NY DAILY NEWS...RUSH AND MOLLOY
Now that Kate Moss has become a model of bad behavior, fellow catwalk
mama Heidi Klum is making a point of leading by example.
"I try to be a good role model - I am a very healthy person and I
can't speak for people when they have certain issues," Klum told us
yesterday, when we tried to corner her about Moss. She would say,
however, that resisting the temptation of an unhealthy lifestyle is
"not that difficult, really," even for models and celebrities.
The "Project Runway" creator came out to the Los Angeles Grove Tuesday
to support kids from the Home Youth Center, who were auditioning to be
Top Hat dancers in the annual Christmas show.
Klum, who just gave birth to a son, Henry, said she shares diaper duty
with her hubby, Seal, and she hasn't even tried to shed her baby weight
yet.
"Our son just turned four weeks on Monday, so I'm trying to do not so
much yet. I'm going to start on Friday when my trainer is coming to
L.A.," she laughed. "I want to do everything the healthy [way]. I
didn't get that much out of shape. I think that's the key: to not go
too crazy when you're pregnant."
P.S.: Back to Kate, her steadfast pal Sophie Dahl wants it on record
that contrary to British newspaper reports picked up here on Aug. 16,
she never ignored Moss' cell-phone calls during an interview with a
British reporter, nor did she make any disparaging remarks about her
friend.

LATEST: SIR MICK JAGGER is reportedly furious with his ROLLING STONES
bandmate KEITH RICHARDS after he publicly claimed the singer has a
small penis.
The iconic rocker's romances with a string of international beauties,
including models SOPHIE DAHL and JERRY HALL, have earned him a
reputation as a legendary lover.
But last week (ends21AUG05), Richards said of Jagger, "Huge balls,
small c**k."
On hearing the news, Jagger reportedly stormed over to Richard's room
in Boston's Four Seasons Hotel before Sunday's (21AUG05) opening world
tour gig to vent his rage at the guitarist.
A backstage source tells British newspaper The Sun, "He practically
ran over to Keith's suite and had a stand-up argument. Mick was
offended and took the remarks personally.
"Keith just found it really funny. Mick went off in a huff and
refused to come out of his room.
"By the time they arrived at the venue the atmosphere backstage was
horrible." (AS/WNTSU/JB)

NY DAILY NEWS...RUSH AND MOLLOY
Kate Moss' family and closest friends again have been urging the
supermodel to break up with rocker boyfriend Pete Doherty since his
drug bust Friday in Norway.
The Babyshambles singer was headed for a rock festival when customs
officials in Oslo nabbed him and a pal at the airport, one for
allegedly holding 1.5 grams of heroin, the other for 1.7 grams of crack
cocaine. Oslo prosecutor Harold Holmsen wouldn't name Doherty, but
confirmed "two British citizens" were busted, registered as criminals,
and released hours later after Oyafestivalen organizers paid a fine.
Doherty joined Babyshambles at Medieval Park five hours late for their
show, which included a charming encore featuring him vomiting onstage.
The supermodel's mother, Linda, and Sadie Frost, Jude Law's ex, are
among those trying to get "Mossy" to wake up and break up with the
26-year-old train wreck, whom Linda calls "Crackhead." Perhaps most
freaked out is Jefferson Hack, publisher of Another Magazine and father
of the sloe-eyed beauty's 2-year-old, Lila Grace, who wants Doherty
nowhere near his daughter.
Johnny Depp, who lived with Moss for four years, had lunch with the
couple in London after the "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"
premiere, and reportedly encouraged Doherty to get clean, talking about
how fatherhood had changed his own life. (Doherty has a 2-year-old of
his own, Astile, with singer Lisa Moorish.)
Doherty has had several unsuccessful stints in rehab, and briefly did
jail for burglary and assault. He'd just hooked up with Moss at her
31st birthday party and she stuck with him.
The two were engaged in Las Vegas in June, but Moss threw the singer
out of her mansion shortly after he was involved in another messy
street brawl. They reunited, and Doherty thanked Moss for saving his
life, after admitting in a documentary then that he was "shooting white
[heroin] and brown [heroin]." In the flick, Doherty is seen snorting
white powder he kept hidden in a box of Crunchy Nut cereal stuffed with
drugs.
Moss reportedly paid roughly $30,000 for him to get a stomach implant
of Naltroxene, which blocks the high from opiates, including heroin.
"He's been calling her, begging her to help him, but her friends are
saying tough love is what's needed," says our insider. "She's just got
to put her daughter first now. And it's affecting her own reputation" -
and causing her to lose friends.
Indeed, while model-actress Sophie Dahl was being interviewed the other
day for a British paper, she ignored Moss' repeated cell phone calls,
telling the reporter, "She's changed since she's been with him. I just
don't want to get involved."

