Englund on 'I'm With Her,' 'V' and ... More 'Freddy'?
(Thursday, October 23 05:36 PM)
By Kate O'Hare
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Freddy meets Jason meets ... Teri Polo?
It's hardly Halloween without Robert Englund -- the mild-mannered, talented
actor behind the Freddy Krueger makeup in the "Nightmare on Elm Street"
movies. Last October, he did a guest shot on The WB's supernatural drama
"Charmed." This year, Englund's looking to lighten the Halloween mood with
a guest shot on ABC's new comedy "I'm With Her."
Airing Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 8:30 p.m. ET, the episode "All About Evil"
finds movie-star Alex Young (Polo) in a panic because down-on-his-luck film
director Leonard Heckman (Englund) plans to save his troubled theater by
screening his poorly made slasher flick, which was also Alex's first film.
Alex's boyfriend, teacher Patrick (David Sutcliffe), and his best pal,
Stevie (Danny Comden), wind up in trouble when they try to stop Heckman.
"The show knocked my socks off," Englund says, "and my wife has a crush on
Sutcliffe already, back from 'The Gilmore Girls.' She said, 'You've got to
do it.'
"But it's a new show, so we went through a lot of rewrites. I think there
was a new every day from the moment I said yes. They just tweaked
and tweaked right up until the last minute. We actually fixed one scene in
front of the audience, but it came out great.
"It wasn't like I got to walk in there with the claw on, come out of the
closet going 'Boo!' I really had to come up with a character. We went from
making the guy sleazy to sort of a nebbish to split the difference, because
he had to have some sympathy."
Although his face is hidden under latex scars as the knife-fingered
Krueger, Englund has become forever linked to the horror genre. With the
"Nightmare on Elm Street" movies out on DVD, and "Freddy Vs. Jason" having
done well at the box office this past summer, there's no end in sight to
the nightmare.
"It's almost like we're on our third generation of fans with these films,"
Englund says, "and the snowballing effect has contributed to my delinquency
as a horror icon."
But when he goes out in the street, the 54-year-old Englund is just as
likely to be recognized for his role as the sympathetic alien Willie in the
mid-'80s NBC miniseries "V" and "V: The Final Battle." Both explored themes
of the Holocaust and World War II resistance movements in the framework of
a contemporary alien-invasion story.
Now NBC has commissioned a "V" sequel from creator Kenneth Johnson, who
says he has delivered the first draft of the screenplay. Currently a three-
hour movie, it includes original cast members Faye Grant, Marc Singer, Jane
Badler and Englund, all of whom, says Johnson, "expressed a firm desire to
be included."
"Willie's a little older and a little balder," Englund says. "Maybe I can
get a perm and torture it over my bald spot."
But, Johnson cautions, "No one is attached yet as NBC hasn't greenlighted
the production."
While NBC ponders, "V" fans remain loyal and vocal. Englund recalls, "One
of the big publicity things we did for 'Freddy Vs. Jason' was down at this
huge convention they have in San Diego. I'm there with all the 'Lord of the
Rings' kids, for New Line Cinema.
"We go out on the dais, in this huge auditorium. They take the microphone
out into the audience, and the first 16 people were 'V' fans. I called
Kenny and told him that. The same thing happened to me in Austin, Texas,
and Las Vegas, doing publicity."
While the future of "V" hangs in the balance, the success of "Freddy Vs.
Jason" has prompted speculation about the future of both the "Nightmare on
Elm Street" and "Friday the 13th" (which spawned the hockey-masked Jason)
franchises.
Englund hears rumors. "It's a coffin nail -- but it's a great coffin nail,
because I love this guy -- Bruce Campbell as Ash, the monster-killer that
he played in the 'Evil Dead' movies, coming after Freddy and Jason, getting
both of us, and leaving the world safe from sequels.
"It would have to be a phenomenal . It would have to be Bruce and Sam
Raimi locked in a Palm Springs hotel for six weeks. It would be great for
him and great for us. We could put the franchises to bed with a big, super,
pop-culture, camp epic."
Campbell isn't so sure he wants to strap on Ash's chainsaw again. "From my
point of view," he says, "there's no reason for Ash to join in unless he
can kick both their asses, and I'd have to have that on paper.
"It's all bull talk right now, from junior executives. When I hear it from
some upper-level management, then I'll start creating some time in my
calendar. Check my Web site if you want the truth. If it's not on my Web
site, there's nothing to talk about."

