NEW YORK - ABC is moving its hottest show, "Grey's Anatomy," to
Thursdays in the fall as part of an aggressive schedule that will bring
at least 15 new series to the air next season.
Ted Danson, Taye Diggs, Calista Flockhart, Anne Heche, David
Arquette and Rachel Griffiths are among the stars that will appear in
new ABC series, the network announced Tuesday.
ABC has also left the newsmagazine "Primetime" off its fall schedule
for the first time since its introduction in 1989. But ABC News said
"Primetime" will remain in production for specials, limited-run series
and perhaps as a replacement for a failed entertainment program.
ABC is the only one of the major networks to increase its ratings over
last year on the strength of hits "Grey's Anatomy," "Desperate
Housewives" and "Lost." But the rest of its schedule was weak, forcing
the network to make an uncommonly large number of pilots.
Moving the medical soap "Grey's Anatomy" to 9 p.m. Thursdays sets up a
battle with one of TV's most popular shows, "CSI: Crime Scene
Investigation" on CBS, and NBC's most-touted new series, "Studio 60 on
the Sunset Strip."
"There's a lot of history of big shows going up against one another and
there's plenty of room for both," said Steve McPherson, ABC
entertainment president.
ABC canceled "Commander in Chief," leaving Geena Davis as a one-year
president, although a two-hour movie may be made with the same cast.
"Invasion," "Hope & Faith," "Jake in Progress" and "Sons and Daughters"
were among the other shows left off the schedule.
Flockhart and Griffiths star in "Brothers & Sisters," a drama about a
maladjusted family. Danson is a self-help guru going through a midlife
crisis in the comedy "Help Me Help You," Heche is a relationship
counselor who moves to Alaska in the drama "Men in Trees" and Diggs is
in "Day Break," a thriller that uses elements of the movie " Groundhog
Day."

Producers of the MICHAEL HUTCHENCE biopic are trying to convince
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN star JOHNNY DEPP to play the late INXS
frontman.
The film is being fast-tracked and most of the production will take
place in the singer's homeland of Australia.
In addition to Depp, film-makers are also looking to cast ERIC BANA,
SIENNA MILLER, NAOMI WATTS and RACHEL GRIFFITHS in the movie.
The film's tentative title is SLIDE AWAY, which refers to the duet
Hutchence sang with U2's BONO, according to website MovieHole.net.
Contrary to press reports that the late singer's family was not happy
about the film, producers say Hutchence's estate is cooperating with
the production.
The movie's director NICK EGAN, who directed some of INXS's most
popular videos, has been working with the singer's brother, RHETT on
the film. (SS/WNWCMVH/ES)

