially-by two outstanding performances: Dunaway camped it up playing movie star and abusive mom Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest (1981), and took an uncharacteristically gritty turn as an alcoholic lowlife in Barfly (1987, opposite Mickey Rourke), winning serious critical attention again. She has worked steadily, generally in supporting roles, since that time. She did enjoy a well-written lead opposite Richard Widmark in a made-for-TV movie, Cold Sassy Tree (1989), and was properly chilling as the sexless wife of Robert Duvall in The Handmaid's Tale (1990). Recent credits include Double Edge (1992), The Temp (1993), Arizona Dream (1995, filmed in 1991), and Don Juan DeMarco (1995). In the fall of 1993 she made her TV sitcom debut as the star of the short-lived "It Had to Be You."
- In order to be taken seriously as an actress, she turned down a regular role on "The Guiding Light" in 1965.
- By her own admission in a New York Times interview many years back, she and late comedian Lenny Bruce were briefly lovers and lived together for a week, circa 1963. She was also engaged to director Jerry Schatzberg in the late 60s.
- The role of Evelyn Mulwray in Chinatown (1974) was originally marked for Ali MacGraw, wife of the film's producer Robert Evans. By the time production started, MacGraw had left Evans for actor Steve McQueen and other actresses were considered for the part. Dunaway's main competition for the role was Jane Fonda.
- Other actresses considered for Dunaway's breakthrough role of Bonnie Parker included Natalie Wood, Sue Lyon, Carol Lynley, Leslie Caron, and even Warren Beatty's big sister Shirley MacLaine. Tuesday Weld actually turned down the role due to pregnancy.
- Competing for beauty titles was considered de rigueur for Southern girls in the 1950s, and Dunaway remembers in her autobiography that she was somehow convinced that she could NOT leave Florida until she won one. She missed being crowned May Queen at Leon High School in Tallahassee by a mere six votes, and had another near-miss at a title W_hen she was voted runner up for Miss University of Florida in 1959. Dunaway finally scored her beauty crown when she was named Sweetheart of Sigma Chi, and promptly transferred to Boston University.
- Has a connection with the James Bond - 007 franchise: was considered for the role of Domino Derval in Thunderball (1965), and Octopussy (1983) as the female lead (Maud Adams ended up with the part). Faye had a chance to co-star with Pierce Brosnan (the fifth 007) in the remake of Thomas Crown Affair, The (1999).
- Converted to Catholicism while in Boston. [27 December 1996]
- Ranked #65 in Empire (UK) magazine's "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time" list. [October 1997]
- Her husband, Peter Wolf, was with the J. Geils Band.
- Her son with O'Neill was born in 1980.
- Attended Boston University. Gave up a Fulbright Scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London to join the original training program at the Lincoln Center Repertory Theater in New York. She got her first starring role in "A Man For All Seasons" just days after graduating from college. She was the daughter of a career army man which resulted in her traveling constantly in her early life.
- She auditioned for the role of Daisy that went to Mia Farrow in "The Great Gatsby" (1974). Her 1995 autobiography was titled "Looking for Gatsby: My Life".