Brunettes Beat Blondes
Brunettes have triumphed over blondes in a list of the world's 100 most
beautiful women.
The top five in the Harpers & Queen magazine list, compiled by 1,000 experts
from the worlds of fashion, arts and the media, are brunettes.
Hollywood beauty Angelina Jolie topped the poll, followed by supermodel
Christy Turlington, Queen Rania of Jordan, film director Sofia Coppola and
domestic goddess Nigella Lawson.
Blondes such as supermodel Kate Moss, Kill Bill star Uma Thurman and Lost in
Translation's Scarlett Johansson are in the top 100, but have been relegated
out of the top five.
Harpers & Queen editor Lucy Yeomans said: "We were really surprised when the
brunettes came out on top.
"But from our panel results, we witnessed a definite shift away from the
traditionally deified blonde stereotype.
"Instead, people with a more unusual and interesting beauty ranked higher.
"We encouraged people to vote on the all-round package, rather than on
physical beauty alone, so it was great to see less obvious beauties such as
film director Sofia Coppola making the top five."

The upside of being upsized
March 19, 2005
As large as life ... Queen Latifah.

Obesity is shedding its stigma as the glitterati join the "fat pride"
movement, writes Michelle Griffin.
Fatness has been the new smoking for a while now. The medical establishment
has declared obesity the No. 1 health problem in the developed world, and
government officials and private law firms are scrambling to respond with
get-fit campaigns, bans on fast-food advertising and lawsuits aimed at
outlets that upsize.
The fight against fat has certainly enjoyed blanket coverage, from Fat Land,
Greg Critser's scornful book about American obesity, to the BBC's television
campaign Fat Nation - The Big Challenge, to the glossy magazines' breathless
advocacy of fat-melting diets.
But the inevitable response to the obesity campaign is the fat pride
backlash. This year sees the release of an off-Broadway play (Fat Pig,
written by Nurse Betty auteur Neil LaBute), a television show (Fat Actress,
starring Cheers alumnus Kirstie Alley), and a Hollywood film (In Her Shoes,
starring a plus-sized Toni Collette) that all highlight the notion of fat
pride. Then there are the new no-diet books, like Wendy Shanker's militant
help-yourself tome, The Fat Girl's Guide to Life.
"By any standard you can find - societal norms, a doctor's chart, a clothing
rack, my own personal ideals - I am fat," the New York comedian declares in
her introduction. "So go ahead and start thinking of me that way."
Like all the other leading ladies in the latest wave of fat pride popular
culture, Shanker wants to reclaim that three-letter word from the hall of
shame. But it isn't going to be easy, and it might not be a good idea.
"I'm all for the message that human beings come in different shapes and
sizes," says Dr Rick Kausman, the Australian author of If Not Dieting, Then
What? "You definitely can be size 16 and healthy. But when the message
becomes 'the bigger you are, the better you are', that's not helpful.
There's no question that lots of people are over their healthy weight, but
by focusing on the weight, we're not encouraging people to take care of
themselves."
Fat pride isn't new. In America, where there's a lobby group for everything,
the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance campaigns against
weight-based discrimination in workplaces, nightclubs and airplanes
(defeating plans to charge the extra large for an extra seat). Other fat
activist groups have faced off diet walkathons with the cheer "2-4-6-8, we
do not regurgitate!"
But the theatre, television and film platforms will take fat pride to the
mainstream.
The most corrosive treatment of the topic can be found in Fat Pig, by
professional misanthrope Neil LaBute. Like his movies In the Company of Men
and The Shape of Things, the new work plays with humiliation and
appearances. In the title role is Helen, a witty librarian whose romance
with software exec Tom is ruined because he's embarrassed to be seen with
her socially - she weighs 114 kilos and his colleagues don't hesitate to
show their revulsion. While Tom and Helen have real chemistry, he can't
handle the scorn, especially from his svelte ex, Jeannie.
For Ashlie Atkinson, the actress who plays Helen, the play is about courage,
not contempt: "Loving your fat girlfriend when people make fun of her," she
told The Washington Post. It was also about "feeling positive about yourself
when all the messages you get from society and the media tell you you should
be ashamed of yourself."
As the show's audience has been packed out with senior Hollywood players
like Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, we can confidently expect it to become
a movie sooner rather than later. Perhaps, this time around, they'll cast a
fat actress instead of an actress in a fat suit.
They could contact Kirstie Alley, the Cheers star who gained 45 kilos over
the past four years. Her new sitcom Fat Actress debuted earlier this month
on the US cable network Showtime (with Australia's Network Ten having an
option to broadcast the show later this year), after months of publicity.
Alley even appeared on Oprah to proclaim that she'd been celibate since the
turn of the century because she didn't want to have "fat sex", and then went
on to say, mixing the message, that she didn't even think she was fat until
the paparazzi started stalking her.
The new sitcom is a hybrid reality show, crossed with improvised comedy.
Based on Alley's own experiences in Hollywood, it stars Alley as herself,
and features cameos from famous friends, like her Look Who's Talking co-star
John Travolta. The storylines were planned in advance, but there was no
. Alley says she came up with the concept when the work dried up.
The debut episode opens with Alley bawling out the agent who told her there
were no leading roles for fat people.
"John Goodman's got his own show and Jason Alexander looks like a freakin'
bowling ball!" she screams. "And how about James Gandolfino [sic]? He's like
the size of a whale! He's way, way, way fatter than I am!"
Although the show is going to play on the humiliation of being overweight in
the land of the underfed starlet, Alley insists she won't play victim. "I do
not consider fat a disease," she says. "I mean, c'mon, who had the gun to my
head? Nobody! What gene in my body says I have to eat four cakes instead of
two? It's a choice."
Alley is set to join a long list of big leading ladies who have been both
celebrated and reviled on the small screen, including The Practice's Camryn
Manheim, who dedicated her Emmy to "the fat girls", and Sara-Marie Fedele,
the Big Brother contestant who swapped her bum dance for the tango when she
shed 20 kilos to go Dancing with the Stars. The trouble is, these women talk
about loving their curves, but they can't maintain their fame without losing
the weight anyway (and getting publicity over that.)
Cyndi Tebbel, the former editor of New Woman magazine who wrote The Body
Snatchers: How the Media Shapes Women, has noticed that audiences are more
willing than programmers to celebrate big women on screen.
"Casey Donovan is another example," she says. "Although her career has been
marginalised since she won [Australian Idol] and that's interesting, too.
You get all these women who are celebrated for being big and beautiful,
Sara-Marie, or Sophie Dahl or [comedian] Julie Morris, but they all diet."
In Hollywood, the big girl with the highest profile is Bridget Jones, but
Renee Zellweger's public revulsion over the "flab" she had to carry to look
like a normal woman - and the fact that she shrunk to whippet-weight right
afterwards - did nothing for the Fat Pride cause. Only Queen Latifah can
carry a movie and a few extra pounds, and she's been losing weight, too.
This year sees the release of one mainstream film that celebrates fat pride
directly - In Her Shoes - a movie based on the novel by Jennifer Weiner, an
author whose books always feature plus-sized heroines. But rather than give
the lead role to a bigger actress, the producers cast Toni Collette, who had
to gain 20 kilos, Muriel-style, for the part - another stunt weight gain
(and post-production loss).
In the film, the fat sister, played by Collette, eventually gets the man and
the thin sister, played by Cameron Diaz, gets the come-uppance. Like all the
fat pride projects, In Her Shoes has enjoyed plenty of advance publicity,
but Fox studios doesn't seem keen to cash in on the new mood - the release
date has just been booted back from April to October. Maybe it's being kept
back for the awards season. Or maybe Hollywood's just not ready to ride the
Fat Pride wave.

