It was still just one sentence and last time I checked, Natalie Maines was
not sending military people into the biggest hornets nest on the planet.
Being embarassed that a moron is president does not encourage much of
anything. Invading Iraq with the words, "Do not destroy oil wells" does,
however. It was a huge error and George W Bush made it. Natalie Maines was
right. Michael Moore, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Janeane Garofalo and all
the rest of the Hollywood liberals you loathe were right. It's not possible
to be more right than they were. Choke it down.

BY CAROLYN CALLAHAN AND DREW MACKENZIE
SPECIAL TO THE NEWS
Will Ross and Rachel finally live happily ever after?
That's the question that has had "Friends" fans on the edge of their seats —
until tonight, when the wildly popular sitcom goes off the air after 10 years
at the top of the ratings heap.
Will Ross Geller (David Schwimmer) talk Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston) out of
moving to Paris, or will he decide to go with her?
Over the years, the hapless couple has had more ups and downs than a roller
coaster.
The ups:
1. After countless missed opportunities, they reveal their true feelings and
finally get together for the first time. 2. They tie the knot during a drunken
visit to Las Vegas. 3. They have a baby, Emma.
The downs:
1. Ross sleeps with another woman after an argument with Rachel because, as he
explains in what would become one of the show's most famous lines, "We were on
a break!" 2. They tie the knot during a drunken visit to Las Vegas — and it
is annulled. 3. He accidentally utters true love Rachel's name during his
wedding to Emily. 4. Rachel hooks up with Joey.
So here's to a happy ending for Ross and Rachel — and the stars who brought
them to life!
David Schwimmer
David Schwimmer gave "Friends" little chance of becoming a hit when he shot the
pilot.
The guy who made viewers root for Ross Eustace Geller thought he'd be lucky if
it even lasted until the end of the season.
"I had done some bad movies, a couple of small TV parts and a failed series,"
says the 37-year-old star. "So I figured this show was just a temporary thing.
"I was sleeping on a futon in a friend's living room for two months before the
pilot. I never thought it would be this big. In fact, none of us did. It was
instant chemistry."
Schwimmer was even more shocked that he became an unlikely sex symbol.
"I never felt good enough or good-looking enough there," he says of his days at
Beverly Hills High School, where he was the self-confessed class clown, always
in trouble.
"I was chubby and a nerd," he recalls.
While it was soon obvious the series had staying power, Ross' high-strung pet
monkey, Marcel, wasn't so lucky — he got the boot after the first season.
"Either the monkey goes or I do," Schwimmer told the producers, who wrote the
primate out by sending him off to the San Diego Zoo.
Schwimmer is often credited by his cast mates as the brains behind their
one-for-all, all-for-one approach to dealing with the brass, especially when it
came to salary negotiations.
"If some idea came down, like 'Will you guys do this one thing?' then, as a
group we would go in a room, privately talk about it, debate the pros and cons,
and then decide," Schwimmer says.
"Luckily, that stuck...
"But I didn't realize the power it would eventually wield us in terms of our
negotiations," adds the actor, whose parents are lawyers.
In the last two seasons of "Friends," each of the stars earned more than $1
million per episode.
On the show, Schwimmer's character made three trips to the altar, but in real
life, the actor is in no rush to wear a wedding ring.
"I believe love at first sight is possible, yes," Schwimmer says. "But for me,
real love takes a little more time."
During "Friends," he's had a string of romances, including with Australian
singer Natalie Imbruglia and Israeli actress Mili Avital.
