LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Former "Friends" star Lisa Kudrow
and her producing partner, Dan Bucatinsky, have signed a two-year TV
development deal with her old employers at NBC.
Under the pact, NBC Universal Television Studio will get the first
crack at the duo's comedy and drama projects, moving Kudrow and
Bucatinsky's 3-year-old production venture Is or Isn't Entertainment
from its original home at Warner Bros. TV.
"Lisa and Dan have an incredibly sophisticated and distinctive taste,"
said Shelley McCrory, senior vice president for comedy series at NBC
Universal TV. "They are a great talent magnet, and they are very
prolific. She is a great performer and producer, and he is a terrific
writer, so the two are a great team."
While the deal is for Kudrow and Bucatinsky's services as producers,
Kudrow is said to be open to starring in a project the two develop if
the right one comes along.
Under their earlier pact with Warner Bros., Kudrow and Bucatinsky
developed and produced such projects as the HBO comedy series "The
Comeback," which starred Kudrow, and the pilots "All In" for NBC, an
untitled comedy starring Aisha Tyler for CBS and "Beck and Call" for
UPN.
Additionally, Is or Isn't produced the 2003 ABC Family film "Picking Up
and Dropping Off," and Bucatinsky wrote and executive-produced the 2005
CBS pilot "The Commuters."
Kudrow's long history at NBC as a co-star on the network's hit comedy
"Friends" and her great working relationship with NBC Entertainment
president Kevin Reilly over "All In" was a factor in the duo's decision
to ally with NBC Universal.
The two already are working on their first project under the deal -- an
adaptation of the book "But Enough About Me" by Jancee Dunn, which
Bucatinsky has optioned for television.
Kudrow and Bucatinsky are setting up meetings with writers from NBC
Universal's roster to discuss this and other projects.
Separately from the deal at NBC Universal, Is or Isn't Entertainment
has partnered with "Project Runaway" producer Magical Elves Prods. for
an uned show set in the world of sketch comedy.
The project, which draws on Kudrow and Bucatinsky's experience in
sketch comedy early in their careers, is in development at Bravo.

Meredith Viera, hostess of WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE?, would beg to
differ about the first part.
As far late night talk shows hosts, Joan Rivers was a hostess on the
proto-type to the Fox network way back in the 1980s--which reportedly
ticked off Johnny Carson, host of THE TONIGHT SHOW, since he found out
at the last minute and viewed it as kind of betrayal since she had been
the regular fill-in hostess when Carson took time off and she had been
lined up as the heir apparent to host THE TONIGHT SHOW when Carson
retired.
Now there are five late night talk shows on the major broadcast
networks. At times females have temporarily hosted the shows--and
reportedly Aisha Tyler was in the running to be picked as permanent
hostess of THE LATE LATE SHOW after Craig Kilborn left.

LOS ANGELES - It was a who's who of young Hollywood: Gwen Stefani and
husband Gavin Rossdale, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba, Hayden
Panettiere, Frankie Muniz, Amber Tamblyn, even Britney Spears' little
sister Jamie Lynn.
The occasion: the 7th annual Young Hollywood Awards presented by
"Movieline's Hollywood Life" magazine. The affair Sunday night was
hosted by actress Aisha Tyler, who said, "It's about celebrating the
best of young Hollywood - the best actors, the kind of people who
have started to build a career that we can all look at and go, 'Oh,
they're gonna go somewhere.'"
In some cases, they've already done better than that - like Lohan,
who was named "Today's Superstar."
"It's very strange," she told Associated Press Television News. "But
it's a huge compliment and an honor and I feel very blessed."
"Desperate Housewives" hunk Jesse Metcalfe was named "Exciting New
Face." Series co-stars Eva Longoria and Marcia Cross attended the
event to show support for the award.
"Do I have to explain that to you?" asked Cross. "Oh my God! You mean,
besides the fact that he's gorgeous and talented, apparently quite a
good musician."
"It means people are excited about you, I guess," Metcalfe said. "Maybe
people in the industry, or just the viewing public, you know, in
general, so that's a cool thing."
The media frenzy surrounding "Housewives" seems to be at an all-time
high, with near pandemonium exploding on the arrivals line when
Longoria and Cross hit the carpet.
"Everything concerning 'Desperate Housewives' has been a dream come
true, and I've been enjoying the ride," Metcalfe said. "As far as
dealing with the press and the paparazzi and the tabloids and that
stuff, you know it takes a little getting used to. But, at the end of
the day, it's not really that big of a deal. You just can't take it too
seriously."
As for the Young Hollywood Awards, "It's such an honor," said actor
Hayden Panettiere, named "Exciting Young Face." "It's amazing to be
amongst peers, and for anyone to even consider me for something like
this. I know kids don't get enough props, at all, for being in this
business, for working as hard as they do. So, to have a night in honor
of them is fabulous."
Presenting her award was actor John Corbett ("My Big Fat Greek
Wedding"), who worked with Panettiere on last year's "Raising Helen."
"You know, she's 16," he said of his co-star. "She's gonna be one of
those actresses, man. You know, when she's 25, 26, who are making good
movies, big movies."
Panettiere loves Corbett, too. "Oh, he's so hot," she gushed, with a
laugh. "I CAN say my father figure is hot, right?"

