They should have done what Jodie Foster did -- develope their own
material. I hate when actresses bitch about no role for women over 40
-- and yet they do nothing to actually FIND the roles! The men like
George Clooney and Sean Penn are getting older too but they are
creating their own work. Clooney even said that's the whole reason he
got into directing - because he knew he wouldn't get work as he ages.
So Meg really only has herself to blame.
Although I do think she gets more of a bum wrap for the divorce that
she deserves. Everyone knows that Denis cheated throughout his
marriage.
As far as Crowe, I'm surprised he sounds a little bitter about it. But
his bad guy image is ALL about his temper, not Meg.

Spike Lee on the set of his tense hostage drama Inside Man.
Photo: David Lee
March 31, 2006
Spike Lee has no problem calling Jodie Foster the
c-word. He just has problems talking in general, Katrina Lobley reports.
Spike Lee is a man of few words. This makes him an actor's dream. He doesn't
stand around overanalysing the . He doesn't stop for lunch. He gets on
with the job and everyone goes home at 6pm. This is all well and good.
Off set, this means talking to Lee is hard work.
The Malcolm X director has made a big change in direction to make the bank
heist-thriller Inside Man. The first hint our chat won't be easy comes when
the film's Sydney publicist is asked if the phone interview with Lee, who is
in Berlin, will be the standard 20 minutes.
"Yes," she says, "but Spike is quite economical with his words. I think
you'll find that 20 minutes is enough."
This is publicist-speak for "hold on tight". The alarm bells are ringing
louder when the American publicist gets on the line to put Lee through:
"You've got 15 to 17 minutes, but take your time - Spike's a great
interview."
There is a lot to ask Lee, even ignoring his outstanding career. Inside Man
has a stellar cast: long-time Lee collaborator Denzel Washington, Clive
Owen, Jodie Foster, Willem Dafoe, Christopher Plummer and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Lee has directed an unusually gripping take on the genre.
Owen plays the mastermind who leads three cohorts into the lobby of a
Manhattan bank, where they hold 50 customers and staff hostage. Washington
is a detective who must fix the situation while the stink of a recent
scandal still clings to him. Foster dons a power suit and stilettos to play
the powerbroker brought in to rescue the contents of one particular safety
deposit box.
One of the most surprising moments in Inside Man is when Foster's character
is called "a magnificent c---". Was Lee being deliberately provocative using
that language?
"It was the character, it was in the ," Lee says. "We asked Jodie if
she had any problems [with it] and she said no. We asked the actor if he had
any problems saying it and he said no. We put it in."
It turns out to be the longest answer Lee will give.
Owen almost turned down the part of the robber Dalton Russell because his
face would be obscured most of the time by a hood, sunglasses and a mask.
How did Lee convince him to take the part?
"It really came down to trust. I just had to assure him that it would all
work out in the end and he would be all right."
Was it difficult for Owen to act, when no one can see his expressions?
"It was very difficult as an actor but we just shot him as if the mask, you
know, wasn't on."
Lee searched for moments where he could show Owen unmasked, right?
"Yeah, we went through the and found like two or three more scenes
where he doesn't have to be masked."
At times you think you could be watching Owen's double, there's so little of
him showing. Lee laughs.
"Funny thing, he said the same thing: 'You don't need me, get my double.' "
It has been reported that Lee persuaded Owen to take the job at a basketball
game.
"Yeah, we went to a Knicks game."
Is Owen much of a basketball fan?
"He's a big sports fan in general."
Uh-huh. Lee is a renowned sports fanatic, peppering his films with sports
references - the Yankees get a mention in Inside Man. Maybe sport will get
Lee talking. He once said sport is simply another type of theatre.
"It's funny that actors want to be singers or rappers or athletes, and the
athletes want to be rappers or singers. It's all entertainment."
Has he always loved sport? "Yes, yes, from a very young age."
Did he want to be an athlete? "Yes, but that was early on and I got rid of
that notion quick."
What did he want to play? "Baseball."
Is baseball his first love? "No, I like 'em all: baseball, football,
basketball."
This is going nowhere fast. It has taken 57 questions to hit the 17-minute
mark, an average of 18 seconds for each cycle of question, answer and pause.
The pauses don't work to draw any more out of Lee. He simply lets them be.
Blow the whistle. Let's call full-time.

I don't think it's a SWIPE at the fans to say that she puts family
before attenidng the Oscars. Now, if there were a celebration on her
behalf and she renegged at the last minute, THAT would be a swipe. If
she slagged on her fans directly, then that would be bad. But this is
much ado about nothing and it reeks of an anti-Foster looking for an
excuse to bash her.

