They're Making a Three Musketeers Movie. . .Again
You won't hear me denying the timelessness of Alexandre Dumas' adventure tale, The Three Musketeers. However, I'm fascinated that Hollywood feels the need to endlessly adapt the novel. And by "endlessly," I mean this movie's been made a lot.

I checked the photo on that Raquel Welch page.
She looks like a girl I spent the night with in Mission Beach in 1992,
or, was it 1962. She called herself Carmen and also worked for a TV
station. She was an animal, and she appointed me to tame her. I used a
chair but not a whip.

K. I dunno, Fonda fit the comics visual pretty perfectly. Raquel would
have been interesting though. It certainly would have been a different
movie. A google search turns up some hits that claim she turned down
Barbarella, and also that she turned down the Black Queen. That would have
been interesting for her.
> Raquel said in

That I can't see at all. Hmm. Just looked her up in IMDb. Her movie career
didn't really start until after Gilligan. She was doing tv sitcom guest
spots at the time. So it's certainly possible. Still, she'd have been a
Mary Ann that was more movie star than Ginger!
A google search backs that up too, with a lot of hits:
"Who was supposed to play Gilligan before Bob Denver was cast in the part?
Jerry Van Dyke. (Carrol O'connor was the first choice for the Skipper, Jayne
Mansfield was the first choice for Ginger, and Raquel Welch'>Raquel Welch'>Raquel Welch'>Raquel Welch auditioned for
the part of Mary Ann.) "

No, I don't have a cite, because Raquel Welch'>Raquel Welch'>Raquel Welch'>Raquel Welch said it in her Larry King
interview a couple of years back. It was in response to King asking her
about some roles she had turned down and if she had any regrets. She
didn't regret turning down "Barbarella," and that's too bad, because she
would have been perfect for that sci-fi campiness thing. Raquel said in
that same interview that she was up for the role of "Mary Ann" on
"Gilligan's Island," and I never heard that before either. And get
this: She was considered -- but turned it down -- to play "Alice" in
Martin Scorsese's "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore." As much as a I
love Raquel, there's no way she has the emotional range to pull that one
off. Ellen Burstyn was great in that. That definitely turned out to be
the right thing.
As for as Fonda being "hideous," give me a break. She's just older.
And she was never ugly inside. She was just rebellious and idealistic.
It was a strange time. I'm past it all. I'm even at the point where
I think Nixon was a pretty good guy. Sure, he committed crimes, but ALL
the presidents were doing that stuff.
You guys should get past it. All that hate ages you, makes your bones
hurt.

Well, first, you said she's "one fine woman" -- I honestly didn't realize
you were referring to her being physically attractive.
Yes, she was damn hot 30 years ago. She's pretty much hideous now. And
she's always been ugly inside.
I never heard of Raquel Welch'>Raquel Welch turning down Barbarella before. Got a cite?

Boy, your hatred has you really all knotted up, doesn't it? It's like
your straining to shit out your hatred but it's too big for you to pass.
I love it. You and your buddy Rich, constantly carping. You loser.
Well, most heterosexual males think she's a nice looking woman, and she
always has been. Yeah, it's true. Check into it, you right-wing fruit.
That's why they offered "Barbarella" to her after Raquel Welch turned
it down.

Lawsuit Filed Over Reynolds Movie
An unreleased movie starring Burt Reynolds and Raquel Welch is at the
centre of a $4 million lawsuit. Businessman Michael Paloma is seeking $4
million he says he invested in Forget About It, plus compensatory and
punitive damages against Beverly Hills Film Studio, and all records for the
movie which was filmed in the Mesa area of California last year. The
lawsuit, filed in Maricopa County Superior Court in February, claims Paloma
and director BJ Davis signed a memorandum of understanding to create the
film studio. The agreement gave Paloma's company, Red Rock Entertainment, a
51 percent interest and Davis a 49 percent interest. The suit says Davis
subsequently resigned as the studio's president and was replaced by Kimberly
Kates, who agreed to finish the movie under the deal Paloma made with the
Beverly Hills studio, then backed out, according to the complaint. The
studio has changed its name to Bigscreen Entertainment. Bigscreen attorney
Michael Gardiner says, "It is our position that we are 100 percent owner of
the copyright, and it will be coming out. It's in post-production."