All they need is to get Tom Cruise to play Focker's weird nerdy

I like Will, I think his character has been ruined since he went with Bob
but if they put him back with the real folk I think he'd shine without Toby
on top of him. I loved Joey Lucas' character and hope she would be back
more if Josh got a promotion in the next administration....if they show the

I was thinking that actually...but I'd like her and josh to get together if
not Joey Lucas and I dont think she could as DCoS...too much conflict with
Josh if he was CoS.

so she was....I remember now, I was thinking she played a soldiers wife who

she was in the show.
Cool....not heard much about it....will go look it up.

Universal Pictures has released the first photo from the upcoming "Meet the
Fockers," and the image holds clues as to why Ben Stiller's character in
"Meet the Parents" (2000) was so eccentric and neurotic.
The shot is a family portrait of the Byrnes and Focker families, who meet
for the first time in this film, the sequel to "Meet the Parents." While the
first installment centered on male nurse Greg Focker's (Stiller)
exasperating introduction to his fiancee Pam Byrnes' (Teri Polo)
conservative parents, "Meet the Fockers" focuses on the engaged couple's
attempt to bring their families together.
Speaking a thousand words and then some about the outcome of that meeting,
the photo portrays the two families as noticeably incompatible. The Byrnes
family, with Jack (Robert De Niro) as the father, is formal, poised and
preppy, while the Fockers, with Bernie (Dustin Hoffman) as the father, are
relaxed, holding hands and bohemian.
Jay Roach, who directed the first installment as well as such films as the
"Austin Powers" trilogy, returns to direct the cast of De Niro, Blythe
Danner and Polo as the Byrnes family and Hoffman, Barbra Streisand and
Stiller as the Fockers. The film opens in theatres on December 22.

By Josh Grossberg
It's official: Dustin Hoffman's a Focker.
The Oscar-winning actor will play Ben Stiller's dad in Meet the Fockers, the
sequel to 2000's blockbuster comedy Meet the Parents.
Hoffman will join a potent cast that already includes Parents parent and fellow
two-time Academy Award winner Robert De Niro, with whom Hoffman costarred in
1997's Wag the Dog. This time out, instead of planning a war to cover up
presidential sexcapades, the two thesps will face off over planning a wedding
of their two children.
The Focker part could help Hoffman overcome a recent box-office slump . The
erstwhile Tootsie has failed to wow moviegoers in such flicks as 1999's
Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, 2002's Moonlight Mile, and last year's
punchless combo of Confidence and Runaway Jury.
Joining Stiller, Hoffman and De Niro in the Universal comedy will be returning
cast members Blythe Danner (news) and Teri Polo (news); Jay Roach will be back
in the directing chair.
Meet the Fockers will pick up where Meet the Parents left off. After finally
managing to endear himself to his neurotic future in-laws, hapless male nurse
Gaylord "Greg" Focker (Stiller) must now introduce them to his parents before
he and fiance Pam Byrnes (Polo) tie the knot.
Of course, his laid-back parents are polar opposites from uptight ex-CIA (news
- web sites) man Jack Byrnes (De Niro) and his wife Dina (Danner). Presumably
hijinks ensue.
No word yet who'll essay the role of Mother Focker. At the premiere of his
latest comedy, Along Came Polly, Stiller revealed to USA Today his "dream"
choice--Barbra Streisand (news). Initial reports had Stiller's real-life
parents, Jerry Stiller (news) and Anne Meara, playing his on-screen 'rents.
The sequel's was penned by original Parents scribe Jim Herzfeld with an
assist from Tim Rasmussen and Vince DiMeglio.
Universal green-lighted a sequel soon after Parents grossed more than $166
million domestically over the 2000 holiday season. But instead of
rush-releasing the Fockers, the studio adopted a go-slow strategy to get a
solid first. Along the way, the studio changed the name of Stiller's
family from Fockers to Fokkers, apparently worried that the former was just one
letter away from an NC-17 rating, but has since changed the name back to the
original spelling.
Meet the Fockers starts filming in March and is slated to hit theaters on
December 22.