Why Jodie Foster'>Jodie Foster avoids the Oscars
March 27, 2006
While Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts and Charlize Theron were navigating the red
carpet crowd in high heels at the recent Academy Awards, Jodie Foster'>Jodie Foster was at
home in New York in her pyjamas.
Sitting with Foster on the couch were her two sons, Charles, 7, and
Christopher, 4.
In what has become a tradition for the Foster family, Chinese food is
ordered in and a noisy chanting ritual begins.
Foster, as a member of the Academy and a two-time best actress Oscar winner,
could don the gown and jewellery and attend Hollywood's night of nights each
year, but an evening in with takeaway, her kids and pyjamas is far more
appealing for the 43-year-old, who began acting at the age of three.
"Why not go?" Foster asks. "You have to be kidding.
"Sometimes I go when I'm not involved, but it's a lot better to watch it on
TV."
Besides, the Academy probably would not allow Foster and her kids to make
their noisy chants if they were sitting front row in the Kodak Theatre.
"In the early part of the show I always get my kids to chant the actor whom
I want to win," Foster, who is usually guarded about her home life, said.
"My sons don't see any movies so they don't care who wins.
"So they were like 'Rachel Weisz, Rachel Weisz'."
The chanting helped because Weisz did win the best supporting actress Oscar
for The Constant Gardener.
Foster would not reveal her other picks, giving a sarcastic "no comment",
but believes her good friend, Russell Crowe, deserved at least a nomination
for his performance in Cinderella Man.
Foster rated Crowe's snubbed portrayal of heavyweight 1930s boxer James
Braddock as better than his Oscar win for Gladiator in 2001 and his
nominated roles for The Insider (2000) and A Beautiful Mind (2002).
"Russell, I think, it was a better performance than what he has ever given,"
said Foster, who won her Oscars for The Accused (1989) and The Silence of
the Lambs (1992).
Foster may not be able to stay home for next year's Academy Awards ceremony
as she could be nominated for a startling performance in the new Spike Lee
directed action thriller, Inside Man.
Foster's Inside Man co-stars are Denzel Washington and Clive Owen and she
appears in probably fewer than 10 scenes, but The Los Angeles Times in its
recent review dubbed her performance as "picture stealing" and her character
as "the ultimate ice-princess power broker in a city of power brokers".
Inside Man is set in New York and Foster plays Madeline White, a mysterious
designer suit-wearing troubleshooter.
The billionaire owner of a Wall Street bank, played by Christopher Plummer,
hires her when a gang of bandits, led by Owen's character, takes over the
bank and holds 50 employees and customers hostage.
The bank's owner has a secret hidden in the bank's safe and wants it kept
that way and White coolly weaves her way into the drama, making deals with
the NYPD negotiator (Washington) and the bank robbers.
"I liked the idea she was somebody who held equal weight and power with
these other two men who are inhabiting this very masculine, powerful world,"
Foster said.
"They have guns, masks and beards, but she holds equal weight to them
without ever raising her voice, always saying please and thank you and with
a breezy, detached, amused quality because she's been through this before.
"She's been through it 20 times, but the two guys have only done it once."
Troubleshooters such as Madeline White exist, especially in Hollywood and
Washington, DC, she says.
"They clean up dirty laundry," Foster said.
"You call them to deal with a scandal.
"In Washington, the world of politics, we know there are people like this,
although, I don't know anyone who dresses like that.
"I love that she lives on Madison Avenue, she goes to the Hamptons on the
weekend, gets her hair bleached, fake tan, has the shoes and has her own
richly independent identity in this world of very macho guys."
Foster fans can expect to see plenty more of the actress in coming years
after she worked only sparingly while raising Charles and Christopher.
"My kids are at the age now where they are both in school," Foster, who
reportedly has been in a long-term relationship with producer Cydney
Bernard, explained.
Foster will soon begin shooting The Brave One, co-starring Terrence Howard,
in which she will play a woman seeking revenge from a brutal attack.
In 2007 she will direct and star alongside Robert De Niro in the legal
drama, Sugarland.
It will be a busy two years, but Foster says her kids remain her No. 1
priority.
"If I get to 7pm or 8pm and the director says 'wrap', I'm gone. I'm straight
home," she said.

Foster sorry for young actors
25/03/2006 - 09:49:22
Double Oscar winner Jodie Foster pities young actors today because they are
"eaten up" by the media before they have a chance to prove themselves.
The 43-year-old Silence Of The Lambs star, who began acting at the age of
three, insists young stars are burned out by fame and high expectations
before they even hit the big time.
She says of her generation: "You were able to build a body of work, so that
by the time you turned 25 or 26 you actually had done something; you weren't
just eaten up by the system."
-
yeah, what the fuck is with directors getting a hold of her and cutting off
all her goddamn hair? why in the hell do they think this is attractive?
Closer was ruined by the simple fact that her beautiful dark locks were
chopped off. she looked fucking amazing in garden state, but now... V.
I'm not even going to see the goddamn movie! the director of "v" should

for the next 2 years until her hair grows back to an acceptable length for a
woman.
what kind of guy wants to cut a beautiful girl's hair off making her look

