Posey 'Trashes' Sydney Apartment
AP / Douglas C. Pizac
Actress Parker Posey'>Parker Posey is facing damages of $11,260 after allegedly trashing
the luxury Sydney apartment she has been sharing with her partner Jason
Rail.
Posey, 36, has been renting the lavish Potts Point flat while filming
"Superman Returns," in which she plays the villainous Lex Luthor's
girlfriend, Kitty Koslowski.
But her landlord is now accusing the couple of a catalogue of problems
ranging from missing toilet brushes to damaged antique furniture, stained
carpets and scratched marble flooring, as well as misinformation about the
exact identity of his tenants.
A source says, "Part of the deal was that the owner's cleaner would visit
once a week to keep an eye on things and clean.
"It was then discovered there had been a change of tenants and Parker Posey'>Parker Posey,
who they were led to believe was a man, had moved in. They reluctantly
agreed to stop sending the cleaner after being told Parker Posey'>Parker Posey wanted
privacy and being assured "he" would keep the apartment spotless.
"It was very disheartening for the owners to discover the state it was in
after they left, especially when the apartment was pristine when leased.
They were only in there for a few months. You could hardly say the damage
was caused by the usual wear and tear."
The film's production company, Red Sun Productions, who arranged the letting
for their star, is disputing the claims and vows to fight for the return of
their $7,520 bond.

NY DAILY NEWS...RUSH AND MOLLOY
They don't need supermarket tabloids at the Union Square Whole Foods.
One shopper says her checkout counter scrap with Parker Posey was more
shocking than anything in the Star or The Enquirer.
NBC technical engineer Theresa Reed has told police that when she
encountered Posey at the grocery Thursday, the actress was every bit as
shrewish as the character she plays in Off-Broadway's "Hurlyburly."
Reed tells us she was approaching the register when Posey cut in front
of her.
"She steps on my foot and leans her body into mine," claims Reed. "I
said, 'Miss, can you please get off of me?'"
Reed says Parker huffed sarcastically, "Sorry my bag touched yours."
Reed, who recalls Posey's hair being "all matted," replied: "Miss, I
don't want you on my body. You look dirty and you smell bad."
Walking away from the confrontation, Reed says she headed to a
refrigerator to get some juice. That's when, she says, Posey's male
companion snuck up and shoved her into the juice case. Posey's friend,
"who stank too," then "ran back to [Posey] like a little girl," Reed
says.
Reed says she immediately reported the incident to a cop outside. Reed
says she didn't recognize the actress Time once dubbed "Queen of the
Indies" until Posey told the officer, "I'm Parker Posey and I'm in a
show!"
A rep for Posey, who had her run-in about an hour before she was due to
join Ethan Hawke onstage, was unavailable for comment. A Whole Foods
manager declined to comment.

Hawke Nervous About Thurman Watching His Play
Actor Ethan Hawke is hoping Uma Thurman doesn't turn up to see him in his
Broadway play Hurlyburly - because his character says a lot of harsh things
about his ex-wife. The Training Day star, who co-stars with Parker Posey in
the New York City production, split with Kill Bill beauty Thurman in 2003,
and admits it would be a highly uncomfortable situation if she decided to
show up for one of his shows. Hawke says, "I would love to have her come,
but she hasn't come and I don't think she should. My character rants so much
about his ex-wife that I think it would make the audience so uncomfortable,
or at least the 10 people sitting near her. She's so tall, and everybody
would be looking at her. Every night, sometimes when the house isn't very
responsive, that's the first thing that goes through my mind: 'Is she here
tonight? Why's everybody so quiet?'"

By Mike Szymanski
Ryan Reynolds looks around in the empty hotel room as if he thinks that the
supernatural vampire killer is stalking him.
"Yeah, all that stuff in the movie where I was saying, 'He hates me doesn't
he?' and all that, well, it's all true," deadpans the comic actor. "There was
no kidding around on the set with Wesley Snipes."
