LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The stars of FX's drama "Nip/Tuck"
are getting bonuses just in time for the start of production on the
Golden Globe-winning series' third season.
Sources said Julian McMahon and Dylan Walsh have each received a
paycheck in the $280,000-$320,000 range, with FX providing most of the
money and producer Warner Bros. Television contributing a small
portion.
Both FX and WBTV declined comment on the matter Friday, while the
actors' reps either declined comment or didn't return calls. Production
on the third season begins Monday.
Talks between the actors, who are locked under multiyear deals, the
network and the studio about a possible salary bump had been going on
for months.
The lump-sum bonuses would beef up McMahon and Walsh's per-episode fees
to more than $60,000, according to sources. Co-star Joely Richardson is
also said to have received a bonus going into the third season, which
starts production today.
While actors sign long-term series deals when they are cast in pilots,
it is customary for the cast members on a hit show to renegotiate their
deals after the first two seasons and receive a salary increase.
Getting bonus checks instead of per-episode fee bump increases is more
unusual. Most recently, the principal cast members of ABC's red-hot
freshman dramedy "Desperate Housewives" were each given a bonus
reported to be about $250,000 four months into the run of the show.
Separately, Rhona Mitra is joining the cast of "Nip/Tuck" as a
recurring character.
Details about her character are being kept under wraps, but sources
said Mitra will play a gorgeous and tough New York detective who comes
to Miami to investigate the attack against Dr. Christian Troy
(McMahon).
Mitra most recently co-starred as Tara Wilson on the final season of
David E. Kelley's legal drama for ABC "The Practice" and the first
season of its spinoff, "Boston Legal."

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Former Bond Girl Famke Janssen, a woman rarely
accused of needing cosmetic surgery, will join the cast of FX's "Nip/Tuck"
during the show's upcoming season.
Jansen will first appear in the third episode of the show's 16-episode second
season. She has signed on for 12 episodes playing a woman who becomes a "life
coach" to Joely Richardson's character, Julia McNamara. Naturally, before too
long she begins to stir up trouble.
This will be Janssen's first regular series work, though the actress has made
appearances on shows including "Ally McBeal" and "Melrose Place." In addition
to her performance as Xenia Onatopp in "GoldenEye," Janssen played Jean Grey in
both "X-Men" films.
Basic cable's most watched new show of 2003, "Nip/Tuck" also earned a degree of
critical acclaim, picking up a Golden Globe nomination for outstanding drama
series, while Richardson was nominated for best actress.
Richardson and stars Dylan Walsh and Julian McMahon return for the second
season of "Nip/Tuck" on Tuesday, June 22 at 10 p.m. ET.