Aisha Tyler Was A Closet Meat Eater
March 15, 2005, 5:18:34
'24' star Aisha Tyler has revealed she used to rebel against her vegetarian
parents by eating meat behind their backs.
The sexy actress - who played Ross' girlfriend, Charlie, in 'Friends' - says
her parents wouldn't let her eat meat when she was growing up and instead of
doing the 'normal' teenage rebelling, she decided to eat meat.
She said: "I love food. I'm not someone who has ever been able to survive on
lettuce leaves. My parents were vegetarians and I went to school with
sandwiches with tofu and greens. None of the other kids wanted to trade
their lunches with me.
"When other kids were rebelling by smoking and drinking, I was going out and
sneaking meat on the side. It sounds crazy but my idea of rebellion was to
buy a turkey dinner and eat it without mum and dad knowing."
The stunning star also claims her vegetarian lunches made her unpopular at
school and said she had to try even harder to make friends.
She added in an interview with Britain's Night and Day magazine: "It forced
me to be funny and make friends. I had to assimilate with the other
youngsters even though I felt like an outsider."

By Kate O'Hare
It's Friday the 13th, and "Nip/Tuck" star Dylan Walsh looks like a man having a
very bad day. After arriving for work in the afternoon, he vanishes for a
while, only to emerge with a slash wound that runs from the right corner of his
mouth up his cheek.
While the startlingly real makeup job might freak out many actors, for Walsh,
it's just another day on the job of the FX drama about Miami plastic surgeons
(even if it does mean that dinner will probably be some form of liquid).
The show closes its second season Tuesday, Oct. 5, with guest stars Joan Rivers
(as herself) and Alec Baldwin. A third season is just about a sure bet,
although no formal announcement has been made.
"It's weird," Walsh says, wearing a hospital gown as he waits in his trailer.
"I'm so used to looking at people like this every day on the job. It's like a
freak show, one weird thing after another. We've had several people with this
particular thing, so you get used to it."
Walsh's character, Dr. Sean McNamara, is awaiting surgery -- by a guest surgeon
(Bruno Campos), not his partner, Dr. Christian Troy (Julian McMahon) -- to
repair the damage done by a serial slasher-rapist who has sent other victims to
the McNamara/Troy practice. Earlier in the season, Christian had surgery
himself to repair damage to his nose caused during an intimate moment gone
wrong.
Both incidents are emblematic of a season in which the partners, both of whom
have just turned 40, have found the focus shifting from patients onto
themselves.
"This year was turning around on us," Walsh says, "and letting us go through
some of the things that we did to people last year."
Along with going under the knife, the two surgeons have also seen their lives
opened up, as a long-ago, secret affair between Christian and Sean's wife,
Julia (Joely Richardson), was revealed, along with the shocking news that it is
Christian, not Sean, who is the father of teenager Matt McNamara (John
Hensley).
Despite all the soap-opera histrionics, Sean and Christian end the season still
unable to live without each other. Even when Sean punches Christian in the nose
in a rage, he still says, "I loved you the most."
As dramatic as this all is on screen, on set, it's another matter.
"This was one of those things where it's one o'clock in the morning, and Dylan
had that one line," McMahon says. "It's the only real time we saw each other in
the whole episode, except for right at the beginning. I grabbed him, and I said
-- talk about putting pressure on your co-star -- I go, 'This is the show.' He
got so mad. I said, 'You get this right, this is the whole show.'
"In a way, it's not wrong. There are many other things, but particularly the
relationship of these two men."
Walsh adds, "Ryan (series creator Ryan Murphy) always said he wanted to write a
love story about two heterosexual men."
A critical and commercial success, "Nip/Tuck" juggles an incendiary mix of
hyperbolic plot twists, interesting guest stars (this year's included Famke
Janssen, Aisha Tyler, Jill Clayburgh and Richardson's mother, Vanessa
Redgrave), steamy (bordering on soft-core) sex scenes, dark humor, social
commentary and graphic depictions of surgery. But, says Murphy, all of that
would be worthless if the characters lost their humanity - and that's what
Murphy doesn't see in many of the reality shows dealing with plastic surgery.
"It's not that interesting," he says, "because the people are all vain and
terrible. There are no real, heart-tugging cases that I've seen, and that's
what you need to get people invested. You need compassion, and you need heart,
because without that, plastic surgery's pretty much hollow and hideous."
From the amount of fan debate on the Internet over the motivations and
personalities of the characters, Murphy seems to have struck a nerve.
"It's almost like audience participation," McMahon says. "You really get
involved in it, and you stick up for the people that you like. That's been a
great trademark of Christian. Because, although he started out as such a rogue
and arrogant, he was the bastard, there have always been those moments where
you go, 'Oh, God, I really like him.' You get absorbed by him, and that's an
important part of what makes people come back."
Turns out it's the same for the actors as well, and that came to the fore when
Matt's paternity was revealed -- something the actors didn't know from the
beginning of the show (even though Murphy said he did).
"Actors joke about it all the time," Walsh says, "and it sounds so ridiculous
to the public, but you invest, in some psychological level, in these
relationships. Julian and I are very good friends, and we see each other
outside the set, but I don't see Joely except here.
"Yet, when we walk on that set, we're like husband and wife. In a place in my
head and my heart, she's one of my wives, and Matt's one of my kids."
So, in a way, both Sean and Walsh lost a son.
"Last year," Walsh says, "I would have been surprised at this information,
which was smart on the part of Ryan. It was strange. It upset some things here,
not in a bad way. But we were a little bewildered, and it may take a while for
the pieces to settle, which is exactly what's going on in the show."
If "Nip/Tuck" seems groundbreaking and fearless, look to Murphy.
"I don't know if I'm given more creative leeway," he says, "or that I take it.
I think it's the latter. I take it. I'm a really good fighter."
