Get set for the real me
The real Minogue ... the post-treatment photograph that her boyfriend took
revealed a relaxed and happy Kylie.

June 4, 2006
Kylie Minogue talks for the first time about life on the post-cancer
comeback trail. Pippa Smith gets the lowdown.
OF all her looks and images over the years, the one that Kylie Minogue is
sporting now - happy, relieved and in love - is the closest you will ever
get to the real woman behind the pop queen.
A year-long battle with breast cancer has stripped the Aussie star of the
glitz and glamour associated with her fame.
But after overcoming a condition that has claimed the lives of so many,
Minogue is on the verge of one of the greatest comebacks in entertainment
history - and this time it is the real her. No stylists, no gimmicks and no
hype.
Just the prospect of seeing the 38-year-old back on stage this November -
the rumoured date that she'll resume her Showgirls tour - is enough to whip
her fans into a frenzy and have the public breathe a collective sigh of
relief.
The news that the singer and actor had cancer sent fans reeling, and each
stage of her recovery has generated front-page headlines.
Now Minogue wants to make headlines again for the right reasons - as an
entertainer.
She has been back in the studio working on a new album and is desperate to
complete the Australian leg of her cancelled 2005 world tour. There is also
the prospect of marriage to the man who has stood by her through the past 12
months, Olivier Martinez.
"I'm still taking things slowly, but I've had a great week in the studio and
things couldn't be any better," Minogue says, as she gently pulls together
the fragments of a life that was shattered by the breast cancer diagnosis.
"I feel good and I can't wait to get back into the swing of things. It's
been a long, hard road to now."
Just as her hair is growing back after rounds of chemotherapy, so is the
confidence that enabled this pint-sized performer to stand in front of
thousands and sing to the masses.
That confidence in herself partly explains how Minogue has come through her
darkest hour, but she needed help from her fans, her family and her man.
Martinez has never given up on the woman he loves, despite the heartache and
turmoil of watching her fight for her life. Now, on the eve of her comeback,
he is still the rock in Minogue's life and predictions are that he will be
there for her for years to come.
Wedding rumours were flying about before Minogue's cancer diagnosis - they
are certain to be even more intense now. In fact, some are already saying
that Minogue will not only marry the 40-year-old French actor - she will do
it twice.
Wedding planners are reportedly helping the pair with arrangements for
ceremonies in France and Australia, thereby appeasing the ever-supportive
families of both stars.
Martinez has already been in Corsica scouting out the perfect venue for the
French half of the double big day.
It has taken a while for Minogue to come around to the idea of being a bride
and a wife but she celebrated her 38th birthday last Sunday and, after her
life-changing ordeal, she will probably never be readier than now.
"It seems a recent fashion to rush into marriage but that has never been for
me," she says. "I'm more traditional in that way. I don't have that sense of
urgency.
"I think it all comes from my parents. I've got an incredible family and my
parents are very happy. Their marriage is a great thing to aspire to,"
Minogue says of her slow walk towards the wedding aisle. The pop princess
has been dating gorgeous Martinez for almost four years now but has always
remained tight-lipped on matters of the heart.
"Ollie is lovely," she says of the man dubbed the French Brad Pitt. "Our
relationship has gone well from the beginning. I suppose it helps that he
understands my career.
"Relationships are wonderful but they require some work whether you're miles
away or in the same situation all the time. I'm good at communicating with
phone calls and texts. That's the key."
The distances have not been nearly as great since Minogue's cancer
diagnosis. Martinez has put his career on hold to be there for her.
"I've just been lucky," Minogue says on finding her dream man. "This
relationship was meant to be. We really have fun together."
Her chemotherapy will mean that babies are on hold for Minogue for a couple
of years but the prospect of starting a family in her 40s does not scare
her.
"Yes, I feel broody - it's only natural," says the singer who recently
became an aunty to her brother Brendan's baby boy. "It hasn't happened yet
but I hope it will some day. I do seem to have a connection with children.
"When Can't Get You Out Of My Head came out, it was such a catchy song that
a lot of parents told me the first word their child said was, 'Kylie!'
"Most of my fans want motherhood to happen for me and are really excited at
the thought, which is lovely. If and when it happens, then great. Family as
a whole is very important to me and I think I will need that more as I get
older."
Illness does not seem to have affected Minogue's appetite for life, either.
While she feels ready to settle down and start a family she has no plans on
giving up her day job.