Reynolds, who's known for his comedic roles like "Van Wilder," tells Zap2it.com
that the third installment of the Marvel comic book movie, "Blade Trinity," was
as scary while shooting it as it sometimes looks on film. Snipes recreates the
role of Blade, the reluctant rogue vampire who hunts and kills other vampires
and he reluctantly teams up with Nightstalkers -- Abigail, played by Jessica
Biel, and Hannibal King, played by Reynolds.
"I guess it's the method acting things, but you only do one take with him,
that's it," Reynolds says, still a bit cautious. "I'm not sure I ever really
met Wesley Snipes."
Although he's the title character and is listed as the producer of this third
film, Snipes isn't doing press, but Zap2it has confirmed his stoic demeanor on
the film with fellow actors Biel, Parker Posey and director David S. Goyer, who
wrote all three "Blade" films and directed the first and third. (Guillermo Del
Toro directed the second.)
"Wesley was scary, it was intimidating, he was Blade, he did not say much to
me," says Biel. "We had a good relationship on screen, but we did not become
friends. He had parties, I did not attend."
Goyer, who was at a loss to explain Snipes, says he cast Reynolds because he
was the polar opposite of Snipes. "You couldn't find two people more
dissimilar, both on screen and off, they were like oil and water."
So, Reynolds tried ad-libbing a few times by complaining about Snipes/Blade, it
often ended up in the movie. Blade throws a guy off a ledge at one point and
Reynolds taunts, "You ever think about getting in touch with that inner child?"
a It was also Goyer's brainstorm to pair up Reynolds with Posey, who's a staple
of the Christopher Guest comedies such as "Best in Show" and "Waiting for
Guffman" and plays a former girlfriend of Reynolds' character who tries to turn
him into a vampire. At one point, Posey plays a dominatrix interrogator to
Reynolds. It's both frightening and funny, and it's mostly improvised.
"It's hard to figure out how much is improvised on the spot, but I could have
shot that interrogation scene for weeks," laughs Goyer, admitting that many
jokes came over late-night drinks with Reynolds.
"He's like my little brother, I loved picking on him," adds Posey. "I never
thought I'd get so much into an action film like this, but he made it a hoot
the whole way."
Reynolds gushes equally about her, saying, "I've never felt so happy to work
with somebody in my entire life. It was all sort of like a dance just to have
somebody that was able to go toe-to-toe and step-for-step every moment."
Some stuff will have to be held for the DVD, though, and Reynolds adds, "Some
things should never be allowed for public consumption, like when Parker and I
get in a slap fight like two little girls. There are going to be lots of
outtakes."
Some of those outtakes no doubt will involve stunts that Biel and Reynolds did
during the filming.
"I got to have some cool weapons, but was on a diet to get my arms to look like
that," says Biel, who admits to a six-day-a-week workout with a diet requiring
no sugar, flour, dairy or salt. She worked out regularly with Reynolds and when
the film was over, they binged on pizza and doughnuts.
"They let us do all the stunts except when we went through the glass," Biel
says.
And Reynolds not only tussles with Snipes, but battles with a character played
by professional wrestler Triple H, Paul Levesque, in one scene.
"As much as he tried to be gentle with me, I was in pain. I had to have Advil
for breakfast many mornings, sitting in a bathtub full of ice and moaning,"
says Reynolds.
Despite the pain, and the possibility that the Blade series may be over, Goyer
-- who just co-wrote the "Batman Begins" -- and Reynolds, who just
completed "The Amityville Horror" remake, and Biel, who is starting the film
"Elizabethtown," all say they would be up for branching off a "Nightstalker"
series of films. It depends on how fans feel after the Dec. 7 wide release of
the film.
"It's time for the franchise to continue with someone who has a bit of a sense
of humor, who's hip, and looks like he's having fun," says Reynolds -- and then
he looks around the room again, to see if Blade is listening.

Humor thicker than blood in lively third 'Blade'
Peter Hartlaub, Chronicle Pop Culture Critic
Wednesday, December 8, 2004
Blade: Trinity: Action film. Starring Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson,
Ryan Reynolds, Jessica Biel and Parker Posey. Directed by David S. Goyer.
(R. 106 minutes. .)
