Prince Charles & Camilla Arrive in New York
By JILL LAWLESS
The Associated Press
Tuesday, November 1, 2005; 5:21 PM
NEW YORK -- Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, paid tribute to
victims of the Sept. 11 attacks Tuesday as they began a weeklong tour
of the United States _ a trip the British press predicted would cause
little excitement among Americans.
After arriving in New York City on a private chartered jet, the couple
traveled by limousine to Ground Zero for a tour of the site. The couple
then went to nearby Hanover Square to unveil a memorial park to the 67
Britons who died when the hijacked jets slammed into the World Trade
Center.
They walked around to greet some of the several hundred well-wishers
and onlookers who gathered behind barricades at the square.
Camilla seemed relaxed, smiling broadly as she accepted a bouquet of
flowers from a small girl. The Duchess of Cornwall, who has been trying
to project a more glamorous image, wore a dark rose Italian wool crepe
jacket and dress with velvet chiffon trim.
Speaking at reception for relatives of the British Sept. 11 victims and
supporters of the memorial garden project, Prince Charles said he and
his wife had been "profoundly moved" by their trip to Ground Zero, "not
just the scale of the outrage but the deeply distressing individual
stories of heroism and of loss."
"Our hearts go out to you today as they did on that dreadful today,"
said Charles, who met privately with families before the unveiling
ceremony.
Referring to the July 7 bombings of London's transit system that killed
52 people along with the four suicide attackers, he said "both our
nations have been united by grief and strengthened by the support we
have given each other."
The tour, which is designed to celebrate ties between Britain and
America and promote Charles' environmentalist causes, is the first
official overseas trip for the 56-year-old heir to the throne and his
wife since they married in April.
British media, however, predicted the couple would fail to capture the
attention of Americans in the same way as Charles' 1985 official visit
when a radiant Princess Diana danced with John Travolta at a White
House dinner.
Papers in London took note of a USA Today/CNN/Gallup Poll, which found
59 percent of Americans surveyed saying they were "not at all
interested" in the visit, 22 percent were "not too interested," 13
percent were "somewhat interested" and 6 percent were "very
interested."
Nineteen percent said they would like to meet Charles and Camilla in
person, compared to 31 percent who, in an ABC News/Washington Post poll
in 1985, said they would like to meet Charles and Diana.
Gallup interviewed 1,008 people 18 and older in the United States by
telephone on Oct. 21-23. Gallup said the survey had a sampling error of
plus or minus three percentage points.
"The trip has been dismissed as a 'royal bore' by Americans," The Daily
Mail newspaper said Tuesday, quoting a headline in USA Today.
At Hanover Square _ named for King George I of Hanover _ a cadre of law
enforcement officers stood near a line of police barricades and
hundreds of people gathered, many holding banners and cameras, eager to
take snapshots or perhaps shake hands with the royal couple.
"I've been following this man since I was in grade school in Minnesota.
I wrote papers about him," Thomas Rex Campbell, a writer who grew up in
White Bear Lake, Minn., said of Prince Charles. "I very much admire him
for his breadth of vision on the world. He's interested in everything
from farming to classical architecture. He's the best-educated Prince
of Wales ever."
The memorial garden, which is due to be completed next summer, is
designed as a green corner of Britain in Manhattan, with topiary trees,
boxwood hedges and a sculpture by artist Anish Kapoor.
Later Tuesday, Charles and Camilla were to attend a reception at the
Museum of Modern Art that Charles' office said was a chance for the
couple "to meet a good cross-section of interesting and influential New
Yorkers." Guests invited to enjoy champagne and organic canapes with
the couple included Robert De Niro, Steven Spielberg, Sting, former
Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and actress Kim Cattral.
The prince and duchess also were to meet with hurricane victims in New
Orleans, homeless people in San Francisco and President Bush at the
White House.
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Tuesday that Bush was open
to discussing any topic with Charles, stressing it was primarily a
social visit.
Bush "looks forward to the visit. He's glad to talk about whatever
issues Prince Charles may want to bring up," McClellan said.
It is also part of a careful palace plan to win acceptance for the
duchess, long reviled in the British press _ and among Diana-philes _
as the woman who broke up the royal romance. "There were three of us in
that marriage," Diana told a television reporter in 1995.
Charles and Diana divorced in 1996; Diana was killed in a car crash in
Paris the following year.