Still, Schwimmer — who lives alone in an $8 million Georgian-style mansion in
Beverly Hills — has high hopes of finding Ms. Right.
"I think it will be the biggest decision of my entire life," he says of
settling down.
"My parents are still happily married, and that proves to me that it can last
forever.
"It's important for me to be a father, have a healthy family life and be happy.
I'm just an old-fashioned guy."
Schwimmer — who had a recurring role on last season's "Curb Your Enthusiasm"
— has starred in a string of film flops since shooting to fame in "Friends."
But he's hoping that will all change with his next movie "Duane Hopwood,"
co-starring Janeane Garofalo.
The 6-foot-2 actor will also be directing some episodes of the "Friends"
spinoff "Joey," starring Matt LeBlanc. And he's currently directing
"Americana," a pilot for NBC starring Alyson Hannigan.
Schwimmer's Favorite Episode: "The One With the Prom Video" (Season 2). "It's
the whole history of the origins of the relationship between Ross and Rachel,"
he says.
Jennifer Aniston
From the moment she was cast as reformed spoiled little rich girl Rachel,
Jennifer Aniston instantly hit it off with the actors who would become her best
"Friends." But she did have a few reservations about Matt LeBlanc.
"I always laugh at our past because I used to be terrified of him," says
Aniston. "He was leather, head to toe — one of those guys. And all you're
thinking is, 'Oh, he's going to try to get me into bed. I can just see it a
mile away.'
"Then he turned out to be the sweetest, most lovable man," she adds. "I just
love him. He's a brother."
When "Friends" first hit the air, Aniston — the daughter of legendary soap
star John Aniston — was hot and heavy with actor Tate Donovan, who now stars
on "The O.C."
They eventually split, but heartache turned to happiness when Aniston met and
fell in love with box-office heartthrob Brad Pitt, now 40.
Their July 2000 wedding sealed their status as a Hollywood supercouple, and
with her series behind her, they're focusing on having a baby.
"We're absolutely in the process," Aniston, 35, says of impending parenthood.
"It's where we're headed."
The one place they're not headed, at least for now, is a movie starring the two
of them. (Do Bennifer and "Gigli" ring any bells?)
"You look at past case studies of couples working together in films, and the
odds are really against us," Pitt says.
His wife echoes the sentiment: "We wouldn't want to go out there with
bull's-eyes on our heads."
For the time being, they'll have to settle for their memories of Pitt's
guest-starring role on "Friends."
In the Season 8 episode, "The One with the Rumor," Pitt played an old
high-school pal who shared a teenage weight problem with Monica. He wasn't
exactly a member of Rachel's fan club.
"We had so much fun doing that show, and it was fun for me to have him come
into my world and see what this was all about," Aniston says.
"And he so admired it, and it was great. But boy, I've never seen anybody so
nervous."
Another "Friends" memory she still can't get out of her head is the craze her
shaggy "Rachel" haircut sparked in 1994.
The irony, she says, is that her hair — which she describes as "too fuzzy,
too kinky" — "was always like a thorn in my side." Of the six "Friends"
stars, Aniston has had the most successful big-screen career, including the
recent hit comedy "Along Came Polly," with Ben Stiller.
Her per-flick asking price is reportedly expected to double from $5 million to
$10 million.
She hopes to continue that track record with two upcoming movies — a remake
of the 1966 British movie "Gambit" and a project inspired by the 1967 classic
"The Graduate."
In between, she'll continue to make time for her "Friends."
"Every single person in this cast is my family," she says.
"They're not leaving my life — there's just no way."
Aniston's Favorite Episode: "The One Where Rachel Has a Baby" (Season 8), which
she calls "powerful" and "just funny."

