Judy Garland was filled with hate. It was a major factor in the
decline of her mental health between the 1964 cancellation of her prime
- time TV series and her 1969 death.
Example # 1 : Gerold Frank's 1972 biography of her (well - received by
critics) says that in 1958, Judy was nasty to husband Sid Luft when he
visited her in the hospital after surgery.
It was NOT rehab for substance abuse. Ms. Garland underwent surgery.
Recovering in her room, she accused her husband of cheating on her with
a pretty girl he saw for a few seconds on the sidewalk outside the
hospital. She used the word "fuck," which was largely taboo at the
time -- 1958. You had to be very angry and hateful to say it to a
spouse then.
Example # 2 : the DVD of Barbra Streisand's guest appearance on CBS
"The Judy Garland Show" in the fall of 1963.
Barbra, clad in a sailor's suit, says she admires Judy's singing very
much. Judy replies, "I hate you ! My reaction to your excellent
singing is that it makes me hate you !"
Bravo to Liza Minnelli for learning, after decades of escape with
chemicals, to love people instead of hate them.
Now all we need is for the gay fans of Judy and Liza to stop hating.
They hated poor innocent actress Sharon Gless for playing the part of
Detective Cagney. They wanted a more mannish actress to play the
part. They cited her casting as homophobia.
That was in 1982. The hatred lives on. Now gay activists hate anyone
who hasn't sat through all two hours of Brokeback Mountain.
Hey, limp wrists, learn how not to hate. It ruined Judy Garland's
mental health.
Maybe you remember me from four years ago when Google Groups looked
different graphically and visually. (Dig those adverbs !) I am
conspiracy theorist Lisa Pease, also known as "Bucket Brain." Please
visit my web site and add comments to it:
www.realhistoryarchives.com
Oh, and if you don't believe what Gerold Frank said about Ms. Garland's
hate, consider that he published it in 1972, many years before Kitty
Kelley changed the rules for trashy biography. Will anyone write my
biography ? Bye now.

Minnelli does have a Grammy - albeit an honorary one - to go with her
Oscar, Emmy, and Tony. She was in the first group of performers to
receive a Legend of Grammy Award when it was inaugurated in 1990.
She's also got a Golden Globe and a Razzie to fill out the shelf.

Minnelli feels used by Oz show
From: AAP By Peter Mitchell in Los Angeles
March 19, 2006
BROADWAY diva Liza Minnelli has claimed she was used by the creators of the
musical, The Boy from Oz.
An upset Minnelli, who was married to Peter Allen for seven years and is
portrayed in the show along with her famous mother, Judy Garland, said she
never gave the musical her approval and her request to see the was
refused.
Minnelli was so disheartened she boycotted Hugh Jackman's Tony Award-winning
performance as Allen during the show's successful 2003-04 run on New York's
Broadway.
"I don't believe in supporting people who use you," Minnelli, 59, said on
CNN's globally broadcast TV talkshow, Larry King Live.
It is believed Minnelli was invited to the Broadway production, but did not
attend.
Minnelli said she had no hard feelings toward Jackman.
When King asked her if she blamed Jackman, Minnelli replied: "Oh, God no.
He's marvellous. He is wonderful".
But Minnelli refused to see Jackman on Broadway.
"I couldn't. I couldn't go," Minnelli, a winner of entertainment's four top
awards - the Oscar, Tony, Grammy and Emmy - said.
Minnelli's disappointment was with the show's creators because "it was never
approved of by anybody's family".
"I think the people that did it, they never sent me the ," Minnelli
said.
"I asked for it and I thought, and I learned this from my mum, you know, to
hell with it.
"If they won't send it to me, then there's something wrong with it."
Minnelli's comments come ahead of The Boy from Oz's return to Australia in
August, with Jackman reprising the role of Allen in arenas in Sydney,
Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.
The Boy From Oz, based on the life of Allen and incorporating many of the
flamboyant Australian entertainer's songs, was first performed in Australia
in 1998 with Todd McKenney playing Allen.
The musical was a phenomenal success during the original Australian run with
more than one million tickets sold and $A60 million earned at the box
office.
Brisbane actress Angela Toohey will play Minnelli alongside Jackman in the
upcoming Australian tour. Chrissy Amphlett will play Garland.
Minnelli was married to Allen from 1967 through to 1974.
Allen died of complications from AIDS in 1992.
Producer Ben Gannon today said "no comment" when asked about the report.