"I have thought of retiring to a little house and giving it all up, but when
I think about it I realise I have a job that I love and I get a lot of
enjoyment from it," Minogue says.
"I want to settle down, but I've got stuff I want to do in my career, too.
"I've got so much whirring around in my mind that I don't know where to
start. It's exciting," she says.
But do not expect the colourful pop princess to be spinning around in
hotpants when she does make her triumphant return to centre stage.
"I think all of my past images, and none of them, are like me," Minogue
says.
"I've gone through a lot of changes, states of mind and different
understandings about myself."
Since emerging from Neighbours in the 1980s, Minogue has become something of
a trendsetter. All the while though she has been constantly dogged with
questions about whether she has had cosmetic surgery.
The beautiful singer has admitted in the past that the weight of expectation
of looking young and perfect was a heavy burden - one that she should now
surely be excused from.
"I'm just like any girl, and I have the same anxieties and issues," says
Minogue, who in her first official post-cancer photos looks as stunning as
ever - even with the short hair.
"Of course, it's lovely and very flattering to hear those compliments but
it's almost like being given a gift and you don't know what to do with it,"
she says.
Minogue's comeback will herald a new round of compliments but this time for
more than her beauty and talent but also for her bravery and strength.
It is a new dawn for everyone's favourite girl-next-door and no one is
keener about the future than Minogue herself.
"I always look forward," she says. "I'm not a great believer in looking
back.
"I've always lived in the moment because I know more than most how things
can suddenly drop from the sky and shake everything up. That's something
about me that has never changed."
CAREER COMEBACKS
Kirstie Alley She was America's sweetheart as Rebecca Howe in the sitcom
Cheers and had moderate success with the Look Who's Talking movies, but
Alley quickly became better known for her bulge than her acting. Then she
started to shift the weight, became a spokeswoman for Jenny Craig and wrote
and starred in a new sitcom, Fat Actress. The ubiquitous, teary Oprah
appearance followed and Alley was back on the A-list.
Teri Hatcher and Nicollette Sheridan The poster girl for comeback queens in
Hollywood, Hatcher had been on a career slide after Lois And Clark. Then
along came a little television show called Desperate Housewives and she is
again on top of the Hollywood pile. Ditto for 1980s wonder child Nicollette
Sheridan, who snapped up the role of Edie Britt that Pamela Anderson
famously turned down. She is now back with former love Michael Bolton -
enough said.
John Travolta The 1970s and 1980s were good to the smooth-moving actor with
hits such as Grease, but the 1990s not so kind and Travolta (and his agent)
would have been left wondering why he turned down the lead in An Officer and
a Gentleman. Then in 1993 he got a called from little-known director Quentin
Tarantino who wanted him for his project, Pulp Fiction, and Travolta danced
with Uma Thurman right into an Academy Award nomination.
Peter Andre It was 1996 and Andre's pop hit Mysterious Girl was No. 1 here
and in the UK. But his famed six-pack physique couldn't hold up his career.
Then he starred in the British reality television show I'm A Celebrity, Get
Me Out Of Here and struck up a romance with British model Jordan and he was
back in the news. He rereleased Mysterious Girl in 2004, which shot back to
No. 1 in the UK, married Jordan and is recording a new album.
CAREER DEATHS
Charlie Sheen His 1986 performance in Oliver Stone's Platoon was nothing
short of brilliant and Sheen was tipped to become one of the finest actors
of his generation. Now he is better known for the Heidi Fleiss callgirl
scandal, reported drug and gambling habits and a nasty split from wife
Denise Richards. He is now seen on small screens in the sitcom Two And A
Half Men and the paparazzi shots of him leaving nightclubs with Victoria's
Secret models.
Matt Le Blanc He was once our favourite Friend, but struggled to keep the
momentum going after the show finished. Le Blanc went on to star in the
sitcom spin off Joey, which failed to hit the mark and was unceremoniously
axed by American broadcaster NBC this year. He is currently out of work and
probably wondering what went wrong.
Courtney Love Fame claimed Mrs Kurt Cobain, but she slipped out of the
public eye following his tragic death. She reinvented herself as a glam rock
chick and her band, Hole, had a No. 1 album. Then came actress Courtney, and
she drew critical praise for The People Vs. Larry Flynt, but the career
comeback was damaged by stints in rehab and arrests for drug possession. It
remains to be seen if her sleek, new look and planned album will bring her
back from the brink.
Michael Jackson Where do you start with the former King of Pop? He has had
more attempted career comebacks than court appearances and his last album,
Invincible, failed to impress a public growing in suspicion of his antics.
Almost certainly beyond redemption when it comes to a career revival,
Jackson may never know when to quit.