Pilots take flight
From: AAP By Peter Mitchell in Los Angeles
March 28, 2006
US TV executives have their fingers crossed that some of Australia's best
known actors, including Rachel Griffiths and Simon Baker, will lead their
networks to ratings gold.
The US networks have just unveiled their plans for new TV series and it was
largely bad news for the many Australian actors who travelled to the US to
audition for roles during Hollywood's traditional pilot season.
In past years, Australian actors with little experience in the US have
emerged with key roles in major new TV series, but the networks went with
established American and Australian names this year. It continues a new
trend in US TV where new series need a major star to launch the show.
There is also less of a stigma for movie stars to attach themselves to TV
series.
Along with Griffiths and Baker, the other Australians who booked roles on
new TV series were Melissa George, Alan Dale and Jonathan LaPaglia, younger
brother of Anthony LaPaglia, who is the star of Without a Trace.
The American film stars turning to TV included James Woods, Ray Liotta,
Virginia Madsen, Jeff Goldblum, Ving Rhames and Alicia Silverstone.
"It was quite an extraordinary pilot season for Australians," Rob Marsala,
a Perth-born talent manager in Hollywood and the president of the LA-based
Australians in Film organisation, said.
"Usually there are a few Australian actors who are not well known in the US
who score roles in a TV series, like Emilie de Ravin did for Roswell and
Ryan Kwanten did for Summerland a few years back.
"This year it was Australia's better known actors who are established in the
US who had the success."
A pilot is the first episode of a proposed TV series and pilot season runs
in Los Angeles from February to March.
More Australian actors each year make the pilgrimage to LA to audition for
the more than 100 pilots on offer.
But even if an actor wins a role on the pilot, there is no guarantee it will
be picked up by a US TV network and turned into a TV series.
Of the 120 pilots produced last year, only 48 were picked up.
Already 15 have been cancelled after poor initial TV ratings and two other
pilots might never air. It is usually only the successful US series that
make it to Australia.
Griffiths, returning to TV after her successful stint on Six Feet Under, and
Jonathan LaPaglia, scored two of the plum roles in the ABC network's new
drama, Brothers & Sisters.
Brothers & Sisters has already created plenty of buzz in the US as it also
marks the return to primetime TV of Calista Flockhart, best known for her
Ally McBeal legal comedy-drama series which ran from 1997-2002.
George, a veteran of many pilots that never went to air, will star in NBC's
Lipstick Jungle, a series based on the book by Sex and the City author
Candace Bushnell.
The show, according to NBC, will follow "the sexy, funny, and dramatic
stories of three friends balancing life and career, who also happen to be
three of the most powerful and influential women in New York".
Former Neighbours star Alan Dale, best known to US audiences for the teen
hit The OC, will star in the new TV drama Ugly Betty, which is set at a
fashion magazine.
Baker, who has carved out a successful film career with LA Confidential, The
Ring 2 and the upcoming The Devil Wears Prada and who starred in his own US
TV drama, The Guardian, a few years back, returns to the small screen in the
star-studded TV series, Smith.
Baker's co-stars are last year's best supporting actress Oscar nominee for
Sideways, Virginia Madsen, and tough guy actor, Ray Liotta.
Other well-known actors in pilots include Friends' Matthew Perry in Studio
60 on the Sunset Strip, Heather Locklear in Women of a Certain Age, Rhames
in Aquaman, and Everybody Loves Raymond's Brad Garrett in 'Til Death.

NY DAILY NEWS...RUSH AND MOLLOY
Hollywood's hot couples were out in force on Oscar night. But while
some bronzed themselves in camera flash, others dodged the shooters.
Madonna did her best to dispel rumors of marital discord by making sure
every photographer outside the Vanity Fair party got a picture of her
with smiling husband Guy Ritchie. Likewise, reunited couple Nicollette
Sheridan and Michael Bolton trumpeted their love.
"I'm a lucky palooka," Bolton told us as he admired his Desperate
Housewife. He even sang to her: "Love is lovelier, the second time
around ..."
Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn, on the other hand, came =ADseparately
to editor Graydon Carter's exclusive party at Morton's. Seeing him,
Aniston screamed, "Baby!" and ran over to her big lug for a long kiss.
Later, they evaded the lensmen by sneaking out a side exit.
George Clooney and Krista Allen also kept photographers guessing. The
Best Supporting Actor celebrated his win at Dan Tana's with Madonna and
Guy, Rachel Weisz and Darren Aronofsky, and other friends. But "The
Insider's" Marc Malkin says he heard that Clooney and Allen also
slipped out the back while the Ritchies distracted paparazzi.
Among the other devoted duos at the Vanity Fair bash: Nicole Kidman and
Keith Urban (touching each other under a table); Jennifer Lopez and
Marc Anthony; Sandra Bullock and Jesse James; Taye Diggs and Idina
Menzel; Rachel Griffiths and Andrew Taylor; Jessica Alba and Cash
Warren; Jennifer Jason Leigh and Noah Baumbach; Brittany Murphy and Joe
Mancuso, and Kerry Washington and David Moscow.
Revlon billionaire Ron Perelman turned up stag at the party, where he
hit it off a few years back with soon-to-be-ex-wife Ellen Barkin. Keanu
Reeves came without Lynn Collins. Hilary Swank, who's been working her
way back to hubby Chad Lowe, arrived without him - but she was
wearing her wedding ring.
Swank, who presented Philip Seymour Hoffman with his Best Actor trophy,
reassured the "Capote" star when he forgot to thank his girlfriend,
Mimi O'Donnell. "No one forgot like I forgot," said Swank, who famously
neglected to mention Lowe when she won her first Oscar. "But people
will understand."
Hoffman told us the whole experience was "nerve-racking." (At least he
didn't have to "bark" his acceptance speech, as he once promised
director Bennett Miller and writer Dan Futterman in a drunken moment.
"They let me off the hook, but said, 'If you do bark, we will meow,"
recalled Hoffman.)
Of course, Robert Altman was there with his wife of 47 years, Kathryn.
Having revealed in his Oscar speech that he had a heart transplant 10
years ago, Altman admitted that he worried then that "no one would hire
me." Kathryn recalled how they got USA Today to "correct" a Variety
story reporting the surgery. "We denied it like hell," she said. "And
his career went on. It had a happy ending."
Elsewhere at the Vanity Fair party, worlds collided when novelist
Salman Rushdie hung out with Three 6 Mafia, who won gold for "It's Hard
Out Here for a Pimp." "That's the song I was really rooting for," said
Rushdie. "I really liked 'Hustle and Flow.'"
Rapper Juicy Jay was not as familiar with Rushdie's "Satanic Verses,"
but he did like the poetry of Rushdie's wife, Padma Lakshmi, as the
model and actress shook to the music on top of an ottoman. "Oooh," said
Juicy.