Jodie Fostering strength
By STEVE TILLEY -- Toronto Sun
Jodie Foster stars as iron-willed Madeline White in Inside Man, main.
Hollywood only took notice of her when she starred in Taxi Driver.
NEW YORK -- Jodie Foster has finally figured out what her weakness is: She
doesn't have one.
Simply put, Foster is a two-time Oscar winner with a damsel in
distress-sized hole in her resume that will never be filled.
She doesn't have a clue how to play a powerless female, and she doesn't have
much interest in learning.
"I do tend to play strong women," says Foster, who continues that tradition
by portraying an above-the-law "fixer" in director Spike Lee's bank heist
thriller Inside Man, opening in theatres Friday.
"I've played different kinds of strong women," Foster says during a recent
interview for the film. "I've played morally bankrupt strong women, I've
played good girls, I've played straight-laced straight arrows, I've played
wild women. Yet they're always strong.
"Sometimes I feel like that's my Achilles heel as an actor. I don't really
know how to play weak characters. If I played a weak character, I don't
think you'd believe me."
Foster is all too believable as Inside Man's icy and iron-willed Madeline
White, a woman who knows where the bodies are buried and isn't afraid to use
that information to benefit her high-paying, anonymity-seeking clientele.
"She's been in these dangerous situations where you have two dead hookers
and a mayor," Foster says, likening her character to an exaggerated,
corporate-world version of legendary Hollywood publicist Pat Kingsley, the
image shaper who has represented clients ranging from Tom Cruise to Courtney
Love to Foster herself.
"The vault that (Kingsley) is ... I mean, if anything that's in her memory
or in her head ever came out, the world would probably implode."
And some of that implosion would likely involve Foster, who deftly avoids
scrutiny of her social life. She's never revealed the identity of the father
(or fathers) of her two sons, and has never addressed rumours about her
sexual orientation.
Yet she is unfailingly warm, polite and articulate, even when it comes to
defending her last starring role, 2005's Flightplan. A box-office success
with a worldwide take of over $200 million, Flightplan was carved by critics
who felt the film's premise crashed and burned in the third act.
"I'm really proud of Flightplan," Foster says. "It's is not an art house
film , it is a genre movie, and I make no apologies for that. I really feel
like that character was beautifully drawn, truthfully drawn, and I'm really
proud of that as an actor. I killed myself for that movie."
Foster's next two films are Neil Jordan's revenge thriller The Brave One,
opposite Hustle & Flow's Terrence Howard, and the socially conscious
Sugarland, which she will direct and co-star in opposite Robert De Niro.
That will lift her career tally to something in the ballpark of 50 movies
and dozens of TV appearances, though Hollywood only truly woke up to
Foster's talents after her Oscar-nominated turn as a teenaged hooker in
1976's Taxi Driver. That was also the year Foster did the Disney
identity-swap comedy Freaky Friday, which was remade in 2003 with Lindsay
Lohan in the Foster role. And oh, how the times have changed.
"In my time, 18-year-olds could do stupid things and not necessarily be on
Access Hollywood the next day," Foster says, lamenting the voracious public
and media appetite that dogs young stars like Lohan today.
"You can't have a young life and be an actor anymore, and that's a shame.
Because there's a lot of value to those years when you do dumb things and
make mistakes and you have experiences that you don't necessarily want
everyone to know about."
Foster says she was lucky: When she was growing up in the business, she had
people who cared about her watching out for her best interests, and the
scrutiny of young stars was nothing like what it is today.
"There was a kind of privacy that you had in your life, and I think the
media had a lot of respect for the adolescent years," she says.
Foster's 40 years in the biz have taught her how to play the Hollywood game,
and how to separate her work from her life. She doesn't begrudge her fame,
but she doesn't enjoy it, either.
"I'm trying to think of one good thing about fame, but I can't," she says.
"Respect is good and accolades are good and doing work you love is good. But
there really isn't one good part of fame."

I totally disagree, I think she's very sexy and sensual. But I like
smart, and she's obviously a smart and passionate woman.

After she shaved her head and filming for the movie was over she grew a
mohawk...seriously. After awhile she got rid of the mohawk and let her hair
grow out,

Seriously, though....I think she is one of the most sexless women out
there. Sure, she's very pretty, but there is nothing about her that
oozes charm, sexuality or allure. She's just SO BLAH.

She's not that pretty. I've seen her in real life, several times. She may
photograph well, but she's very short, has a wide, flat ass, and your basic
uptight "Long Island valedictorian" mug. Yuck.

Her hair's growing out after she shaved it for V for Vendetta.