Pop queen Kylie Minogue hopes to play at Glastonbury next year,
festival organiser Michael Eavis has revealed.
The pop star, who pulled out of last year's event following her shock
cancer diagnosis, would like to headline the next festival.
Since being forced to abandon her Showgirl tour, and her debut at
Britain's most famous music festival, Kylie has been recuperating.
But Eavis hinted that the singer could be delighting crowds again next
year.
The festival organiser and farmer, who was attending the premiere of
the Glastonbury Movie said: "I speak to her people fairly regularly -
they are hopeful.
"Kylie is coming back hopefully. Her people are quite confident. She
wants to do it.
"I do hope she is fit enough, she really wants to do it."
He added: "She doesn't fit the Glastonbury festival image with
Neighbours and all that razzmatazz, but her shows are so theatrical
they are almost like a circus in a way, which really fits in with
Glastonbury."

Pop princess KYLIE MINOGUE is set to follow in the footsteps of fellow
chart beauties JENNIFER LOPEZ, BRITNEY SPEARS and BEYONCE KNOWLES, by
launching her own fragrance.
The I BELIEVE IN YOU singer, who is currently recovering from a
battle with breast cancer, wants to expand her Love Kylie lingerie
range to include a matching scent.
A friend says, "Kylie has lots of different projects on the go and
has spent the past two months holding all sort of meetings. She knows
now she can pick and choose projects and do whatever suits her, not
what she feel obliged to do."
Minogue hopes to launch the perfume in time for Christmas (DEC06).

Minogue denies wedding plans
22/02/2006 - 08:32:40
Pop queen Kylie Minogue has denied her lover Olivier Martinez's mother's
claims they are set to marry later this year.
The Spinning Around singer insists she has no plans to wed the French actor,
despite Rosemarie Martinez's claims they will tie the knot as soon as
possible.
A spokesperson for the star says: "This is just not true."
Earlier this week Rosemarie said, "My son has promised me we will be flown
over for the big day.
"(Kylie) is making such a brave effort at recovery - we're just rejoicing
that she and my son can go ahead and make the plans they have wanted for so
long."
-
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds29338.html
Olivier Martinez's mother has let slip to New Idea magazine that her
son and Kylie Minogue have plans to marry in April.
The pair are apparently going to get hitched on French Island, just off
the coast of Melbourne in Australia.
"My son has promised we will be flown over for the big day," Mrs
Martinez is quoted as saying.
"We're just rejoicing that she and my son can now go ahead and make the
plans they've wanted to make for so long."
The wedding will, however, not take place until after the birth of
Kylie's brother's first child in April.