By Kate O'Hare
It's Friday the 13th, and "Nip/Tuck" star Dylan Walsh looks like a man having a
very bad day. After arriving for work in the afternoon, he vanishes for a
while, only to emerge with a slash wound that runs from the right corner of his
mouth up his cheek.
While the startlingly real makeup job might freak out many actors, for Walsh,
it's just another day on the job of the FX drama about Miami plastic surgeons
(even if it does mean that dinner will probably be some form of liquid).
The show closes its second season Tuesday, Oct. 5, with guest stars Joan Rivers
(as herself) and Alec Baldwin. A third season is just about a sure bet,
although no formal announcement has been made.
"It's weird," Walsh says, wearing a hospital gown as he waits in his trailer.
"I'm so used to looking at people like this every day on the job. It's like a
freak show, one weird thing after another. We've had several people with this
particular thing, so you get used to it."
Walsh's character, Dr. Sean McNamara, is awaiting surgery -- by a guest surgeon
(Bruno Campos), not his partner, Dr. Christian Troy (Julian McMahon) -- to
repair the damage done by a serial slasher-rapist who has sent other victims to
the McNamara/Troy practice. Earlier in the season, Christian had surgery
himself to repair damage to his nose caused during an intimate moment gone
wrong.
Both incidents are emblematic of a season in which the partners, both of whom
have just turned 40, have found the focus shifting from patients onto
themselves.
"This year was turning around on us," Walsh says, "and letting us go through
some of the things that we did to people last year."
Along with going under the knife, the two surgeons have also seen their lives
opened up, as a long-ago, secret affair between Christian and Sean's wife,
Julia (Joely Richardson), was revealed, along with the shocking news that it is
Christian, not Sean, who is the father of teenager Matt McNamara (John
Hensley).
Despite all the soap-opera histrionics, Sean and Christian end the season still
unable to live without each other. Even when Sean punches Christian in the nose
in a rage, he still says, "I loved you the most."
As dramatic as this all is on screen, on set, it's another matter.
"This was one of those things where it's one o'clock in the morning, and Dylan
had that one line," McMahon says. "It's the only real time we saw each other in
the whole episode, except for right at the beginning. I grabbed him, and I said
-- talk about putting pressure on your co-star -- I go, 'This is the show.' He
got so mad. I said, 'You get this right, this is the whole show.'
"In a way, it's not wrong. There are many other things, but particularly the
relationship of these two men."
Walsh adds, "Ryan (series creator Ryan Murphy) always said he wanted to write a
love story about two heterosexual men."
A critical and commercial success, "Nip/Tuck" juggles an incendiary mix of
hyperbolic plot twists, interesting guest stars (this year's included Famke
Janssen, Aisha Tyler, Jill Clayburgh and Richardson's mother, Vanessa
Redgrave), steamy (bordering on soft-core) sex scenes, dark humor, social
commentary and graphic depictions of surgery. But, says Murphy, all of that
would be worthless if the characters lost their humanity - and that's what
Murphy doesn't see in many of the reality shows dealing with plastic surgery.
"It's not that interesting," he says, "because the people are all vain and
terrible. There are no real, heart-tugging cases that I've seen, and that's
what you need to get people invested. You need compassion, and you need heart,
because without that, plastic surgery's pretty much hollow and hideous."
From the amount of fan debate on the Internet over the motivations and
personalities of the characters, Murphy seems to have struck a nerve.
"It's almost like audience participation," McMahon says. "You really get
involved in it, and you stick up for the people that you like. That's been a
great trademark of Christian. Because, although he started out as such a rogue
and arrogant, he was the bastard, there have always been those moments where
you go, 'Oh, God, I really like him.' You get absorbed by him, and that's an
important part of what makes people come back."
Turns out it's the same for the actors as well, and that came to the fore when
Matt's paternity was revealed -- something the actors didn't know from the
beginning of the show (even though Murphy said he did).
"Actors joke about it all the time," Walsh says, "and it sounds so ridiculous
to the public, but you invest, in some psychological level, in these
relationships. Julian and I are very good friends, and we see each other
outside the set, but I don't see Joely except here.
"Yet, when we walk on that set, we're like husband and wife. In a place in my
head and my heart, she's one of my wives, and Matt's one of my kids."
So, in a way, both Sean and Walsh lost a son.
"Last year," Walsh says, "I would have been surprised at this information,
which was smart on the part of Ryan. It was strange. It upset some things here,
not in a bad way. But we were a little bewildered, and it may take a while for
the pieces to settle, which is exactly what's going on in the show."
If "Nip/Tuck" seems groundbreaking and fearless, look to Murphy.
"I don't know if I'm given more creative leeway," he says, "or that I take it.
I think it's the latter. I take it. I'm a really good fighter."