There's a feeling after watching the third "Blade" movie that the filmmakers
had a long brainstorming session before production started and then
decided -- what the hell? -- to just include everything.
FBI agents show up in "Blade: Trinity" along with a Rodney King-style media
circus subplot, a band of human vampire hunters and a new gang of
bloodsuckers as well. And then, after half the cast of "A Mighty Wind" and
Eric Bogosian wind their way into the story, the movie turns into a Dracula
picture, with a 21st century update of the demon prince called Drake.
Under the direction of "Blade" and "Blade II" scribe David S. Goyer, "Blade:
Trinity" vows to give the audience a double bill's worth of movie in less
than two hours, and gets a little messy in the process. But there's just
enough comforting familiarity mixed with refreshing new characters to hold
the casserole of a plot together.
Although Internet fan sites spread rumors that the newest "Blade" would take
place in an all-vampire world, "Blade: Trinity" begins in recognizable
territory -- with half human/half vampire Blade (Wesley Snipes) and his
partner, Whistler (Kris Kristofferson), waging more guerrilla warfare on the
underground nation of vampires still plotting to take over the human race. A
carefully placed video camera frames Blade and forces the hero to accept
help from a young coalition of humans called the Nightstalkers, led by the
vampire- despising Hannibal King (Ryan Reynolds).
"Blade: Trinity" languishes until Reynolds appears onscreen, and then he
acts like a defibrillator, energizing the movie with a combination of action
film moves and a Chandler-Bing-as-vampire-hunter stream of wisecracks. From
there, Goyer puts the noir elements associated with the franchise on hold
and keeps the fun coming -- this is by far the most humorous "Blade" film --
with casting that pairs wrestler Triple H and indie film goddess Parker
Posey as scene-chewing vampires, and adds fellow Christopher Guest film
regular John Michael Higgins in a smaller but no less memorable human part.
Snipes has done a lot with the few lines he's been given since the first
"Blade" was released in 1998, but his stoic character was in need of an
Eddie Murphy to Snipes' Nick Nolte. Reynolds' copious scenes will probably
alienate hard-core "Blade" fans, who will lament seeing the dark material
being turned into a "Lethal Weapon" movie. But it's the best thing that
could have happened to resuscitate the franchise.
The movie's casting doesn't always work. Dominic Purcell as Drake is little
more than a stunt double between the scenes where his character turns into a
computer-generated effect. Jessica Biel, as a Nightstalker who is also
Whistler's daughter, is almost as forgettable. As the comic book equivalent
of James Bond's gadget freak Agent Q, Kristofferson's Whistler has always
been an underrated pleasure in the franchise, and it's disappointing that
his offspring appears to have gotten every physical and personality trait
from her mother's side of the family.
The decision to move Goyer into the director's seat was a good one, even if
his action scenes lean more toward an episode of "Walker: Texas Ranger" than
the high-wire martial arts movie work that fans may be expecting. While
"Blade" was heavy on blue-hued techno-rave imagery and "Blade II" was a
horror film that seemed to take place mostly in sewers, "Blade: Trinity"
features more daylight than both films combined and is refreshingly free of
love interests for its main characters.
That leaves more time to blow things up, plus a rousing car chase meant for
the first "Blade" but cut because of budget limitations. And Goyer takes the
time to answer a few obvious questions from the past films, such as this
stumper: If the vampires ever "win" by turning all of the humans into
vampires, how will they feed? (Think blood banks, on a much larger scale.)
The ending suggests that there may be more "Blade" films, but the prospects
seem dim. After Dracula shows up in your vampire film, is there anyplace
else to go?
-- Advisory: This film contains profanity, scenes of a child in danger and
graphic violence.

Third Blood
Jessica Biel admits it: 'I loved kicking ass!'
By LIZ BRAUN -- Toronto Sun
One of the producers of Blade: Trinity describes the film's heroine,
Jessica Biel, as a perfect human being. It's only a slight exaggeration.