LATEST: Pop princess KYLIE MINOGUE is still receiving treatment for
breast cancer despite reports she has been given the all-clear,
according to her publicist.
The I BELIEVE IN YOU hitmaker was diagnosed with the disease in May
last year (05), and immediately underwent surgery to remove a lump
before beginning an intensive chemotherapy course.
And while the 37-year-old is making a positive recovery from the
disease, her treatment continues.
The singer's spokesman says, "Fortunately we are still able to say we
have received no news of a reoccurrence of the cancer. However, at this
point in time Kylie's treatments are continuing."
But despite her continuing battle, Minogue remains determined to
reschedule the Australian leg of her Showgirl tour, which she was
forced to cut short when she discovered the cancer.
The spokesman adds, "Kylie remains keen to return to work and in
particular to reschedule the Showgirl tour." (JB/WNWCCB/SH)

Kylie Minogue Sang For EltonJohns Hen Night
December 22, 2005, 6:25:33
KYLIE RECORDED MESSAGE FOR ELTON'S HEN NIGHT
Australian singer KYLIE MINOGUE performed for SIR ELTON JOHN at his
pre-wedding cabaret on Monday night (19DEC05) - despite battling breast
cancer.
The ROCKET MAN singer has criticised MADONNA for refusing to perform and
attend the bash, but SPINNING AROUND star Minogue appeared in a video
message because chemotherapy and radiation left her too weak to attend.
The 37-year-old, who was wearing a headscarf in the footage, danced to her

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Australian Pop star Kylie Minogue is hoping to
return to the concert stage by the end of 2006, about a year-and-a-half
since she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Minogue's Showgirls tour was due begin last May; tickets from those
postponed shows will be honored next year, but fans can also collect
refunds from points of purchase.
"Fans that hold onto their tickets will be part of a tour that they
won't ever forget," promoter Michael Gudinski said in a statement.
"Kylie's been thinking about these shows a lot over the past months,
and they're going to be something special."
Meanwhile, Minogue will on December 25 release a digital single
featuring a live version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "Santa
Baby." Early next month, the artist's Web site (http://www.kylie.com)
will also begin selling eight live audio tracks and three video clips
drawn from the DVD "Kylie: Showgirl -- The Greatest Hits Tour."

Kylie is coping 'gracefully' with cancer treatment
05/10/2005 - 08:27:00
Ailing pop star Kylie Minogue has been praised by her singer sister Dannii
for coping so "gracefully" with her breast cancer treatment.
The Spinning Around hitmaker, 37, was forced to cancel the Australian leg of
her Showgirl tour when she was diagnosed with the illness in May.
On British morning TV show GMTV, her young sibling Dannii admitted the
Minogue family had been going through "a tough time" since Kylie was first
diagnosed.
After having a cancerous lump removed from her breast, Dannii declared Kylie
is now doing "really good".
Dannii explained: "It's quite a stressful treatment. She is handling it very
gracefully.
"She is very well aware of the floods of love coming in for her and it's
very helpful and supportive."
When asked if Kylie had returned to Australia after seeking treatment in
France, Dannii replied: "Honouring her privacy, I wouldn't want to go into
any details of anything. Obviously, she is getting the best treatment and
wishes everyone else can have the same."

Pop star KYLIE MINOGUE is rushing home to Melbourne, Australia, after
her weight reportedly dropped to 38 kilograms (84 pounds) during her
ongoing treatment for breast cancer.
The SPINNING AROUND star sparked further fears for her health when
her stint with an alternative doctor in Paris, France, left her
worryingly weak.
A friend tells British newspaper The Sun, "Kylie's mum CAROL and dad
RON are shocked by how much weight she's lost and how frail she is
looking.
"She and Olivier chose her Parisian doctor because he uses a lot of
the aromatherapy, oils and alternative therapies she likes.
"But he is unregistered and Kylie's family are not convinced he's the
best person to treat her."
And her family were particularly concerned to find Minogue's
boyfriend OLIVIER MARTINEZ has left the suffering songbird alone in
order to film a new movie about ballet icon RUDOLF NUREYEV.
The source adds, "On top of that, Olivier has been spending a lot of
time filming recently and hasn't been there for Kylie all the time.
"They've managed to persuade her to come back to Melbourne where they
can keep a proper eye on her. Everyone's terribly worried."