German lit was one of my majors in college, so I went and read the sites
about him. Get this: he was friends with a 94-year-old Princess who had no
children. Anyway, because they didn't want their name to die out, she
adopted him.
So he's a flamer who got his whole claim to fame (his title) by being
adopted by an ancient woman. Sounds like he's perfect for Liza.
She really is unbelievable, as is the ridiculousness of the fake reporting

Renee Zellweger is reportedly set to star in a remake of hit musical
'Cabaret'.
Insiders claim the Hollywood actress is in talks with producers about
playing Sally Bowles - the role made famous by Liza Minnelli in
theOscar-winning 1972 film.
Movie bosses are said to be keen to cast Renee after her success in the
recent film version of the musical 'Chicago', which she sang and
dancedas sexy murderess Roxie Hart.
Set against the backdrop of the rise of the Nazi party in 1930s Berlin,

falls in love with Englishman Brian Roberts, played by Michael York
inthe original movie.
The 1972 film was directed by legendary choreographer Bob Fosse,

Walken's about face
Helen Barlow
IT'S HARD to imagine as anyone other than the character he played in Abel
Ferrara's cult classic, The King of New York.
It's the way he stands so straight, the smart way he dresses in crisp suits
and the almost staccato way he talks that allows him to exude such fear.
"It has something to do with Annie Hall and The Deer Hunter being made
back-to-back," recalls the 62-year-old actor. "Annie Hall was a great movie
and a lot of people saw I played a crazy guy. Right after that I shot myself
in The Deer Hunter. From then on I got to play the guy who has something
wrong with him."
Now in the feel-good comedy Wedding Crashers , he is the heavyweight
politician dad, past whom Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn must navigate to get
to his single daughters, Rachel McAdams and Isla Fisher.
Being cast in the role of Treasury Secretary William Cleary caught Walken by
surprise.
"When you combine my personality and background with the kinds of parts I've
played, it doesn't lead me to believe I would be cast as a political
figurehead entrusted to control and keep up with the country's money," he
notes dryly.
"I have always played characters a little bit on the outside, so it's a nice
change of pace to play a family man with three daughters."
The film is poised to be the hot US summer comedy. Did he feel it was going
to be a hit as he was making it?
"I don't know," Walken replies. "Maybe. Certainly by this time, in my case,
I try not to do that. That's just superstitious, or whatever. But I just
hope for the best."
As often is the case, Walken, who originally trained as a dancer, takes to
the dance floor. His skill somewhat intimidated McAdams.
Walken says he has been in show business all his life, beginning when he
posed with kittens for a calendar shoot when he was 14 months.
As a child he worked in hundreds of television's early productions,
including a skit with Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin.
"I should write a book about those days. At NBC there would be women walking
around dressed as packs of Chesterfield cigarettes. They had such beautiful
legs," he muses.
At 16, he worked in a small travelling circus as part of a lion-taming act.
"I was supposed to be the tamer's son and the lion was very old and had only
one tooth, so I never got hurt," he says.
His birth name was Ronald, but that changed in his early adulthood. "I was a
dancer and I was in a nightclub act with Monique van Boring and three other
guys and one night she said to me, 'I'm going to call you Christopher', and
I said 'Ok'. "
These days he prefers to be called Chris. In interviews, Walken likes to
recall moments and movies from his past. And he has a lot of both, with a
history of some 100 movies working with some of the industry's best.
His first film, Sidney Lumet's The Anderson Tapes (1971) still stands the
test of time, even if it's rarely seen.
The son of a German father who worked as a baker in New York's Queens
district, and a Scottish stay-at-home mother, Walken is an avid cook - "I
like the Mediterranean things, pasta, olive oil and garlic".
He has been married for 36 years to Georgianne Walken, the casting director
for The Sopranos, but has never appeared on the show. "We try to keep our
work separate," he says.
