Joking Jerry takes the Mick out of Romeo Jagger
by RICHARD SIMPSON, Daily Mail
07:55am 19th October 2005
Putting the boot in: Jerry Hall
It's been all over for six years now.
But that didn't stop a giggling Jerry Hall making a few well-aimed digs at
the expense of her philandering ex-husband.
The 48-year-old actress and model spoke frankly of Mick Jagger's weakness
for women as she hosted a fashion awards night in Monte Carlo.
And as the audience - including Victoria Beckham, Mariah Carey and Prince
Albert of Monaco - hooted with laughter, Miss Hall seemed to revel in a
little light-hearted revenge.
Asked on stage by her co-host Jeremy Irons whether Sir Mick might host the
event with her next year, she replied: "Are you insane? Have you seen how
many models there are here? Even he couldn't afford the child support
payments."
A few moments later, the unfortunate Jagger was in her sights again.
Asked whether she had tried a spot of betting during her stay in Monte
Carlo, she replied that she didn't gamble, as she always ended up losing.
Irons persevered and Miss Hall admitted that she did like betting on "the
fillies". She then added: "Of course, Mick always liked betting on a lot of
fillies at the same time.
"Unfortunately, the last filly he bet on, I got to keep the house".
Father of seven
Jagger fathered his seventh child, Lucas, with model Luciana Morad while
married to Miss Hall, the mother of four of his children.
After years of putting up with his unfaithfulness, the affair with Miss
Morad was the last straw.
Miss Hall promptly divorced him and did indeed get to keep their £7million
home in Richmond, South West London. After a protracted paternity battle the
62-year-old Rolling Stones singer was also forced to pay child support for
his son with Miss Morad.
As the night dragged on, Miss Hall appeared to be taking every opportunity
to bemoan her life with Sir Mick. On another occasion, she said: "My advice
to the models here is take it easy on yourself - and don't have four kids."
Her candid views on her former husband were not quite as colourful as her
outfits. She changed eight times during the show, wearing gowns from
Vivienne Westwood, Roberto Cavalli, Tommy Hilfiger, Alexander McQueen, Dolce
& Gabbana, Prada and Armani.
After the broadcast, she declared: "Now I have nothing to wear for the after
party - I've already been seen in all these dresses."
The Fashion Rocks show, which is in aid of The Prince's Trust, will be
televised worldwide. It will be seen in Britain on Channel 4 on Saturday
night.
Victoria Beckham, who appeared in a revealing Cavalli dress, insisted that
she did not diet to keep her increasingly slender shape. "I keep fit by
running after my three boys all day," she said.
Blondie singer Deborah Harry arrived at the awards on the arm of designer
Tommy Hilfiger. Her trademark blonde hair had been dyed a dazzling red.
Mariah Carey, who teamed up with designer Donatella Versace, declared: "It's
an honour for Donatella to come here and dress me tonight. I find her like a
little Barbie doll who is always beautiful to look at."
Other guests included Ozzie, Sharon and Kelly Osbourne, Bon Jovi, Emma
Bunton, Rachel Stevens and Craig David.