dunno if she's had work done but she is very hot. Suprised she did this
actually, I mean normally it's people like Charisma Carpenter who's looking
for work or Denise Richards who's not done anything for a while. Teri Polo
is about to start a major role in The West Wing and I'm suprised producers
would LET her do something like this...not that I'm complaining....lovely

Meet the Fockers
December 23, 2004
Family fiasco: a star-studded cast turns out in Meet the Fockers.
Sandra Hall is underwhelmed by a cumbersome return to this intergenerational
farce.
There was nothing complicated about the formula of the hit comedy, Meet the
Parents.
Mild-mannered metrosexual Ben Stiller meets the girl of his dreams, then has
to contend with his prospective father-in-law - alpha male Robert De Niro.
For the rest of the movie, De Niro growls and Stiller responds by creating
mayhem with his panicky pratfalls. The result netted box-office returns
hearty enough to justify a sequel.
Now Barbra Streisand and Dustin Hoffman enter the picture as Roz and Bernie
Focker. They're the parents of Stiller's Gaylord Focker, who, for reasons of
self-preservation, has shortened his given name to Greg.
Meet the Fockers sets us down in the Focker's hedonistic island retreat on
the outskirts of Miami. Here, Greg, his fiancee Pam (Teri Polo) and her
parents, Dina (Blythe Danner) and Jack Byrnes (De Niro), gather to get to
know one another while we sit back once again to observe the damage, which
is bound to be considerable.
Jack is a retired CIA operative with rigid ideas about the rightness of the
American way, while Bernie is a superannuated hippie, whose leftist politics
remain firmly stuck in the 1960s. As for Roz, she's a therapist specialising
in reinvigorating the sex lives of the neighbourhood's senior citizens and
she quickly divines the fact that Jack and Dina have demoted the sex act to
the status of an annual event.
Jay Roach, who directed the original, is back on the job and carries on
pretty much as before.
Having made his reputation with the Austin Powers movies, he's not exactly a
byword for subtle comic readings shot through with illuminating sociological
insights. He is one of American comedy's more dependable plumbers, for when
in doubt, as he often seems to be, he reaches for the toilet joke.
Fans of the Byrnes' cat, Jinx, will be happy to know that he's still using
the family lavatory and that he's at last learnt to flush. This is a knack
that proves to be particularly useful during his first encounter with the
Focker's omni-sexual chihuahua, which chases him into the bathroom only to
end up dog paddling for dear life.
A source of fart jokes is provided by the Byrnes' grandson, who also gives
us access to Jack's previously untapped nurturing side. Roach becomes
particularly creative
here, with results that only confirm the perils of sharing the spotlight
with children.
This toddler is a screen natural who quickly relegates De Niro to the status
of supporting player. Then again, comedy isn't De Niro's style - despite all
the self-parodying he's been doing since hitting middle age. When making fun
of himself, his face settles into a strangely twisted and spooky expression,
as if the muscles of forehead and jawline have become firmly locked in a
pained attempt to prove he's having a great time.
Fortunately, Streisand and Hoffman make lighter work of having fun. Wearing
a few extra kilos and a frizzy '70s-style halo of a hairstyle, Streisand has
lost the lean and hungry look she wore through her fifties and has settled
back into the bubbly good humour of her early films. And Hoffman twinkles in
much the same way as he does in his other comedy of the moment, I ?
Huckabees.
If only Roach hadn't wasted their talent on such a ponderous and puerile
. Even Stiller seems becalmed. A gifted physical comic with flawless
timing, he's practically left on the sidelines to supply double takes and
gobsmacked reaction shots at the surrounding confusion, and it isn't worth
the fuss.
At one moment, Roach has you wincing at bits that would sit well in a
teenage gross-out movie, at the next he's slowed the action to a geriatric
crawl, as if he can't decide on the demographic he's out to please and has
fallen into a limbo between them all.
From Sunny Oz, Rick :)
Proud Keeper of the talented & beautiful Halle Berry.