Aaaah....I always overlook one important clue, in this case the
"reality series" one.
I thought of Dahl because the trashy magazines here have been carrying

What relevance D-list British 'slebs like Sohie Dahl (or that oxygen

What the gossip mags say
By Jacqueline Maley
May 25, 2004
Breeding and blubber are on the hitlist for this week's goss mags, and as
the pictures show, you cannot have one without the other.
The fecundity of the stars is astounding - like lemmings with no access to
birth control, they are procreating for the planet, single-handedly solving
the fertility crisis of the Western world.
Who magazine kicks off proceedings with "exclusive photos" of Gwyneth
Paltrow, Chris Martin and their new daughter, Apple. Yes, Apple. Was she
named after New York, after the daughter of a friend, or in honour of
Mummy's favourite fruit, the mag wonders? Perhaps Chinese Gooseberry was too
unwieldy. And Banana leaves the poor lass vulnerable to lewd jokes from the
kids at school. Yes, yes, quite right, better to play it safe with Apple. Et
voila, they continue the grand showbiz tradition of giving their kids
ridiculous, cruel names. No doubt next week they will declare their
intention to raise the child as normally as possible.
For its part, New Idea tries to comfort young Apple by pointing out it could
be worse. Indeed, celebrity spawn everywhere should count their lucky stars
they were not born the child of Frank Zappa - he named his daughter Moon
Unit.
But Paltrow and Martin are not the only ones popping them out. Cate
Blanchett, Courtney Cox, Geena David, Debra Messing, Kate Hudson - Hollywood
has turned into one giant creche.
Woman's Day, for one, is not buying into the yummy mummy phenomenon. As it
reveals in its cover story, "Stars who baby binge", it's only when stars are
hidden by the cover of pregnancy that they can allow themselves to actually
eat. Like, meals and stuff.
And of course, once you've eaten the first doughnut, or taken the first
spoonful of ice-cream direct from the tub, the snake is in the garden. The
horse has bolted. There is no going back (at least not until the yoga guru
and the macrobiotics instructor step in after birth).
Thus the truth is revealed. Don't believe what the stars say about "loving
children" or "wanting to experience the wonder of motherhood". In fact,
getting knocked up is simply an elaborate excuse to eat, in large
quantities.
New Idea ups the ante on the flab theme with its cover, the simple yet
eloquent "Body hell". NI's thesis, and a valid one, too, is that stars do
not starve themselves because they are vain. Nor do they binge because they
like food, or because they are hungry. No, they do it because they have
emotional problems. Lisa Marie Presley feels guilty about stealing another
woman's lover, so she hits the doughnuts. Sophie Dahl is worried about her
mother, so replaces food with cigarettes.
For NW, any excuse will do to bring up the Beckhams' marital problems again,
and this time they blame Becks's alleged dalliances for Posh's shock weight
loss. Her resemblance to a lollipop is growing ever more marked, although,
as Who illustrates, it is only when you put Posh next to a photo of Michael
Jackson that the doppelganger bells really start ringing.