Who is the hit-doctor?
by LAURA BENJAMIN and NICOLE LAMPERT, Daily Mail
When a pop star's career is on the critical list, there seems to be one
infallible way to bring it surging back to life.
Send for the hit-doctor, Cathy Dennis.
She it was who provided Kylie Minogue with her biggest hit in ages, Can't
Get You Out Of My Head.
Celine Dion, Will Young and Rachel Stevens have all benefited from her
golden touch.
And on Sunday, when Britney Spears celebrated her first British Number One
in four years with the song Toxic, there are no prizes for guessing who she
had to thank.
Cathy Dennis, now 34, enjoyed only middling success as a star in her own
right but she has since developed a phenomenally successful songwriting
talent which has earned her millions.
Last month, she picked up her first Grammy Award for penning Kylie's hit
Come Into My World.
Two years ago she won a clutch of Ivor Novello songwriting gongs for Can't
Get You Out Of My Head. And the song she wrote for former S Club singer
Rachel Stevens, Sweet Dreams My LA Ex, was narrowly beaten by Dido in the
best single category at this year's Brits.
She wrote Toxic last year, with Britney especially in mind.
Yet despite her success she shuns the celebrity lifestyle, preferring to
spend time alone with her two dogs in her £1.2million house in Richmond,
South-West London.
'I love music but don't like parading around in small costumes,' she has
said. 'After a while, I lost my addiction to being an artist.'
Simon Fuller
Cathy Dennis's showbiz career began at 16, when pop Svengali Simon Fuller
spotted her performing in a nightclub in her home town of Norwich.
The man who would later create the Spice Girls put her together with a dance
outfit called D-Mob. They scored a string of hit singles in the U.S. and UK,
including C'mon and Get My Love.
She subsequently released a string of solo songs, peaking with Touch Me (
All Night Long), which reached number five in 1991.
But by 1997 the hits had dried up and, in desperation, she enrolled on a
course to learn the art of songwriting.
Fuller then introduced her to former Mud guitarist Rob Davis, another artist
on his songwriting roster, and the pair eventually came up with Can't Get
You Out Of My Head - the song which turned Kylie into an international star.
' Sometimes you can be so focused on pleasing somebody else that a track
becomes obviously manufactured,' Miss Dennis said. 'Can't Get You Out Of My
Head was a lot more self indulgent because we didn't have anyone in mind
when we wrote it.'
The song proved to be a worldwide success - in 2001 alone it was aired
45,577 times on UK radio and is estimated to have reached a total audience
of 1.15billion.
S Club 7 and The Spice Girls
Miss Dennis has also been the brains behind songs written for the
now-defunct teen band S Club 7, the Spice Girls, Hear'Say, Gareth Gates and
American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson.
In 2002, she co- wrote Will Young's first Number One hit, Anything Is
Possible. The song eventually became the biggestselling single of 2002.
For now, Miss Dennis is seemingly content to continue with her low-key
lifestyle and compose more hit songs in the studio she has had built on to
her four-bedroom house.
Never married, she recently admitted: ' I don't have a boyfriend. That's one
area of my life I haven't quite sussed out yet.'
She remains close to her parents Alan and Linda, who run a pancake
restaurant in the centre of Norwich, visiting them every six weeks.
Last night, her mother said: 'Of course we are very proud of her. She hasn't
got her head in the clouds. She still has her feet on the ground.
'We don't like to give interviews because whenever she is written about
people pester us for an introduction to Cathy or they give us tapes to pass
on to her.
'We like to stay in the background for that reason. At the end of the day
it's about her and her talents.'
From Sunny Oz, Rick :)

Not as bad as Cindy Crawford, who signed a petition and did anti-fur ads and
now is doing ads for Blackgama mink. What a hypocrite!! What's the problem -
she hard up for cash?

Beyonce blasted by animal rights campaigners
December 2, 2004, 11:42:02 Beyoncé Knowles, Kate Moss and Paris Hilton have
been blasted by animal rights campaigners for wearing rabbit-fur boots.
The famous beauties are among a host of celebrities who are fans of the
Canadian Mukluk boots, which cost around 259GBP a pair.
But animal rights organisation People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
(PETA) claimed rabbits are cruelly killed to make the boots, which have
trademark pom-poms.
Spokesman Sean Gifford said: "The rabbits are sourced from Asia and love
crammed into small, wire boxes before being electrocuted or strangled. Many
are skinned alive.
"As far as we can see, this kind of treatment is what celebrities - those
who don't give a damn - are supporting.
Fake fur looks every bit as good." Supermodel Kate Moss, who once appeared
in a "rather go naked than wear fur" advertising campaign, owns two pairs of
Mukluks, while pop babes Britney Spears and Rachel Stevens are also said to
be fans of the furry boots.
This is not the first time Beyoncé has come under fire from PETA, whose
supporters include Charlize Theron, Pink and Stella McCartney.
She was recently slammed for expressing her love of wearing leather and fur.
Other stars to anger the organisation in the past include Robbie Williams,
who used video footage of a chimpanzee playing with a gun on his recent
tour, and Ben Affleck, for buying ex-fiancée Jennifer Lopez a chinchilla fur
coat.

