LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The creator of "Grey's Anatomy" has
renegotiated her production pact at Touchstone Television for at least
three years, extending it through the 2008-09 season.
Shonda Rhimes had just completed the first year of a two-year deal,
which also included a one-year option, that she signed with the
Disney-owned studio in May 2005. The new three-year deal is said to be
worth about $10 million, vaunting Rhimes into the top echelon of TV
writer-producers. Touchstone TV declined comment Friday.
Rhimes' rich pact reflects the importance of her red-hot medical drama
to the studio as well as ABC, which is also owned by Disney. The
network is banking on the show to revive its fortunes on Thursday night
next season. "Grey's" was an out-of-the-box hit for the network as a
midseason entry in the 2004-05 season. This past season, "Grey's"
thrived in the Sunday 10 p.m. slot behind "Desperate Housewives,"
giving ABC the confidence to relocate the show to the competitive
Thursday 9 p.m. berth in the upcoming season opposite CBS' "CSI.."
Moreover, Rhimes has a new untitled drama pilot in the works for
Touchstone and ABC about a group of female journalists. She has
recruited former "Grey's" trouper Jeffrey Dean Morgan as a member of
its ensemble cast.
Before penning "Grey's," Rhimes' credits included features "The
Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement" and "Crossroads" as well as HBO's
biopic "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge," which earned Halle Berry an
Emmy and a Golden Globe.

Jackman, after all, viewed Dirty Harry, A Fistful of Dollars and The Good,

"We're two drafts into it," Jackman says. "It's probably going to be a
prequel. In the movies he's evolved a lot, so I think we need to go back to
his origins."
Most actors create production companies for tax write-off purposes, but
Jackman has set up Seed Productions to co-produce the film with 20th Century
Fox and keep things ticking over. As well as his own projects, the
production company will also help develop directorial projects for his wife,
Deborra-Lee Furness, who has had her own premiere in Cannes with Ray
Lawrence's Jindabyne.
"I always believed as an actor you should be proactive," Jackman says. "When
I first graduated from drama school me and my friend Simon Lyndon had a
theatre company together because I never liked the idea of being a victim
sitting by the phone waiting for a call."

LONDON - What was meant to be a friendly chat to promote the new
"X-Men" movie turned into a frosty discussion about race on a popular
morning radio program, but the British Broadcasting Corp. defended its
disc jockey.
Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry appeared on Chris Moyles' Radio One
breakfast show Thursday and clashed with her host after he impersonated
what he described as a "big, fat, black guy."
"Are we having a racist moment here?" Berry, the first black actress to
win an Academy Award for a lead role, asked Moyles after she took
exception to his impersonation. Moyles, who is white, said he just
couldn't do American accents.
Moyles made it clear on air that there was nothing racist in what he
said, a BBC spokesman said Friday on condition of anonymity, in line
with the corporation's policy.
The exchange began when Hugh Jackman, Berry's "X-Men: The Last Stand"
co-star, jokingly suggested that Moyles might take the role of his body
double if he ever landed the part of James Bond.
"I could definitely do that," Moyles said before adding, "Put your
hands in the air!"
A somewhat puzzled Jackman replied, "Are you some kind of Brooklyn
Bond?"
Moyles replied: "I'm a black American guy. A big, fat, black guy. Put
your hands up in the air."
The interview continued, though the DJ later said Berry was "ratty" -
British slang for grouchy.
Berry won an Oscar in 2002 for her role in "Monster's Ball."