I think Pitt's problem is he doesn't know how to pick good s.
I mean, when you figure how many screenplays over the years the guy must
have been offered (he's been in the A-list forever), and how many he must of
have turned down.
I mean he's picked some good projects including Se7en and Snatch (small part
though) but I have a feeling he's turned down a lot of great stuff in
favour of just crap.
Sure, he's had some great small parts in lots of flicks and he's done some
interesting work, but had he or his team made better choices he would
have had a remarkable carreer.
I mean, Brad Pitt's got it all. The looks, charisma, talent -- but when you
think about cinema and the history of cinema -- Brad Pitt ain't going to be
down with the greatest. Not even sure if any of his films have made any of
the AFI lists (at least film's he's starred in, not bit parts like in Themla
& Louise).
Wakeup call to Pitt -- get better readers to advise you -- artistic
and box office success can be achieved!!

Not quite 70yo, but no reason they shouldn't be as attractive in just
a few more years.
There alre also many more actors either in or very near their 60's
that shuold make for equally striking 70yo's; Suzzanne Sommmers (58),
Stephanie Powers (62), Connie Stevens (66), Priscilla Presley (59),
Cheryl Tiegs (57)..
I've got nothing against a skinny Tina Louise, but IMO, she's got
plenty of good looking 70'ish year old company! :-) ..

Burt should have three Oscars:

I've met him briefly a number of times and he maybe difficult to work

And as far as "washed up", he has at least two movies in the can, "Cloud

He's also now filming with Adam Sandler and Chris Rock a remake of that
old football prison movie of his.
He's FAR from washed up.

Miss Piggy and Raquel Welch dueting on "I Enjoy Being a Girl."
Love that pig!

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - William Shatner will forever be Captain Kirk to most,
or a bombastic lounge singer to a musical cult following. But it's Denny Crane
that's winning him some hardware.
Shatner picked up a Golden Globe for his performance as boastful lawyer Crane
on "Boston Legal," a few months after winning a guest actor Emmy for the same
character in "The Practice" last year.
"I'm truly thrilled," he said. "I really wanted to win."
He wasn't buying any backstage talk of a comeback. "I don't feel I've ever
left," he said. "I've been gainfully employed all these years."
It would be just like Crane to ask for a raise for his work.
"And so will William Shatner," he said.
___
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — "Wouldn't you like to know!" a saucy Anjelica
Huston replied when asked backstage about what a woman over 40 knows that a
woman under 40 doesn't.
She turned serious, however, when she talked about Hollywood life for a
maturing actress. She picked up her first Golden Globe award after eight
nominations for HBO's "Iron Jawed Angels."
"I spent a lot of my youth feeling insecure," said Huston, 53. "I look back at
those pictures and think, `What was wrong with you?'"
Huston had been considering wearing a daring white dress designed by Stella
McCartney, but figured it was a magnet for red wine. So she wore a simple black
Calvin Klein.
"Maybe that's one of the things you learn after 40," she said. "You don't show
too much skin."
___
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — First-time attendees trekked down the red carpet
taking in the glamorous gowns, screaming fans, camera flashes and long line of
journalists.
"It feels like we're going to somebody's wedding or a prom," said Denis Leary,
nominated for best actor in a dramatic series for "Rescue Me."
Another rookie was Thomas Haden Church, nominated in a supporting movie role
for playing Paul Giamatti's vain actor sidekick in "Sideways."
"I'm just moving along in a herd of famous people. Whenever they go to water,
I'll go to water. When they go to feed, I'll go to feed," Church said.
Sharon Warren, who played the mother of a young Ray Charles in "Ray," worked
the carpet on her own. Without a publicist hovering nearby, Warren introduced
herself to reporters with a firm handshake.
"I'm from Alabama," she said. "The South is debutante balls, teas and
luncheons. This is like debutante balls, teas and luncheons rolled into one
with famous people."
___
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — The storms that battered Southern California
cleared out several days ago, but there was a flood on the red carpet.
A barrel containing bottled water fell over with a thud while being wheeled
toward the end of the carpet near the entrance to the Beverly Hilton. Water
from melted ice gushed out, creating a flood that workers feverishly tried to
blot with white towels.
"This is what counts as a disaster in Hollywood," joked actor David Cross
(news) of Fox's "Arrested Development."
The Globes not only escaped the rain that has been the rule in Southern
California lately, but with temperatures pushing toward 80, the day felt more
like summer than midwinter.
___
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — "Desperate Housewives" co-stars Eva Longoria and
Marcia Cross (news) shared a true Hollywood moment, exchanging air kisses and
compliments on their dresses as they passed each other heading in different
directions.
Enjoying her first major success on the ABC series, Longoria said she knows why
the show has been a breakout hit.
"People were tired of reality TV and crime dramas," she said. "It was something
different and new and it was accurately what women go through today."
___
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Raquel Welch remembers when stars played it fast
and loose with their outfits on the red carpet.
"In the '60s, people were not so careful. There were a lot of different faux
pas," she said. "They dressed like they felt. They would do outrageous things.
We never talked about the labels. It was considered gauche."
Welch said Hollywood's younger stars should take some fashion risks.
"I'm over-the-hill," she said, "but I'd like to see people be a little less
conservative and let it hang loose. We're actors in Hollywood, not the first
lady."
Welch, 64, won a Globe in 1975 as lead actress in a musical or comedy for "The
Three Musketeers."
___
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — What was Kathy Griffin thinking?
The comedian, doing red-carpet reporting duty for E!, made repeated and
apparently joking references to 10-year-old actress Dakota Fanning entering
drug rehab. She even went so far as to ask Michael Cera and Alia Shawkat,
teenage co-stars on Fox's "Arrested Development," if they had any words for
Fanning as fellow young people.
Messages left for Fanning's representatives were not immediately returned.
Griffin co-starred with Brooke Shields in the '90s sitcom "Suddenly Susan. Her
other credits include TV's "Celebrity Mole: Hawaii" and the role of "armed
female" in the 1999 movie "Muppets From Space."