Flockhart Set for New TV Series
By WENN| Friday, February 24, 2006
HOLLYWOOD - Former Ally McBeal star Calista Flockhart is returning to TV
in the drama series Brothers and Sisters.
The actress will join Six Feet Under star Rachel Griffiths in the
night-time soap, which features siblings who wind up running the family
business after their father dies.
The show will mark Flockhart's first return to regular TV series since Ally

Griffiths was last seen as Brenda Chenowith on Six Feet Under, which
finished last year. The actresses will join cast members Balthazar Getty and
Ron Rifkin for the new show.

My guess is that she'll go with something more traditional for this
child, especially if it's a girl. Banjo wasn't random, he was named
after an Australian poet, who's nickname was Banjo (I think). I could
be wrong, though. Kinda like Travolta and Preston naming their son
Jett, and then naming their daughter Ella. It seems the majority of
the crazier names are given to boys, not girls.

Thank you and to everyone who responded. I am reading the baby names (link)
and its hilarious.
Btw, maybe we can suggest some names for baby Rachel. She's got a Banjo, so
how about, 'knee'?

I think her name is Roxy or Roxie.
> Helen Hung - Makena'lei
> Casey Affleck and Summer Phoenix- Indiana August
A nod to Summer's late brother, River Phoenix, who played a young
Indiana Jones.
> Nancy McKeon - Aurora
> Beck - Cosimo Henri

Salome is Hebrew for peace.
> Shannyn Sossamon - Audio Science (this IS the worst one so far)
I heard recently that Audio Science is a band. Don't know if that's
true or not.
> Paula Yates -Fifi Trixibelle, Peaches and Pixie
Don't forget youngest daughter Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily. Peaches'
middle name is Honeyblossom.
> Rob Morrow - Tu (tu-morrow get it?)
A terrrible thing to do to a child. It's worse than a horrible first
name.

> Jaimie Oliver - Poppy Honey and Daisy Boo

Great job. I only have two to add.
Shawnee Smith who was on Becker - daughter Verve, named after the now
defunct band The Verve
Pirate - son of Jonathan Davis (Korn) and his wife

Pilot Inspektor - Jason Lee and his fiancee
Audio Science - Shannyn Sossoman and her boyfriend
Jermajesty - Jermaine Jackson and his wife
Rachel Griffiths is due to give birth again in a month or two. I
wonder what she'll name this child?