Actually she said it was ONE OF THE MOST humiliating, not the single
most humiliating. From what I read she's helped the living hell out of
the store, spending money like a drunken sailor and even giving them
the most valuable free advertising a store could ever hope for, and
then in her time of need she was locked out and not even allowed to
make a fast last minute purchase, just because she was a little late.
But the part that really gets a lot of people angry is that Gayle was
there, and Gayle thinks she saw people in the store still shopping,
while the woman who helped the living hell out of the store was locked
out.
Can you imagine helping someone as much as Oprah helped Hermes, and not
only do you not get a thank you, but in your time of need, whhen all
you ask in return for all the help you've given them is the chance to
run in and buy a very specific watch, they essentially kick you in the
ass and want you to fuck off.
I don't even know Oprah and it makes my blood boil just thinking about
it. Can you imagine how she must feel?
I bet if it it had been a blond blue eyed celeb like Princess Di they
would have been like "Oui Madame, Please come on in, it's never too
late for you to shop."
And I bet Princess Diana wouldn't even need to spend a dime there and
she still would have got that VIP treatment even an HOUR after close.
It makes me so angry the way black people are always treated second
rate, even when they are the world's ONLY black billionaire and the
greatest black philanthropist ever, there's still someone somewhere who
will find a subtle little way to disrespect them.
The only way it will ever change is if black people DEMAND to be
treated with every bit as much as respect as a white person under
identical circumstances. Some people might think Oprah's being petty
but those people don't have a brain in their head.
Oprah's brilliant and savvy woman of the world who knows EXACTLY what
type of treatment white billionaires and white celebrities get she
wants every single bit as much respect as they get. Not 80% as much
respect. Not 99%. Not 99.9999999999999999999%. 100% !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oprah is one of the richest AND most influential AND most
philanthropic people in the entire world. There's not a person on this
earth who deserves more respect and attention than Oprah, and a black
woman who made it to the top deserves every bit as much right to expect
to be treated like royalty anywhere on this earth she chooses to go.

Sex, drugs and Princess Margaret
by REBECCA ENGLISH, Daily Mail
08:03am 19th August 2005
Princess Margaret is to be portrayed as a promiscuous drug-user and drunk in
a television drama.
The explicit Channel Four film, to be screened in November, shows the
Queen's late sister performing a sex act on her husband before cheating on
him with her lover Robin Douglas-Home.
In one shocking scene Margaret is depicted taking marijuana at a party and
looking 'overly-emotional' at another 1960s bash where many of the revellers
are obviously on LSD.
The £2million film, entitled The Queen's Sister, also shows Margaret
indulging in a lesbian kiss with 50s socialite Sharman Douglas.
While its makers insist it is a 'witty and irreverent royal romp', the drama
has deeply angered friends and family of the princess, who died three years
ago.
Lord St John of Fawsley, a friend for more than 50 years, described it as a
'desecration of her memory'.
'The princess was one of the most intelligent, beautiful, charming and
fascinating women of her age,' he said.
'No one would ever say she led a blameless life - indeed she could give one
quite a nip when she wanted to.
But that was all part of what made her such a wonderful, complex woman.
'There is simply
no need to portray her life in such an explicit way and I consider any
attempt to do so a betrayal of her memory and an insult to the Queen.'
Her former lady-in-waiting, Lady Davinia Alexander, called on viewers to
boycott the programme, saying: 'The production company has taken the life of
a very dignified woman and despite the lack of any co-operation from her
family and friends has turned it into a tawdry soap opera.'
A spokesman for production company Touchpaper, commissioned by Channel Four
to make the drama, yesterday insisted that while 'not totally factual' it
was, nevertheless, based on 'painstaking research'. In fact the film is
believed to be largely based on a controversial biography by journalist Noel
Botham.
In it the author claims Margaret had a passionate lesbian affair, was
unfaithful to her husband and drank excessive amounts of whisky.
It also claims that after her frequent rows with Lord Snowdon, the couple
would make love so furiously that she would bang her head on the wall of her
bedroom in Kensington Palace.
The film is one of the 'highlights' of Channel Four's autumn season,
launched yesterday.
Margaret is played by newcomer Lucy Cohu, whose biggest role until now was
in ITV's Soldier Soldier. She said: 'Margaret was the Princess Diana of her
day and people forget how incredibly glamorous she was.
Margaret had a lot of sex, but who doesn't? She was the first rock and roll
princess and I connected with her energy and her insatiability for life.
'She was a woman trying to do the right thing at the right time, trying and
failing and falling in love.'
The drama portrays Prince Philip, played by Shameless star David Threlfall,
as a cynical bully.
In one scene he tells Snowdon - actor Toby Stephens - while the Royal
Family's never-ending diary
of public engagements is tedious, 'there's always a bit of striking totty
about'.
He adds: 'One cannot be blamed for seeing to one's own duty while the wife
is seeing to hers.'
Other key figures in the late princess's life who make an appearance in the
two-part drama are first love Peter Townsend, the divorced war hero she gave
up for the sake of the monarchy, and her toyboy lover Roddy Llewellyn.
A source close the programme makers said: 'The drama is an account of
Margaret's life through the 1950s, 60s and 70s when she was the most
glamorous and highly publicised woman of her age.
'It documents the princess's life when she was running with this fast,
attractive, sexy set, the likes of which had never been seen before.
'Yes, there is a lot of sex in it, but Margaret was a very sexual woman who
was, in part, defined by her relationships with men, which was especially
fascinating as she was part of such a repressive family.
'It is not a documentary, though, and there is a lot of invention.'
Last night Lord Snowdon, who has previously described the drama as
'outrageous and disrespectful' was unavailable for comment.
The princess's son, Lord Linley, declined to comment. But a friend said: 'He
and his family are very upset.
'He doesn't want to give the programme the oxygen of publicity by commenting
but feels very strongly that it is in extremely poor taste.'