HOLLYWOOD, Calif - "Home Alone" star Macaulay Culkin has signed a deal with
NBC to develop several projects, including a possible sitcom in fall 2004,
according to Variety.
Culkin has met with "Late Night" host Conan O'Brien (news - Y! TV) and may work
on a project with him, NBC spokesman Kevin Reilly told the trade paper.
"We're going to use him in an unconventional way," Reilly told Variety. "I
don't think you'll see Macaulay as a straight-down-the-middle romantic lead. I
think you'll see him in something surprising, a little offbeat."
Reilly said Culkin has "always had uncanny instincts" as an actor, and a guest
spot last season on NBC's "Will & Grace" reinforced that point.
"He came out and just did a great turn on that show," Reilly said. "He reminded
everyone here that he possesses genuine talent. There are certain child stars
who figure out how to translate that talent to adulthood, and I think
Macaulay's been waiting for the right time to come back and re-emerge as a
star."
Earlier this year Culkin starred in the independent film "Party Monster." He
also appeared onstage in Richard Nelson's "Madame Melville," starring with
Irene Jacob in London and Joely Richardson on Broadway, and will appear in
United Artists' upcoming "Saved" opposite Jena Malone and Mandy Moore .

: I have no problem at all with Audrey Hepburn ranking #1. But how does
: Marilyn Monroe rank both #27 and #36? And Ginger Rogers more beautiful
: than Sophia Loren???? Pshaw!

And Liv Tyler number 2? I wouldn't put Audrey Hepburn as number one, I've
always thought of her more as cute than beautiful. And Catherine Deneuve
is 76 while Jerry Hall is number 40!! And Elizabeth Taylor is a no-show, wow!

Kate is Jude's squeeze
by BAZ BAMIGBOYE, Daily Mail
08:56am 14th January 2005
Kate Winslet is set to fall deeply in love with Jude Law, but only on
screen. Two of Britain's biggest stars are to appear alongside Sean Penn in
All The King's Men, a movie about a corrupt American governor.
Kate told me that she plays a character who falls for the guy Jude plays.
"They were very much in love as youngsters and now she comes back into his
life to see what happens," says Kate, who has been having voice coaching to
help her perfect a Southern accent.
"When you're offered a great , plus the chance to work with Sean and
Jude, you don't say 'No'."
The actress joins the cast next month in New Orleans on the film, which is a
re-working of the classic by Broderick Crawford.
On Sunday, she'll be at the Golden Globes, where she's a contender in the
best comedy actress category for her role in Eternal Sunshine Of The
Spotless Mind.
When the Oscar nominations come out on January 25, she could find herself
with nominations as best actress for Eternal Sunshine and best supporting
actress for Finding Neverland.
At the Globes on Sunday, Kate joins a large contingent of British artists,
including best actress front-runner Imelda Staunton. On Wednesday, Imelda
was in Kilburn's Tricycle Cinema answering questions about working with Mike
Leigh on Vera Drake, but tomorrow she'll be on a plane to LA.
Clive Owen and Joely Richardson are among other British names who will be
attending the Globes.
And Andrew Lloyd Webber is up against Mick Jagger and Dave Stewart for best
song: Lloyd Webber for Phantom Of The Opera and the rock stars for Closer.