Bright and utterly charming in person, Biel, 22, says happily, "I loved
kicking ass!" about her tough-girl role in the action film. Biel was in
Toronto last month with co-star Ryan Reynolds to promote Blade: Trinity,
third instalment in the Wesley Snipes vampire hunter series. The film also
stars Kris Kristofferson, Parker Posey, Natasha Lyonne and wrestler Triple
H.
Biel says of Blade: Trinity, "My job was to report to set each day and whup
on people," and she laughs. "It was a dream come true, especially for a
girl. I had the coolest toys. I had the best of everything. It's amazing how
much people like to see a girl have the floor and really kick butt."
Although Biel appears to be too delicate to kick anything bigger than sand,
she is in fact an athlete. She had special training to do the martial arts
and archery required in Blade: Trinity, but her background is in dance and
gymnastics.
"I was doing ballet for a work-out for the past two years, and I did jazz
and tap as a kid. But I really spent a lot of time in gymnastics." She
explains that while making Rules Of Attraction, the director, Roger Avary,
asked her what unique skills she had. "What came to me is that I can walk on
my hands forever. So I have a whole scene in that movie walking on my hands.
I never thought I'd incorporate being a gymnast into movies."
If that weren't enough, Biel then says singing is her first passion. She
already has had two offers to sing and dance on Broadway. "Singing is the
one thing that gives you that, that feeling," she says, throwing out her
arms to indicate rapture.
"You know that feeling? I just love that feeling!"
Biel, who grew up in Colorado, started taking singing lessons as a child.
She performed in musical theatre, then enrolled in modelling when she was an
adolescent. Her big acting break came with the TV series 7th Heaven, and
despite her youth, she has been in eight movies, among them Cellular, Texas
Chainsaw Massacre, Ulee's Gold, Summer Catch and I'll Be Home For Christmas.
She will be in the upcoming Cameron Crowe film Elizabethtown. Of that she
says, "I was at a read-through ... and I was sitting at this giant table,
and I looked around and I thought, 'Cameron Crowe is sitting there, and Tom
Cruise is over there, Susan Sarandon is over there and Kirsten Dunst is
right over there. I wanted to call my mom!" she says, laughing. "I was so
nervous. I didn't know if I should be there. It was just one of those
moments when you feel you're in over your head."
Did we mention charming?
Biel knows the feeling of being in over her head. The one story everyone
knows about her is that she cleverly appeared in some provocative magazine
photos just to escape her 7th Heaven contract and the goody-goody image that
went with it.
Wrong. "That's a complete fabrication," Biel says, explaining that this is
just the way the story plays now. In fact, she says, the shoot was a mistake
she now regrets. "I was 17. I thought I knew everything. I thought I was the
smartest thing, my parents knew nothing, and I was a woman now. And I just
got into a situation that got out of hand."
And, says Biel, her own need to please, to do as she was told, was part of
the problem.
"I had this kind of warped view, that I would be looked at as a bitch if I
didn't please people. I got into a situation where I tried to please
everybody else. And then, afterward, I had a meltdown. I called my dad. I
was so embarrassed I didn't even want to tell him what happened."
All this over a few naughty photos?
"I lost so much sleep over that," she says, earnestly. "But I've got to a
place where I'm glad it happened, because I needed to make myself No. 1, and
that's what I learned. The hard way. In front of everybody."
The toughest part of it all, says Biel, is that people still expect her to
play only sexy roles. And they still ask her to do provocative photo shoots.
"I won't do it. It's too painful. I don't ever want to be looked at like
that again," she states.
Asked if she feels she's "arrived" as an actor, Biel cheerfully says she
thought so once -- when she was 11 and got cast in a training video.
Otherwise, "I haven't felt that way for a long time. There's so much
competition. And it's a hard place to be, in a career. I chose it. I'm not
complaining about it, but I don't think I'll think, 'This will work,' or
even, 'I'll be okay,' for a long time."
She adds, wistfully, "There are so many young women, so many talented
people. The competition is just brutal."

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Chris Kattan has teamed with "Austin Powers"
writer Michael McCullers for a TV comedy project that will showcase Kattan's
knack for physical comedy, which became his trademark during his seven-year
stint on "Saturday Night Live."