Minogue facing agonising wait
05/09/2005 - 08:10:32
Australian singer Kylie Minogue endured her last session of chemotherapy on
Friday - but doctors have told her she will have to wait two months until
they can determine if the treatment has been successful.
The Spinning Around star has been making regular visits to Paris' Institute
Gustave Roussy as she battles the breast cancer which forced her to postpone
the homecoming leg of her Showgirl world tour in May.
A source close to Minogue told British newspaper the News Of The World;
"Kylie is going through hell at the moment. The sessions are bad enough but
having to wait for two months to be told whether it was all worth it is just
awful.
"But she is very strong and is getting on with her life and trying not to
think about it. It's all in the hands of the gods now. She's had the best
treatment you can have in the world. She can't do anything else."
-
Australian singer KYLIE MINOGUE has made such a remarkable recovery
from breast cancer, she will continue her postponed Showgirl tour next
spring (06).
The SPINNING AROUND beauty was forced to cancel a series of live
shows when she was diagnosed with the deadly disease in May (05) - but
is making a speedy recovery following two operations in Melbourne,
Australia and intensive chemotherapy and radiation treatment in Paris,
France.
Minogue is "over the moon" after doctors told her she will be healthy
enough to return to the stage less than a year after being hit with her
devastating diagnosis.
An insider tells British newspaper The People, "When the tour was
cancelled, naturally everyone's first thought was for Kylie's health.
"The team weren't given any indication of if or when the dates would
be rescheduled and were just left hanging. So imagine their surprise
and delight when they received a call last week to tell them it would
be back on in the spring." (SC/WNSPE)

MINOGUE HAS REVOLUTIONARY FERTILITY TREATMENT
Australian singer Kylie Minogue has undergone a revolutionary fertility
treatment in a bid to improve her chances of conceiving her first child when
she completes her treatment for breast cancer.
The singing beauty was diagnosed with the potentially fatal disease in May
and underwent two successful operations in her native Melbourne. She is
currently receiving chemotherapy and radiation treatment in Paris where she
is being looked after by her lover Olivier Marinez and his parents.
British newspaper The Sun writes Minogue has been told her best chance of
ridding her body of cancer for good is to combine therapies with medication
to stop her producing estrogen -- the female hormone aids the aggressive
cancer in its destruction of healthy tissue.
But starving her body of the hormone will stop the 37-year-old from
producing eggs, so she has had slivers of her ovaries removed and frozen
until doctors declare she is free of cancer. Doctors will then reintroduce
the slivers into her abdomen in the hope they will start producing eggs.
A friend tells the newspaper, "Kylie's first thought when she was told she
had breast cancer was not of her own health, but of the fact she may never
have babies. An expert mentioned this new technique and she jumped at the
chance."
According to medical experts, this procedure has only resulted in two
successful pregnancies to date.
-
Pop beauty KYLIE MINOGUE will stay with her French boyfriend OLIVIER
MARTINEZ's parents next month (AUG05) - because they have agreed to
care for her while she has chemotherapy to fight breast cancer in
Paris.
The SPINNING AROUND star, 37, recently had surgery to remove a lump
in one of her breasts in her hometown of Melbourne, Australia.
But she wants to undergo the second phase of treatment at the
Institute Gustave-Roussy - Europe's largest cancer treatment centre -
so she can get to know Martinez's parents ROBERT and ROSEMARY better.
Rosemary says, "Kylie needs a lot of rest. We will be so happy to
have her here. We all love her so much and want to do everything we can
for her. When she comes she will bring so much happiness to everybody.
"Kylie is fighting hard and is becoming better every day. This is a
great place for her - she will be well looked after. Kylie is treated
as one of the family."
Robert adds, "Kylie has been speaking to us regularly and we are so
glad she will be come and see us here. We have been thinking about
Kylie throughout her ordeal. Olivier has been so worried but he is
coping well and giving all his support to Kylie." (JB/WNTMI/CM)