As far as Jessica goes, I really think she believes her own hype! I
still don't know what she's famous for other than those hooters she
keeps tucked away and teasing everyone with.

Found, the man who can debunk Diana death myths
EXCLUSIVE by DAVID WILLIAMS, RICHARD KAY AND STEPHEN WRIGHT
11:02am 30th July 2005
The French believe that Diana died as the result of a simple road traffic
accident
A crucial new eyewitness to the Princess Diana death crash has been traced
by British police, the Daily Mail can reveal.
The witness has been interviewed by detectives and the evidence casts a new
light on the case, demolishing the many conspiracy theories surrounding the
accident in a Paris underpass.
The startling development - almost eight years after she died - came as
French judicial sources revealed that Diana was speaking on her mobile phone
when the black Mercedes hit a tunnel pillar, killing her, Dodi Fayed and
driver Henri Paul.
Scotland Yard officers will trace the call to discover who she was talking
to, what her conversation related to and what the person on the other end of
the phone heard.
It is seen as an important part of efforts to build up a picture of Diana's
state of mind at the time of her death.
Claims that Paul was "blinded" by a bright light have been completely
discounted and the mysterious Fiat Uno said to have been involved in the
tragedy played no part, according to French officials briefed by British
detectives.
Codenamed Operation Paget, inquiries continue but the Mail understands
investigators have so far uncovered no evidence to contradict the French
findings that Diana died as the result of a simple road traffic accident.
This breakthrough, part of the exhaustive investigation by former
Metropolitan Police chief Lord Stevens, is seen as a vital step in
establishing once and for all how Diana was killed.
The circumstances surrounding the crash on August 31, 1997, have been
shrouded in bitter controversy with Dodi's father, Harrods owner Mohamed,
insisting that British agents killed Diana to prevent her embarrassing the
Royal Family by marrying a Muslim.
Key questions answered
But the Mail has learned that many of the key questions over the accident in
the Pont d'Alma tunnel have now been answered by investigators.
The official French inquiry blamed the deaths on a simple road traffic
accident caused by excessive speed and Henri Paul, a drunk behind the wheel.
British police have now discovered that Paul was working for the French
security services and that shortly before the fatal journey met his
'handler', it is believed for a briefing over a drink.
The official French inquiry revealed Paul was three or four times over the
drink drive limit when he left the Ritz hotel in the centre of Paris with
the couple and bodyguard Trevor Rees- Jones, closely followed by the
paparazzi.
The French judicial sources have also told the Mail that the Yard inquiry
has established:
Diana was definitely not pregnant.
She was not planning engagement or marriage to Dodi.
Lord Stevens will interview Prince Charles but not William or Harry.
Police have received 'unprecedented co-operation' from MI5 and MI6.
MI6 was not monitoring Diana or Dodi on the night of the crash.
Diana and Dodi would have survived if they were wearing seatbelts.
Ex-butler Paul Burrell has been questioned about a note said to have been
written by the princess ten months before she died, in which she claimed
Charles was plotting to kill her in a car accident.
The sensational details emerged in Paris, where British detectives have
worked closely for months with their French counterparts.
Limo back in Britain
They came as the black Mercedes S280 limo arrived back in Britain to be
forensically examined by the country's leading accident investigators, who
will look at whether the brakes had been tampered with or any part of the
vehicle sabotaged.
French experts from the Institut de Recherche Criminelle de la Gendarmerie
Nationale, who examined the vehicle, had concluded the Mercedes had low
mileage and had been in perfect mechanical and working order - however, it
had been involved in an earlier crash.
Police, who have painstakingly probed the history of the £60,000 vehicle,
now know it was at the centre of a 'shunt' some nine months earlier. They
urgently need to see whether that compromised its safety.
The Pont d'Alma underpass is an accident blackspot and detectives have
analysed each previous crash as well as the condition of the tarmac.
Detectives want to find out just who decided on the route the party took.
Was it Dodi, was it perhaps the French 'handler' or a third outside party?
According to French sources, this is seen as central to the investigation.
Part of the investigation now ongoing involves constructing a 'virtual
reality' film re-enactment of Diana's final journey.
The computerised image - similar to a video game - will reproduce the car's
speed, its weight with four adults aboard, the condition of the road
surface, the slope of the road, the weather, visability and other traffic.
Sources are confident that it will show that no driver, however skilled,
would have been able to prevent the Mercedes crashing if it was travelling
at that speed in those circumstances.
Royal Coroner ordered probe
The Royal Coroner, Michael Burgess, ordered the probe by Lord Stevens and a
small team of detectives in April 2004. In February last year the underpass
was sealed off to enable the officers, including Lord Stevens, to inspect
the crash site themselves.
Despite a French judge's conclusions that the deaths were a result of
nothing more than a traffic accident caused by Paul's drinking, conspiracy
theories persisted - fuelled by Mohamed Fayed.
Initial claims that the pursuing photographers prompted the crash were ruled
out by the French inquiry but other allegations persisted to support
suggestions that the princess and Dodi were victims of an Establishment
murder plot.
One suggestion was that a blinding flash from an anti-personnel stunning
device lit up the tunnel immediately prior to the crash, dazzling Paul.
The persistent allegation concerns the 'role' played by a Fiat Uno that was
said to have deliberately clipped Diana's car as it entered the Alma tunnel.
Its alleged driver, paparazzo James Andanson, died two years later in a
burned-out car.
Mr Fayed has hired the leading QC Michael Mansfield to represent him at
Diana's historic inquest when Lord Stevens's report will play a central part
in proceedings. No date has yet been set for the inquest.