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - They're not married and their romance has fed
Hollywood's rumor mills for months. But on Thursday, People Magazine
gave Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie its blessing.
The magazine named the heavily-pregnant Jolie, Pitt and the two adopted
children they are raising as the "World's Most Beautiful Family."
People put Jolie on the cover of the magazine's annual "Most Beautiful
People" issue, saying that it was the first time that a pregnant woman
has won the cover spot for its special issue.
The magazine hailed Jolie for her humanitarian work as well as her
natural beauty. It quoted musician Wyclef Jean as saying, "She looks
most beautiful when she's in the field -- natural, no makeup, nothing.
Because (then) you see Angelina, the angel. It doesn't get any better
than that."
In addition to the twice-divorced Jolie, 30, and Pitt, 42, the "World's
Most Beautiful Family" includes son Maddox, 4, and daughter Zahara, 1.
The four are currently in the African nation of Namibia, where Jolie is
awaiting the birth of her child with Pitt.
The couple met during the filming of the movie "Mr. and Mrs. Smith,"
when Pitt was still married to actress Jennifer Aniston.
It was the fourth time Jolie has made the "beautiful people" list.
Other stars on the list included actresses Halle Berry and Julia
Roberts, who now tie for the most appearances with 10 apiece. Oscar
winners George Clooney and Reese Witherspoon made the list as did
television stars Ryan Seacrest of "American Idol" and Eva Longoria of
"Desperate Housewives."
The People special issue hits newsstands on Friday

Director Spike Lee has criticised George Clooney for highlighting Gone
With The Wind actress Hattie McDaniel'>Hattie McDaniel's 1940 Oscar triumph as an
example of Hollywood's "forward-thinking".
While accepting his Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor earlier
this month, Clooney fired back at critics who claim Hollywood is out of
touch by citing McDaniel's win.
Lee says, "To use that as an example of how progressive Hollywood is is
ridiculous. Hattie McDaniel'>Hattie McDaniel played Mammy in Gone With the Wind.
"That film was basically saying that the wrong side won the Civil War
and that black people should still be enslaved.
"C'mon! I like George a lot. I'm not hating on him. But I don't think
he really thought it out.
"How many years was it between Hattie McDaniel'>Hattie McDaniel and Halle Berry (winning
an acting Oscar)? Sixty-some-odd? C'mon!"

He'll probably wake up in bed with Halle Berry or, George Clooney.

This is a bigger POS than Halle Berry claiming she can't get a date,
and frankly, it makes the woman sound pretty freakin' pitiful.
The director, Paul Verhoeven, is on record as saying Stone knew exactly
what was going on. I couldn't find a quote for that, but I found this:
"Sharon Stone once claimed that Paul Verhoeven had tricked her into
doing the infamous leg-crossing scene in Basic Instinct. According to
Stone, the director told her to remove her panties - because they were
reflecting too much light. When the scene made Stone a star, however,
she backpedaled and claimed that the scene was her own idea." (Source:

And my love intrest is Lucy Lui? That's fine, even though I'd rather have
Nikki Cox, Scarlett Johanson, Charlize Theron, Halle Berry or Sandra
Bullock, but I wouldn't kick Ms. Lui out of my bed for eating crackers.