KYLIE Minogue is heading home - and bringing boyfriend Olivier Martinez to
meet the folks.
The trip home is "imminent" according to British newspaper The Mirror, with
other reports suggesting Christmas is the perfect time to meet the parents.
And now she has Olivier firmly in her clutches, meeting the family and all,
she's letting loose on that other guy, James Gooding.
What was it that split the pair? Surely it was his flings with Sophie Dahl
and Davinia Taylor.
Nup, nothing like that - it was her work which killed the relationship, she
said.
"I just worked and worked and worked. I put on hold all the things in my
life that needed dealing with or sorting out or attention and time," she
said.
"You live and learn and I really don't harbour any bad feelings towards him
or that period."

Aaaah....I always overlook one important clue, in this case the
"reality series" one.
I thought of Dahl because the trashy magazines here have been carrying
photos and stories of her "dramatic and dangerous weight loss".
What relevance D-list British 'slebs like Sohie Dahl (or that oxygen
thief "Jordan" for that matter!) have to Australian magazine readers I
have no idea. At least we've been spared the UK "reality" shows.

But isn't Peter Andre one of yours? At the moment, he's "closely
associated" with Jordan...

She certainly doesn't. The average person in the uk wouldn't have a clue
who she is.

AFAIK, Sophie Dahl hasn't been on any reality shows, and wasn't
especially *busty* before. The only "busty models" featured here in the
UK (on successive years of "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here") have
been Nell somebody or other and Jordan (both "Page 3" models, but
neither especially rich). The "busty" singer/presenter who won "I'm a
Celebrity..." (Kerry McFadyen?? Sorry, my web connection's knackered
just now, so can't check - she was a member of Atomic Kitten and is the
wife of an ex-Westlife member, and is probably wealthier than anyone
else mentioned in this post) has just slimmed down and been on lots of
magazine covers here. And another "busty" actress (from one of the
soaps) just won Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen.
FWIW, Jordan (aka Katie Price) is, or is soon to be, less busty due to
"reducing the size of her implants in an effort to be taken more
seriously". Simon Cowell is lining her up as a presenter for a new
program he's developing.

Hey peoples - this is a BRITISH BI, so they don't give a shit about
Anna Nicole Smith.
Try Sophie Dahl, who has had numerous recent articles published about
her "dramatic weight loss" from being an outsize model to having her
bones showing through her skin...
- Celebrity Gossip
- (2003) Living in New York City and London.
- On her ideal of happiness: "Being incredibly rich, living in Italy, cooking pizza barefoot and pregnant."
- "I'd rather be treated like any other model - being booked because a client likes the look of me, not because I'm size 16 with big tits. There's nothing sexual about model's typical androgynous skinniness."
- "To my detriment, I'm quite rosey-visioned about the idea of love. It's slightly embarrassing but it's part of who I am."
- Her mother is an author Tessa Dahl.
- Was immortalized in her grandfather's story, "Sophie the Big Friendly Giant".
- Measurements: 39 1/2-28-373/4 (Source: Celebrity Sleuth magazine)
- Granddaughter of actor Stanley Holloway
- Granddaughter of Acadamy Award winning actress, Patricia Neal.
- Dating actor/director Griffin Dunne. [2000-present]
- In addition to modeling & acting, she also writes short stories, several of which have been published in various magazines.
- Was first discovered by Isabella Blow, a Vogue stylist/fashion expert who also lived in Sophie's building. Sophie had just had an intense argument with her mother, and was sitting on the front steps of their apartment weeping. The two women (who up until that point were strangers) struck up a long conversation, & Isabella was awestuck by Sophie's beauty. Soon after, she referred Sophie to Sarah Doukas of the Storm modeling agency in London.