Cutting edge
December 20, 2004
Nip/Tuck's ageing plastic surgeons face midlife crises. Melanie McFarland
reports.
We all have our addictions, be they innocent or destructive. And all excess
can be extremely harmful if indulged in regularly, as Miami plastic surgeons
Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) and Christian Troy (Julian McMahon) found out at
the end of Nip/Tuck's first season.
After 13 episodes of abusing the power that comes with cutting their
patients' insecurities out of their flesh, the doctors found themselves
under a drug dealer's heel, removing implants filled with heroin from
overstuffed breasts.
As luck, pluck and a turn of events you'd encounter only on TV would have
it, the bad guy needed a new face. So they sculpted him to look like another
criminal on the FBI's most wanted list, orchestrating his arrest when he
tried to flee the country. And, with that, their troubles vanished.
Well, not quite. McNamara and Troy remain accessories to murder. Troy's
unchained libido, among other extracurricular activities, could bring on
several malpractice suits. McNamara's damaged marriage remains in precarious
territory. His kid, Matt (John Hensley), has some moral cheques that haven't
quite cleared, and his wife, Julia (Joely Richardson), appears to be
harbouring a secret about Matt's paternity.
Even so, many of the worries of the outside world have been brushed aside
and season two premieres tonight on Nine. Their business competition has
been eliminated, the practice is booming, Troy is a father, of sorts, and
Julia has taken back McNamara.
Indeed, the only spectre troubling these successful dealers of physical
perfection is the one thing they can't lift or tighten: the psychological
ramifications of ageing. McNamara and Troy are both turning 40, and no
matter how many litres of Botox Troy pumps into his brow, the world can
tell. His once-surefire pick-up technique isn't what it used to be.
McNamara's birthday weighs more heavily and his midlife crisis threatens his
career. And there may be a significant infusion of drama in the new series,
thanks to the arrival of Julia's demonic, facelift-seeking mother, Erica
Noughton (played by Richardson's mother, Vanessa Redgrave).
But all the juicy drama in the world won't numb you to the graphic surgical
procedures, that appear like blood splotches on each episode's glamorous
weave. Those horrifying scenes on the table show how ugly elective surgery
can be. But you have to wonder how well the show's creator, Ryan Murphy, can
turn the gaze from the skin-deep horrors into the characters' dingy interior
spaces.
There's a lot to work with in that department. McNamara's story is tailored
to make audiences utter ominous "uh-ohs" as the season wears on, whereas
Troy, the creep of the pair, tries to figure out what it means to be a
father, especially to a kid who isn't his own and whose mother is a
psychopath.
Skin deep? A tad predictable? Certainly. But Nip/Tuck is nonetheless a TV
addiction. We watch, mesmerised by the series' cool surface appeal and the
nasty ooze pulsating beneath, and, in the end, we want more. It can't be
good for us.

Nip/Tuck Star Joely Richardson Scared By Real Life Surgery
December 9, 2004, 10:05:31 RICHARDSON NERVOUS ABOUT SURGERY
JOELY RICHARDSON is desperate to keep her looks fresh but fears plastic
surgery will spoil her appearance - as demonstrated by many of her acting
contemporaries.
Julian McMahon stars in Nip/Tuck the TV series about cosmetic surgery
The NIP/TUCK star, 39, is often saddened when beautiful celebrities enter
cosmetic clinics in a bid to improve their facial features, only to end up
an uglier version of their former selves.
And while Richardson refuses to rule out undergoing the knife entirely, she
dreads the prospect of losing her natural looks.
When asked if she'd contemplate surgery, she says, "The answer is, I don't
know. I've always been a bit nervous of it because when I see an actress who
I thought was absolutely gorgeous before surgery, they do look younger but
they've also had their face all blanked out - no wrinkles or anything.
"I want to say to them, 'You look strange now. You looked prettier before,
even with a few imperfections. I don't know though, I'm starting to get
wrinkles and I don't like it."

If he admits to 27 he's probably more like 30. These days most actors
start lying about their age from the beginning.

NIP/TUCK star Joely Richardson has been spotted on dates with the actor who
plays her son.
Mum-of-one Joely, 39, and John Hensley, 27, have been seen at the cinema and
showbiz events together.
The actress, who formerly dated Jamie Theakston and Robbie Williams, had
complained she was lonely in Hollywood, where she films the plastic surgery
drama.
She split from her husband, film company boss Tim Bevan, in 1997 when he left
her for another woman.
Before that, she had an affair with Scottish landowner Archie Stirling, which
ended his marriage to actress Dame Diana Rigg.
Now friends hope love will bloom for her and John.
Joely said recently: 'I date, but I've had too much work on over the past 12
months to have a serious relationship, but I would like one.'
She also said she is too scared to marry again, adding: 'I love weddings but it
seems couples I know who aren't married stay happier because they never take
each other for granted.'