LONDON - Prince William learned Saturday that he had achieved a master
of arts degree in geography. The 22-year-old son of Prince Charles and
the late Princess Diana logged onto the Internet to discover that he
had received a 2:1 grade for his four-year course at St. Andrews
University, Scotland.
A 2:1 denotes an upper second-class degree, a very respectable
achievement.
The prince, who is second in line to the British throne, did better
than his father, who received a 2:2, or lower second class degree for
his honors degree in history at Trinity College, Cambridge.
"William got an upper second class honors (degree). He's delighted.
Everyone is absolutely delighted. His father's very proud," said a
spokesman for Charles's Clarence House office.
William said last year that he was hoping to get a 2:1 but a lot
depended on his 10,000-word dissertation on coral reefs.
The prince, who turns 23 later this month, had a somewhat rocky start
to his academic life in the isolated Scottish town in Fife.
In his first term, he struggled to adjust but eventually settled down
after switching his course from history of art to geography.
St. Andrews became a haven for the prince, with the media largely
adhering to his father's request that he be left alone during his
studies. Locals grew used to having a royal around town.
William, who will graduate at the end of June, plans to sign up for
military training at Sandhurst, the prestigious military academy south
of London where his younger brother, Harry, began his studies last
month.

Princess Diana's Wedding Dress Auctioned for $2 Million
Fragments of late British royal Diana, Princess Of Wales' wedding dress are
being sold on internet auction house eBay - for a staggering $2 million. The
seller Gavin Young claims he was given the fabric pieces from his parents,
who received the gown from London dress designers Elizabeth and David
Emmanuel following Diana's 1981 wedding to Prince Charles, as a thank you
gift, because their daughter Kerry had been their children's au pair for
nine months. Young has placed the five scraps of silk and lace in the
higher-priced property section, but insists the remarkable price tag is
negotiable. He says, "They are possibly the most exclusive and undoubtedly
unique piece of royal memorabilia ever to come out of England. Obviously, if
the price is right, I'd be a fool not to sell. It depends who wants it."

Bravo Brooke! Saw you on Oprah and applauded as you blew the lid off of
the whole "motherhood is holy" syndrome. Very brave of you. Brought
back memories of Princess Diana's remarks about her postpartum
depression.
The greatest thing about what you did is, knowing that as you talked
about what you went through, you were reaching hundreds if not
thousands of other mothers at home who were sobbing in relief,
realizing that they weren't the only ones to be afflicted. Bravo bravo
to you!
P.S to Cruise...butt out dude, you don't KNOW what you're talking
about!

2 separate issues, but thanks for muddling up the logic. Plonk.

First of all, you hosed the rest of my reply in which I explained why I
thought one had nothing to do with the other.
Secondly, the juror crying was not molested by the perp so your example is
logically misplaced -- but sorry for your experience, anyway.