And not one of them is any more or less qualified to be talking about
foreign policy or politics than Sean Penn or Janeane Garofalo. The only
difference between Rush Limbaugh and, say, Susan Sarandon, is that the
"official" political pundits like Rush have this God granted, unearned
mantle of expertise. Rush went from being an account executive for The
Kansas City Royals (Try getting a job like that without serious family
connections, BTW) to a politics expert almost overnight without ever
spending a minute in a political science class. Apparently as long as you're
a conservative you don't need any qualifications at all. Two of
conservatism's leading lights are George W Bush and Ah-nold and neither of
them can even speak properly, much less talk to William F Buckley at length
about anything complicated. I think Ann Coulter is a constitutional lawyer,
which makes her eminently qualified to talk about the Warren Court or
Lincoln and Habeus Corpus, but if you want to talk about Iraq, in terms of
actual qualifications, Coulter is about on par with Ed Asner. Or any of us.

At last, a place where Celebrity Idiots and
Hollywood Halfwits can let their hair down
and confess.
If you are a movie star, rock star, singer, musician, or
otherwise involved in the entertainment media, or, your
name is Paris Hilton, there is now a web page where you
can confess that you are really only an ignorant jackass celebrity,
do it here: http://www.quicktopic.com/27/H/AvjnqL87f5bnQ
I propose the following named celebs confess immediately (partial list):
Bono
Bruce Springsteen
Natalie Maynes
Janeane Garofalo
Barbra Streisand
Sharon Stone
Susan Sarandon
Cher
Martin Sheen
Alec Baldwin
Sean Penn
Bill Maher
I have inspected the dossiers of the above listed suspects,
and have confirmed they are genuine nincompoops, not
just ordinary celebrity idiots.
I have to hurry my review of all the celebrity dossiers,
before they move to Canada or Europe.
There remain thousands of media and journalist dossiers to review.
Confession will do all of them good.
Media journalists including Dan Rather, Pinch Sulzberger,
Katie Couric and Peter Jennings also invited.

-
Part of a review from "The Advocate," by Alonso Duralde. He makes the
point a little better than I do.
"What is upsetting [about "Team America"] is how wishy-washy Team
America's satire becomes when it deals with American foreign policy.
Sure, the film says, America blunders around like a bull in the
world's china shop, but at least we're better than those awful
terrorists. Perhaps, but 'better' doesn't absolve that policy from
questioning and scrutiny. Just ask the prisoners at Abu Ghraib. The
movie mocks jingoism (the team's theme song is 'America, F**k Yeah!')
and celebrates it at the same time—Parker and Stone want to portray
America as both flawed and blameless, and that just doesn't work,
especially given the naked anger they keep showing toward "pussy"
Hollywood liberals. (Right-leaning stars like Bruce Willis and Britney
Spears aren't mentioned here. Neither, for that matter, is George W.
Bush.) They conveniently forget there's no difference between Penn's
right to travel to Iraq or Janeane Garofalo's right to talk about Iraq
on CNN and their own right to make a puppet movie in which Michael
Moore is a terrorist, Matt Damon is retarded, and the ends justify the
means of American foreign policy.
"Maybe I'm taking a movie with explicit puppet sex (and puppet
vomiting) too seriously. And there are plenty of laughs to be had
here, politically incorrect and otherwise. But Hollywood players
Parker and Stone are being disingenuous at the very least when they
make a political satire that bashes Hollywood players for being
political."

You heard wrong. They slam everyone who appears in the movie. All three
sides.

I guess you can't stand any dissent aimed at your socialist utopia.

Team America is the funniest movie I've seen in years. Precisely because it
does slam everybody, on all sides, equally. You're the punch line to a
number of their jokes.

Bwah. As a ex-catholic and an atheist I can only laugh and shake my
head. Sinead is a ridiculous, self-absorbed kook and what you said in
the paragraph above bears little relation to life in America as I know
it. Where do you live anyway? The Ozarks?

Do you really think that Stone and Parker *actually* believe this?
Look at South Park, Orgazmo, Packer. They are perhaps the least
sincere filmmakers imaginable.
The movie is not about terrorism, but about Jerry Bruckheimer films,
explicitly attacking that producer, and, implicitly, the moronic
mainstream action-film mentality -- the kind that is likely to think
that moderately left-wing celebrities are enemies of America.

- "A lot of the hate mail I get is clearly misogynist. I am a proud liberal, feminst woman, and the hate mail I get about those three things is not about me. It's about those signifers, and about what the right in this country has managed to do to perpetuate anger over what they mean."
- "You know what is good about these Dixie Chicks burnings or bashings? It's a wonderful, wonderful way for really stupid people to hook up. They meet, they throw some things on the fire, they talk about Vin Diesel, they tell stories about who their favorite Fox anchor is, they exchange phone numbers and in some cases has led to marriages."
- "Our country is founded on a sham: our forefathers were slave-owning rich white guys who wanted it their way. So W_hen I see the American flag, I go, 'Oh my God, you're insulting me.' That you can have a gay parade on Christopher Street in New York, with naked men and women on a float cheering, 'We're here, we're queer!' -- that's what makes my heart swell. Not the flag, but a gay naked man or woman burning the flag. I get choked up with pride."

Being popular and well liked is not in your best interest. Let me be more clear; if you behave in a manner pleasing to most, then you are probably doing something wrong. The masses have never been arbiters of the sublime, and they often fail to recognize the truly great individual.