Will Eva Green'>Eva Green escape the 'Bond curse'?
By JIM SLOTEK -- Toronto Sun
A little bit Barbara Bach (The Spy Who Loved Me) and a little bit Carole
Bouquet (For Your Eyes Only), French actress Eva Green'>Eva Green definitely has the
decolletage to be a Bond girl.
But according to one school of thought, the relative unknown -- who was
announced last week to play original Bond girl Vesper Lynd opposite newly
crowned James Bond Daniel Craig in Casino Royale (which opens Nov. 17) -- is
now doomed to stay a relative unknown.
Green's previous major exposure has been as Orlando Bloom's love interest in
the big-budget Crusades bomb Kingdom Of Heaven. So careerwise, she is a
blank slate.
But as blank as Lois Chiles, who played Holly Goodhead in Moonraker? Or Lana
Wood who played Plenty O'Toole in Diamonds Are Forever?
Whether there's a career-killing "Bond curse" or not (and there are enough
post-Bond success stories to at least poke holes in the theory), the
latter-day Bond era of big-name leading ladies appears to be over.
The part of Vesper, Bond's tragic one true love according to the Ian Fleming
books, was reportedly turned down by the likes of Angelina Jolie, Charlize
Theron, Scarlett Johansson, Thandie Newton and Canadian girl Rachel McAdams.
Is it the bimbo factor? If so, it's an unfair rap if you consider Bond girls
pre- and post- what I consider the null-point of Bond and his Girls -- The
Living Daylights.
TLD, you may recall, was the film that introduced Timothy Dalton as a
humourless Bond. Released at the height of the AIDS scare, it was the first
film in which Bond became a one-woman man (girl next door Maryam D'Abo as
the cello-playing Kara Milovy), and the first in which it's suggested he
doesn't sleep with his leading lady or anybody else.
Listen, you don't want a guy with a licence to kill getting cranky.
James and Kara ride a Ferris wheel. They hug and hold hands. They might as
well have cast Timothy Hutton.
Before? Well, there was a bit of Austin Powers in Bond lines like, "There's
something I want you to get off your chest" (Diamonds Are Forever). And
perhaps a touch of misogyny in how quickly he moves on after a bedmate is
poisoned by his side (You Only Live Twice). But it was the times, and the
role of Bond girl was that of sex kitten.
After? As often as not, Bond girls kicked more butt (Grace Slick, Famke
Janssen, Michelle Yeoh), and toyed with Bond as much as he used to toy with
the likes of Tiffany Case. So maybe Angelina et al are just paying heed to
Halle Berry's inauspicious post-Bond career (Catwoman? Gothika?).
You don't want your last words, careerwise, to be: "Oh, James!"

Director gets probation
From: Agence France-Presse From correspondents in Los Angeles
February 24, 2006
A JUDGE today sentenced James Bond filmmaker Lee Tamahori to three years'
probation and ordered him to help clean up Hollywood after he was arrested
in drag during a prostitution swoop.
New Zealander Tamahori, 55, who also directed the 1994 award-winning film
Once Were Warriors, was arrested in Hollywood on January 8.
He allegedly entered an undercover policeman's car while clad in women's
clothes and offered to perform a sex act for money, according to Los Angeles
police.
But under a plea deal, the director of Bond movie Die Another Day today
pleaded no contest to a charge of criminal trespass in return for
prosecutors dropping charges of prostitution and loitering, prosecutors
said.
"A plea deal was reached late last night (Wednesday) and Mr Tamahori pleaded
no contest to one misdemeanour count of trespass," Frank Mateljan, spokesman
for Los Angeles' City Attorney, said.
Tamahori, who was not in court for the hearing in Los Angeles, was placed on
36 months' probation and ordered to switch his dress for an official
jumpsuit and perform 15 days of community service for the Hollywood
Beautification Project.
"It is a project where convicts clean the streets in Hollywood and paint
out graffiti," Mr Mateljan said.
In addition, Tamahori must also attend an AIDS education course.
Tamahori, who since his arrest had been free on $US2000 ($2719) bail, had
faced a maximum six months in jail and a $US1000 ($1359) fine.
Tamahori also directed Mulholland Falls, last year's action adventure XXX:
State of the Union, with Samuel L Jackson and Willem Dafoe and 2001's Along
Came a Spider with Morgan Freeman.
Tamahori's lawyer, celebrity attorney Mark Geragos, did not immediately
return calls for comment.
Tamahori started out as a commercial artist and photographer in New Zealand,
before entering the film industry in the late 1970s as a boom microphone
operator, going on to become an assistant director.
He got his break in Hollywood directing an episode of the hit television
series The Sopranos in 2000 and went on to do Spider the following year,
before making Die Another Day starring Piece Brosnan and Oscar-winning Bond
girl Halle Berry in 2002

The stunning actress, 39, and Aubry, 30, have been quietly dating since
meeting on the set of a Versace ad campaign in November, but finally went
public at a Versace store re-opening in New York City on February 7.
According to associates and family members, the couple is completely smitten
with each other.
Aubry's father Gerard told People magazine, "He told me he was in love."
While his agent Sean Patterson says, "It was something that was completely
unexpected, and he's just enjoying each day as it goes by. He's very, very
happy right now."