Kylie's year of posing dangerously
By Toby Forage
September 20, 2004
KYLIE Minogue has shattered her promise to "cover-up", getting back in the
black stockings and revealing garb for a set of raunchy new photographs in
her 2005 calendar.
Calendar girl ... Kylie's cover for 2005.
The 36-year-old beauty is featured in a month-by-month chronology of sexy
shots by a collection of world-class photographers, including a stunning
cover by fashion snappers Mert & Marcus.
Kylie is seen on the front page in a shimmering mermaid dress atop jagged
rocks, evoking memories of Raquel Welch's fabulous turn as Loana in One
Million Years B.C. in 1966.
In other shots, she is seen on the beach in a steamy "wet look" image, and
wandering down a hotel corridor in nothing but a men's shirt, black
stockings and strappy black stilettos.
Other photographers given the chance to snap Australia's "Impossible
Princess" included Katerina Jebb, Tesh, and Xevi.
Kylie marked her own calendar some months ago with a vow to ditch the
raunchy image that has made her a global sex symbol for a more conservative
look.
Gone were the gold hotpants and tight dresses that sent pulses racing, and
in was collection of baggy tops, leg-shy trousers and often questionable
attire to keep her skin covered and her famous derriere out of the
spotlight.
But when it comes to visual necessities, Kylie appears to have been happy to
get back to basics and please her fans - not least the males among them.
Publishers of the calendar, Danilo, report that Kylie is the biggest selling
female calendar star in their 25-year history.
She has topped their official chart for three consecutive years,
consistently beating off the likes of Christina Aguilera and the late Diana,
Princess of Wales.
The calendar is already on sale via Kylie's website, although at £9.99
($25.60) it's certainly not cheap.

Burt should have three Oscars:
Deliverance, Starting Over, and Boogie Nights.
I've met him briefly a number of times and he maybe difficult to work
with as an actor, but he is one of the nicest celebrities I have ever
met.
And as far as "washed up", he has at least two movies in the can, "Cloud
Nine" and another one with Raquel Welch.
He's also now filming with Adam Sandler and Chris Rock a remake of that
old football prison movie of his.
He's FAR from washed up.