Glastonbury invite for Kylie
26/06/2005 - 13:08:19
Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis today offered Kylie Minogue a place on the
bill at the next festival in 2007.
He was speaking after headline band Coldplay performed their own tribute to
the Australian star, who is recovering from breast cancer surgery.
During their set, played before tens of thousands of people last night,
leader singer Chris Martin'>Chris Martin spoke about Kylie, who was due to headline the
main stage tonight but had to pull out because of her illness.
"Everyone's paid to see Kylie as well so shouldn't we remember absent
friends," he said before launching into a cover of Kylie's hit single Can't
Get You Out Of My Head.
At today's news conference Mr Eavis, who recovered from a cancer operation
12 years ago, also paid tribute to the singer.
"We sent a message to Kylie wishing her well," he said, "and maybe we can
get her for 2007, although I think she may have a career change now."
Speaking at a news conference at the festival site, Mr Eavis praised the
technicians who kept the show on the road despite the torrential rain and
flooding on Friday.
"In fact, our electricians are so good they are working in Afghanistan and
they are going to Iraq, using what they have learned about power supplies
here," he said.
And he revealed how a chance meeting with Chris Martin'>Chris Martin in London's Regent
Street clinched Coldplay's appearance this year.
Mr Eavis said he had just hailed a taxi when Martin spotted him and raced
through the traffic for a chat.
"Then I popped the question," Eavis laughed, "and he took about 40 seconds
to make up his mind."
There is no Glastonbury Festival next year but Mr Eavis pledged today that
it would be back in 2007 when he expected some of the outstanding new bands
who appeared this year to be higher on the bill.
Mr Eavis, who will be 70 in the Autumn, said his daughter Emily, widely seen
as his heir apparent, was not ready yet to run the festival but she played a
key role in programming the acts.
"People ring her now with their questions and problems and ask her to ask
her dad" he laughed.
"People seem to love the festival more and more every year," he said, "and
these are the people who keep me going."

Expect to hear about her business manager being fired over this one -- at
least he should be -- Not insuring against illness-cause cancellations?
That's just completely stupid and short sighted. Of course, no one could
have predicted she would be diagnosed with cancer, but what about the flu or
food poisoning or laryngitis or any other common ailments that would cause a
cancellation or postponement? Everybody gets sick some time.

MELBOURNE, Australia - Kylie Minogue has thanked her fans for their
support since she was diagnosed with breast cancer, saying she'll have
more treatment when she returns to Europe.
Minogue had surgery in Melbourne last month to remove a lump from her
breast.
"I am getting through this one step at a time, and your messages of
love and support have been greatly appreciated," the 37-year-old
London-based singer said in a posting Monday on her Web site.
"Rest assured I am being well looked after, though it will be a long
road ahead. I will be receiving future treatment on my return to
Europe."
Minogue said she was "delighted to learn that some good things have
come of all this."
"I've been informed that since my diagnosis thousands of women had
become more aware than ever of the risk of breast cancer," she said.
"Being `breast aware' plays a major role in early detection so I was
especially pleased to hear that younger women in particular are being
more proactive with breast examination and talking to their doctors."
Minogue urged fans not to "believe everything you have read" including
"the repainting of my hospital room pink ... imported English
bodyguards ... more imagined boyfriends ... diverted ambulances ... an
`entire hospital wing' for `my entourage' and other equally ridiculous
stories."
She said rumors of her medical condition and treatment "are rife and
generally incorrect."

Kylie needs year off
06/06/2005 - 11:40:01
Kylie Minogue will need to take a year off while she is treated for breast
cancer, after doctors discovered the illness is worse than they suspected.
The singer had surgery on May 21 to remove a cancerous lump and doctors
hoped they had caught the disease before it had spread.
But they now fear the cancer has taken more of a hold.
Kylie, who is currently undergoing radiotherapy at hospital near her home in
Melbourne, Australia, will need to undergo six months of intensive therapy -
and a further six months to recuperate.
A source says: "It had been hoped that she might be back by the end of the
year to do all the gigs she cancelled but that is not going to happen.
"She has a long journey ahead of her before she can even think about going
back to work.
"She has been told to expect at least six months of therapy. It will then
take her a long time to get back into good enough shape to undergo gruelling
tours.
"She is on the road to recovery, and she isn't going to die, but this is
serious and it's going to take time."