A smashing life Kylie ...and you're only 36
08:50am 22nd November 2004
String of hit singles: Kylie Minogue
She may be just 36 but in the fickle world of pop music that makes her a
veteran.
Kylie Minogue has celebrated her durability by receiving a lifetime
achievement award.
The Australian singer was handed the accolade at the Smash Hits Poll
Winners' Party 2004 at Wembley Arena for her 17-year contribution to the
music business.
Since making her name in Neighbours, she has had 31 hit singles including I
Should Be So Lucky.
She also revealed yesterday that she is ready to settle down with boyfriend
of two years, Oliver Martinez.
Minogue said she did not want to rush into marriage but confessed that she
was feeling broody.
She added: "Most of my fans want motherhood to happen for me. If and when it
happens, then great!"
Britney Spears, who recently married dancer Kevin Federline, was nominated in
seven Smash Hits categoriesbut won nothing. Instead, former S Club 7 singer
Rachel Stevens was named best dressed and most fanciable female.
Boy band Busted won three awards but their rivals McFly won five, including
star of the year, best UK band and best single for Five Colours In Her Hair.
The band's Danny Jones, who was named most fanciable male, said: "I'd like

Jerk.

Bono's a jerk too so I guess they're well matched.

Aside from that idiot Chris Paltrow I don't know who any of these people
are - and I bet 20 years from now no one will remember who they were!

Band Aid on rocky ground
By MATTHEW BAYLEY and CLEMMIE MOODIE
November 16, 2004
IT was meant to be a re-creation of one of pop's finest moments, where the
cream of the British music scene came together in the name of charity.
Instead it turned into a ego-fuelled squabble between one of rock's elder
statesmen and a flashy young pretender.
The 20th anniversary of Band Aid was hit by an alleged row involving U2's
lead singer Bono and Justin Hawkins of The Darkness over the new recording
of Do They Know It's Christmas?
Hawkins had been given the task of singing one of the most famous lines
"well tonight thank God it's them instead of you" originally sung by Bono,
who did not attend the weekend recording.
Insiders said Hawkins did so with aplomb, leaving Bono's contribution to the
project, which he had recorded in Ireland, apparently in doubt.
On Sunday an angry Bono was said to be on his way to the UK to re-record the
line, after his management insisted his version had to be included, even if
it was only the performance from 1984.
"Bono's people say he definitely has to do that line," one insider said.
"Justin's version was brilliant, but they are adamant."
Hawkins said last night: "I did it and I did it better than him. So his
management kicked up a stink. It obviously means a lot to him. It's a
valuable line for him, he needs it, so I think he's going to fly back and
try again to beat me.
"If not, they're going to use the original one he did when he was my age."
It is not the only controversy prompted by the new recording.
Sir Paul McCartney, who plays bass guitar on the song, was banned from
singing because he was too old, and artist Damien Hirst's CD cover had to be
scrapped because it was deemed to be too disturbing.
On Sunday, only Band Aid founders Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure were present
from the 1984 line-up as a new generation of pop stars recorded thesong at
Sir George Martin's studio in Hampstead, North London.
Among them were Will Young, Jamelia, Ms Dynamite, Rachel Stevens, Natasha
Bedingfield, the Sugababes, Busted, Katie Melua, Damon Albarn, Lemar,
Coldplay's Chris Martin and Travis singer Fran Healy. Robbie Williams and
Did had already recorded their lyrics.
Sir Bob is said to have reduced many of them to tears by showing them a
video of the Ethiopian famine 20 years ago.
Band Aid 20, which will raise money for famine relief in the Darfur region
of Sudan, will be released on November 29 and is expected to be the No. 1
Christmas single.
The original song, which featured stars including George Michael and Duran
Duran, raised $19.3 million.
Some of the stars on the new version were not even born when the original
was made. Soul singer Joss Stone, 17, admitted she had never heard of
Geldof, who she called Bob Gandalf.