Theron Denies Dressing Down for Oscar
By WENN|Friday, October 28, 2005
HOLLYWOOD - Charlize Theron has hit out at claims she chose an
unattractive role in new movie North Country (photos) to boost her chances
of reclaiming the Academy Award she won in 2004 for Monster.
Theron--who gained weight to play serial killer Aileen Wuornos in
Monster--ams down again in North Country, to play a female miner.
But the actress is angry she has been accused of courting Oscar voters to
win nother Best Actress award.
The South African star says, "That's nonsense. It was necessary to change my
looks for North Country, because mine workers really don't look chic. When
beautiful women change her looks for a movie--like Nicole Kidman in The
Hours or Halle Berry in Monster's Ball--that has nothing to do with
calculation!
"It's the job of an actress to play other people."

Halle kiss driving Adrien Brody'>Adrien Brody bananas
By JIM SLOTEK - Toronto Sun
NEW YORK -- Not that he's complaining, but Adrien Brody'>Adrien Brody wants you to know
that, in his case at least, winning a Best Actor Oscar has its minor
downsides.
For starters, there was that surprise "dip-and-kiss" he gave Halle Berry on
live TV in front of hundreds of millions of people after he won for The
Pianist.
"Y'know, it was a one-off thing, and it's become a running gag," says Brody,
who plays the human male love interest Jack Driscoll in Peter Jackson's
megabuck FX extravaganza King Kong.
"It's not necessarily the most beautiful woman in the room. The guy who's a
talk show host will want me to do it to him or they do it to me. I was asked
on Access Hollywood, 'So, did you kiss King Kong like you kissed Halle?' I
said, 'That's in the sequel.'"
There was also the sudden attention given to a guy who'd never attracted the
interest of paparazzi. "It appeared that I was everywhere, because they took
my picture everywhere I went. I'd go out and all of a sudden it looked like,
man, I'm living it up, I'm a man about town.
"I think some people love the attention, and it fulfills them in some way.
But it's never been my agenda."
A likely "giant ape" of a blockbuster, King Kong is unlikely to lower
Brody's profile. But it does address another aspect of his Oscar win for
playing a Jewish concert pianist in Roman Polanski's The Pianist. "There's
this idea that I am this emaciated Polish actor. I'm serious, people come up
and say where are you from, London?" (In fact, Brody, the son of
photographer Sylvia Plachy, was raised in Queens, N.Y.). It's miraculous how
much The Pianist was embraced by the world, by Hollywood. But it is still, I
think, looked at as a foreign film.
"I think people somehow cannot get that I am an American actor. I embody
America. I love cars, I love motorcycles."
So here he is as action man. Jackson's King Kong more or less follows the
plot of the original with the original characters. One step ahead of the
cops, scoundrel producer Carl Denham (Jack Black) fairly kidnaps his cast
and crew -- including starlet Ann Darrow (Naomi Watts) and writer Jack
Driscoll -- and sets sail to film a legendary ape-monster on a mysterious
island. The smitten Driscoll takes his life in his hands, dealing with
dinosaurs, giant insects and eventually King Kong himself, en route to
saving Ann and switching the scene to New York where you know what happens
next.
"It is a love triangle in a way. It is also the type of role I'm attracted
to, a guy who is thrust into circumstances beyond his control, out of his
element and having to survive. It was very important for Peter to make New
York a kind of oppressive jungle, so that Kong was out of place just like I
would be in his jungle -- a young man trying to save my girlfirend from a
gorilla.
"I think it proves I can hold my own in a big studio movie, and I can play a
leading man without making him a stereotypical leading man. We can be
sensitive human beings in this world and be tough guys too," says Brody,
whose next role, in the movie Manolete, has him playing a bullfighter.
All well and good, except people may think he's Spanish.