- In the mid and late 1960s she was positively ubiquitous, wearing a furry animal-skin bikini on a best-selling poster, but for all her exposure, Raquel Welch wasn't able to maintain a long-term big-screen career. A perennial beauty-contest winner who took ballet lessons and studied drama, she broke into films in 1964 with bits in A House Is Not a Home and Elvis Presley's Roustabout the following year she appeared briefly in A Swingin' Summer She supplemented her meager income by modeling, using her sensuous, high-cheekboned face and spectacular figure to help pay the rent. In 1964 she became the "billboard girl" on TV's "Hollywood Palace."
Divorced from high-school sweetheart James Welch, in 1965 she married former child actor and press agent Patrick Curtis, who charted a course for her career. She appeared in many European magazines, and landed a role in the Italian-made EB>. I Don't Understand (1966) that led to a contract with 20th Century-Fox. Fantastic Voyage (also 1966) gave her a costarring part in a hit movie, while the British-made prehistoric saga One Million Years B.C (also 1966) was promoted with a popular poster that made her a household figure, as well as name.
She followed up with Fathom (1967), Bedazzled (also 1967, as "Lust"), The Biggest Bundle of Them All, Bandolero! (both 1968), Lady in Cement (also 1968, opposite Frank Sinatra), Flareup, 100 Rifles and The Magic Christian (all 1969). Welch proved to have screen presence, and a sense of humor, but moviegoers were interested in her skin-tight costumes and bikinis, not her acting range.
Myra Breckinridge (1970) teamed Raquel with Mae West, the sex symbol of an earlier era, in a horrendous misfire. Hannie Caulder and Kansas City Bomber (both 1972) followed, but her starring days were numbered. She fared best in en semble films like The Last of Sheila (1973) and the send-up swashbucklers The Three Musketeers (1974) and The Four Musketeers (1975), which exploited the novelty of having her poke fun at herself. Other films include Bluebeard, Fuzz (both 1972), The Wild Party (1975), Mother, Jugs & Speed (1976), and Crossed Swords (1978).
In the 1980s she launched a cabaret act, and even made it to Broadway, taking over the lead in the musical "Woman of the Year." Her most prized personal project was the TV movie The Legend of Walks Far Woman in which she played an Indian woman at various stages of her life; filmed in 1979, it didn't air until 1982. Since then she has starred in other telefilms-1987's Right to Die and 1988's Scandal in a Small Town and Trouble in Paradise-and found a more positive way of exploiting her still-impressive figure with a series of best-selling exercise videotapes and accompanying fitness books. She played herself in The Naked Gun 33: The Final Insult (1994). Her daughter Tahnee Welch, also an actress, appeared in the all-star hit Cocoon (1985) and its 1988 sequel.
- "Americans have always had sex symbols. It'a time-honored tradition and I'm flattered to have been one. But it's hard to have a long, fruitful career once you've been stereotyped that way. That's why I'm proud to say I've endured."
- "The mind is an erogenous zone."
- "I couldn't stand that my husband was being unfaithful. I am Raquel Welch - understand?" - in 1973
- "Being a sex symbol was rather like being a convict."
- "Once you get rid of the idea that you must please other people before you please yourself, and you begin to follow your own instincts - only then can you be successful. You become more satisfied, and W_hen you are, other people will tend to be satisfied by what you do."
- Measurements: 37-22 1/2-35 1/2 (Source: Celebrity Sleuth magazine)
- Among her many beauty contest titles were "Miss Photogenic", "Miss Contour" and "Miss Maid of California" - all won while she was in her teens.
- Had a notorious backstage feud with the indomitable Mae West on the set of "Myra Breckinridge."
- She was fired from Cannery Row (1982) and replaced by Debra Winger. She then sued MGM and won a $10 million judgement.
- Mentioned in the theme song of the 1980s TV hit "The Fall Guy".
- Husband Richard Palmer is a restaurateur.
- Turned down the lead in Barbarella (1968) - which eventually went to Jane Fonda.