After a bidding war, the 20th Century Fox TV/3 Arts Entertainment comedy landed
at ABC with a pilot commitment.
The untitled project, which Kattan describes as "Larry David meets 'I Love
Lucy,"' centers on a consumer reporter at a small-town TV station, his
relationship with his co-workers and his dating life.
"He is based on a huge exaggeration of myself," Kattan said. "He is an
appealing, neurotic, Basil Fawlty-type of egomaniac."
McCullers, who worked with Kattan on "SNL," will pen the script with "Just
Shoot Me" writers Don Woodard and Tom Maxwell.
It will be in the vein of such classic sitcoms that combined good writing with
solid physical comedy as "I Love Lucy," "Fawlty Towers," "Mary Tyler Moore" and
"The Dick Van Dyke Show."
"We miss the set pieces that allow for great physical comedy with smart jokes
behind it," Kattan said.
Kattan called ABC the perfect network home for the project because its
commitment to "Desperate Housewives" proved that "they appreciate good writing
with darkness to it" and praised 20th TV for its support.
Kattan, whose big-screen credits include "Corky Romano" and "Undercover
Brother," recently wrapped the indie romantic comedy "Adam & Steve," in which
he stars opposite Parker Posey.
McCullers co-wrote with Mike Myers "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" and
"Austin Powers in Goldmember."

Reese Witherspoon:
More than plucky?
She may have the drive, but that doesn't necessarily mean she has the talent
Reese Witherspoon stars in "Vanity Fair." She will next play June Carter
Cash in "I Walk the Line."
COMMENTARY
By Tara Ariano and Sarah D. Bunting
Updated: 1:42 a.m. ET Sept. 1, 2004
Reese Witherspoon has it all, and can do it all - at least according to this
month's Vanity Fair, which put Her Blondeness on the cover. The accompanying
article made much of her successes in the realms of both film and family:
she commands $15 million per picture, and goes from genre to genre with
relative ease, starring in franchise chick flicks, satires and period
pieces. Witherspoon is also happily married to semi-retired teen dream Ryan
Phillippe, and devoted to her children. Everything's coming up Reese these
days.
But she's not just on the cover of Vanity Fair; she's also starring in the
film version of the Thackeray novel "Vanity Fair," and the role of Becky
Sharp is not a particularly likeable one. Witherspoon has made a career out
of her accessibility - she's pretty, but not intimidatingly so; she's
successful, but she's paid her dues. Can she continue to count on audience
goodwill if she plays a less agreeable character, or are her days as America
's Sweetheart numbered?
Sarah Bunting
I like Reese Witherspoon a lot as an actress. I don't think I'd enjoy her
much as a person, for reasons I can't quite put my finger on; the Vanity
Fair piece gives me the impression that she's sort of humorless. (Although
said piece also mentions that her idea of a fun afternoon is a trip to the
Container Store. I looooove the Container Store. Reese, call me!)
But even when she's playing obnoxious characters, I like her; I think she's
very good at deepening roles that might otherwise play flat or cartoonish.
My favorite film on her résumé, "Election," is a great example - the
audience isn't meant to side with Tracy Flick, and the movie pokes fun at
her constantly, but Witherspoon gives her little touches of humanity (like
the way she slurps her root beer during her pathetic assignation with the
math teacher) that a lesser actress might not have bothered with.
She did the same sort of thing with Annette Hargrove in "Cruel Intentions";
the character is a pawn, but Witherspoon took our eyes off the larger game
for a few minutes and made us feel for her in a way that Michelle Pfeiffer,
in the same role, didn't. Granted, Michelle had to battle the thespionics of
the inimitable Malkovich, but still - I believe Witherspoon's c.v. can
handle a distasteful character. She's good enough to pull it off.
Tara Ariano
I wouldn't want to hang with her in real life either, and given the kinds of
roles she plays, I think that's a big stumbling block between her and the
career she's going to want to have in the long term. Granted, she's not
exactly marketed to us as America's Sweetheart (unless America's Sweetheart
is supposed to be anally retentive and joyless), but she sure plays a lot of
romantic comedy heroines for someone who's not really that.likable. Which is
why your comment above is kind of funny; to me, all she's played are
distasteful characters, to varying degrees.