Boomtime for the Geldof girls
by NICOLE LAMPERT, Daily Mail
08:36am 29th October 2004
Savvy sisters: Pixie and Peaches are comfortable in the limelight
Their parents gave them names that ensured they would stand out from the
crowd.
But Peaches and Pixie Geldof no longer need a helping hand from family to
make their way in the world.
Confident and articulate, the daughters of Bob Geldof and the late Paula
Yates are becoming a fixture on the London celebrity circuit in their own
right.
Together at a party, Peaches, 15, and Pixie, 14, looked a poignant mix of
their father, who founded the Boomtown Rats, and their mother, a TV
presenter and columnist.
Peaches, who has her father's angular face but her mother's daring dress
sense, has written newspaper articles and also has a regular column in a
magazine for teenage girls.
In a recent article, she showed she was as outspoken as both her parents on
the challenges of family life.
"We emulate those closest to us," she wrote, "so Mummy dearest drinks,
smokes and reads stacks of fashion and celebrity magazines, then aren't we
likely to turn out this way?"
Pixie, 14, who has her father's dark hair but her mother's elfin face,
started her own media career yesterday. She appeared as a presenter on a
one-off programme It's a Girl Thing! for the satellite channel Sky Mix.
The girls, who have an older sister Fifi, 21, and an eight-year-old
half-sister Tiger Lily from their mother's affair with Michael Hutchence,
live with their father and his French girlfriend Jeanne Marine in Battersea,
South-West London.
Fifi has moved out to live with a boyfriend. She too is starting a career in
television, although she has chosen to go behind the scenes as an intern at
MTV.
Despite their father's attempts to keep them out of the limelight,
especially during the trauma of the deaths of Hutchence and their mother,
all three have become regulars on the London celebrity circuit.
Peaches and Pixie were among the guests at a party organised by a hair
product company. They mingled with guests including actresses Sadie Frost
and Tina Hobley, singer Rachel Stevens and DJ Harriet Scott.
"It was a party for cool young women and they are two of the coolest
teenagers around," said one of the organisers.
"They certainly did not shy away from the cameras. They appeared very
confident and intelligent young women."

Holly hurt by Paris claims
By Patrick O'Neil and Luke Dennehy
October 27, 2004
HOLLY Valance has denied she was the mischievous matchmaker who set up Mark
Philippoussis and Paris Hilton.
Bond ... Holly Valance, right, with friend and former co-star Delta Goodrem
/ File
Valance said last night she was deeply hurt by allegations she had any role
in the split between the Scud and her former Neighbours co-star Delta
Goodrem.
"I categorically deny ever having had a conversation with Mark in my life,
let alone playing matchmaker with one of my friend's boyfriends," she said.
"Delta and I worked together briefly on Neighbours and (the allegation)
absolutely sickens and disgusts me.
"What is more upsetting is the fact that Delta has to hear from the media
that one of her fellow co-workers and a friend has tried to destroy what I
knew to be a very positive relationship."
Valance and Hilton recently finished shooting the film National Lampoon's
Pledge This in the US. The pair play sorority sisters.
But Valance said she only spent seven days working with the hotel heiress
and did not know her socially.
Valance said she only had a small role in the film, her first acting attempt
since her stint as Flick on Neighbours.
The pop star's mother, Rachel Stevens, said her daughter had only met
Philippoussis once.
The Scud dumped Goodrem on October 13 after a 10-month love affair.
Philippoussis blamed the split on his desire to focus on his flagging tennis
career.
Just days later, Hilton revealed the Scud was her latest partner.
Goodrem has withdrawn from some interviews in London to avoid the spotlight
on her split with the tennis player.