Although based in rural Connecticut, where understandably he does most of
the cooking, he remains at heart a New Yorker. He even knew Andy Warhol.
"There was a time when I was around New York City at night: Studio 54, I did
all that," he recalls. "I'd been invited to Andy's place, The Factory, where
he'd have a buffet on a big table at lunch time and people would come in and
eat something.
"It was a room full of an assortment of strangers and he'd come in with a
little camera and he'd take pictures of you while you were eating.
"He liked me and I liked him very much. I always thought he was interesting.
"Warhol has this reputation for never saying anything, but whenever I was
with him he was always talkative and friendly.
"He loved to talk about movies; he knew a lot about movies.
"He was almost gregarious and he wasn't strange at all. He was obviously a
very sharp guy."
In the 1960s Walken worked in the theatre, while in the 1970s he started
making films of the ilk of The Deer Hunter and Next Stop, Greenwich Village.
But the 1980s saw the New York art world and Walken's career come to a
standstill, only to be revived in the 1990s in four movies by Abel Ferrara -
The Funeral, The Addiction, New Rose Hotel and The King of New York, the
film that also launched the career of Laurence Fishburne.
"Abel had me up there looking at everyone," he says, recalling the film's
casting.
"When I first met Larry Fishburne, I said to Abel, 'Where did you get this
guy? Put this guy in the movie, he's dangerous, he's making me very
nervous'. "
Now the actor formerly known as Larry calls himself Laurence and is a
central figure in the Matrix movies, which also made him very rich.
Walken could never make such a commitment - he likes his films to be over
fast, but that's not all. He was just never cut out to be a leading man,
although he figures big in such works as Last Man Standing, Blast From The
Past and The Funeral.
He laughs at the memory of screen testing for Ryan O'Neal's role in Love
Story, and struggles to get the words out, even now: "Love means . . . ugh,
ugh, I can't say it, it means never saying sorry, you know, you know . . .
another movie I tested for was Star Wars. Can you believe it?"
He was George Lucas's second choice for the role of Han Solo.
You would have made a lot of money, I suggest. "It would have been the end
of my career," he replies bluntly.
Walken favours words over special effects in movies. It comes from his 25
years in theatre before he turned to film.
His first appearance was singing and dancing in Best Foot Forward, opposite
a 16-year-old Liza Minnelli in her Broadway debut.
For an American he is unusually accomplished at Shakespeare.
"I've played many of the great roles. But not very well," he says. "I played
Romeo three times, I played Hamlet three times. I played Richard II which,"
he pauses, "you don't wanna talk about. That's a hard part. I was Iago to
Raul Julia's Othello. Chekhov too, I think I'm better at that, but I think
Chekhov and Americans go pretty well together. Shakespeare is hard for us,
it kind of belongs to the English."
In 2001, he appeared opposite Meryl Streep in a landmark production of The
Seagull for the New York Shakespeare Festival.
He freely admits he has made some bad movies, many in fact, but he finds it
hard to say no.
"Well, I've been doing this for such a long time, but also, I really like to
work. I don't have hobbies, I don't have kids, I don't really like to
travel. I really just like to go to work.
"I think I'm known as a working actor; you know, dependable, trustworthy,"
Walken says of his career which stretches back farther than he would care to
remember.
"I'm all for reincarnation," he quips.

- Rather than languish forever in the shadow of her supremely talented parents (Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli)-as has been the fate of some talented offspring of megastars-this bright-eyed bundle of energy has forged her own career with strength and determination. And if she doesn't immediately come to mind as a movie star, don't forget that she won an Oscar for her portrayal of Sally Bowles in Cabaret (1972) and was nominated for her heart-tugging performance in The Sterile Cuckoo (1969) as well. Liza made her film debut as a toddler in her mom's star- ring vehicle In the Good Old Summertime (1949), and at 18 began establishing herself as a talented singer and dancer in nightclubs and on stage.