The typical Reese Witherspoon character is not that different from the Reese
Witherspoon we see in interviews: ambitious, driven, grimly determined,
single-minded, and Type A (which, I guess, is why we're supposed to think it
's cute that "Type A" is what she named her production company). I feel like
I've never seen her show any real weakness in a role; she's got a hard,
flinty quality that I find very off-putting. That's fine, and serves the
character, when she's playing Tracy Flick, but it's going to be a problem
when I'm supposed to believe she's June Carter Cash in the upcoming "Walk
the Line."
Sarah
That single-minded flintiness is winning - because it's different.
- Sarah D. Bunting
I'll see your general point, but in that specific instance, you're also
supposed to believe Joaquin "Commodus" Phoenix is the Man in Black,
which.eh.
Witherspoon can show weakness, but it's not a traditional,
trembly-teary-actressy sort of weakness - it's more a "so angry that she
bursts into tears instead of yelling" kind of vulnerability, which I can
relate to even if it's not always winning or sweet.
And to my mind, that single-minded flintiness is winning - because it's
different. Maybe it's time for us to evolve past that "soft, yet strong"
nonsense in our actresses. The "Legally Blonde" movies don't succeed with
audiences because Elle Woods is unthreatening, but rather because she's a
pink-hammer bad-ass.
Tara
I just feel like I've never seen her play a character who's had to absorb
any major setback in any way
- Tara Ariano
I don't mean that I want her to act more wussy or cry all the time in order
for me to buy her as a real woman. I love Frances McDormand and Catherine
Keener and Angela Bassett and Holly Hunter, none of whom is known as a cream
puff, so I don't have a problem with an actress or a leading lady with a
motor mouth and a steel backbone.
With Witherspoon, though - unlike any of the above-named actresses - I just
feel like I've never seen her play a character who's had to absorb any major
setback in any way. That's not to say that I want to see her react to her
Ken doll boyfriend's dumping her by spending the rest of the movie sobbing
in the sorority house or something, and duh, I know it's a comedy, so it's
not like I expected Mike Leigh-level realism from it either. But that is
just the first of the few bad things to happen to her in "Legally Blonde"
that not only isn't any kind of body blow, but that rather sets her up for a
great triumph, and that's how it seems to go for her in virtually every
role.
Getting sent back to the fictional TV '50s ("Pleasantville") allows her to
catalyze the town's sexual awakening. Getting embroiled in a high-school
scandal ("Election") gets her a job in Washington. Abandoning her hick
husband ("Sweet Home Alabama") improbably makes her a fancy fashion designer
in New York. Everything that doesn't kill her makes her stronger.
Witherspoon is a pretty good actor and is taking her career extremely
seriously. Which is not surprising, because she seems to take everything
very seriously. But she lacks the genuine human vulnerability that an actor
needs in order to be the kind of movie star the public cares about.
Sarah
But don't forget "Little Nicky," where Witherspoon showcased an emotional
openness that - oh, I'm obviously kidding. We didn't see "Little Nicky" and
neither did anyone else.
She hasn't shown vulnerability in a "House of Sand and Fog" kind of way, it'
s true, and if she wants to ascend to the acting pantheon, she should
probably start picking scripts with less pluck and more emotional range -
but she's good in triumph-over-minor-adversity roles. It's a cliché she's
good at giving dimensions to, and I wish more actors would play to their
strengths instead of trying to carry movies in parts that don't fit them
(cough Kevin Spacey cough).
Tara
But isn't that exactly what she's doing with these period pieces - "The
Importance of Being Earnest" (flop) and "Vanity Fair" (The Ghost of Flops
Yet to Come)? If Reese Witherspoon were really going to resolve to play to
her strengths, she'd embrace a future as a character actor playing bitchy
roles (like a shorter Parker Posey, say) and quit trying to force herself
into the mold of a romantic comedy cutie.