I like Will, I think his character has been ruined since he went with Bob
but if they put him back with the real folk I think he'd shine without Toby
on top of him. I loved Joey Lucas' character and hope she would be back
more if Josh got a promotion in the next administration....if they show the
campaign I'd hope he'd bring her in to help the campaign.

I was thinking that actually...but I'd like her and josh to get together if
not Joey Lucas and I dont think she could as DCoS...too much conflict with
Josh if he was CoS.

so she was....I remember now, I was thinking she played a soldiers wife who
was waiting for news of her husband who was lost in the iraqi
desert....dunno why I just immediatly went to that character when I realised
she was in the show.
Cool....not heard much about it....will go look it up.

I'd dump the whiny, ungrateful Will as fast as I could. With him being
on the Russell campaign, that's an easy exit. Instead, I'd bring back
Marlee Matlin's Joey Lucas to be White House Communications Director
(Toby's current job.)

Been there, done that. How about Deputy Chief of Staff? Bartlet once
commented she was challenging Josh in that job.

Yes, she was the best friend who sold out the call girl Sam was
seeing, in the first season. I wouldn't let that stand in the way,
though... very bit part.

She's turning up next in "Numbers" on CBS.

for me the show is Josh and Will. I could do with out the rest. I really
like Carol and Donna and think they need more air time and promotions with
whoever carries on the show next year (and I really think it has to be a
democrat so Smits or Russell. Personally I'm a huge fan of Gary Owen's in
Office Space and One Hour Photo and thought he'd be a great addition to TWW
but they havn't used him as much as I'd like. Personally I think have to
get Smits to stay on, Teri Polo is coming on as his Wife which is great as
she's another Sports Night veteran to join the show and it shows Aaron
Sorkin must still have some pull with the show. I know when Smits signed on
for this season both him and polo got a multi-year option at the end of this
season implying if the show survives with a new president then he will be it
and they'll be back next year.
And remember the show started about 6 months into Bartlet's presidency so
theres no reason they can't have Smits win the election before the season is
over...they've missed out a year sometime in the last 2 season so I dont see
why they can't jump to election night and have smits win then close the show
on Bartlet dying....then start season 7 with the state funeral for Bartlet
which would incorporate flashbacks to unseen campaign stuff and Smits hiring
people to run his White House then have episode 2 be a last few days of
Bartlet's life episode focusing on Sheen and Channing with Charlie, CJ, Leo
and Toby all making their last appearences then episode 3 have them jumped
ahead again to the inauguration with Smits being sworn in as Pres.
Ideally if I could choose everyone my cast would be:
Exsisting Characters:
Smits - President
Teri Polo - First Lady
Josh - Chief of Staff
Will - Policy Advisor and Senior Speach Writer
Elsie Snuffin - Deputy Senior Speech Writer
Amy Garner (Gardner?) - First Lady's Senior Advisor
New Characters:
Terry Kinney - Vice President
Megan Ward - Press Secretery (with Carol assisting her)
Greg Grunberg - dunno but I always find him very funny in everything I've
seen him in
Lee Tergesen - again dont know what role but I'm a big fan
I was going to suggest Reiko Aylesworth for a role but she's already been
int he show before IIRC.
I'd also like to see another Sports Night star, Sabrina Lloyd in some
role..as well as Tom Cavanah from Ed who was in an episode of Sports Night
but I never remember him being in TWW before...he's a fast talking funny guy
the way Sorkin writes and would work well in a role.
I dont think any promotions given to current characters are to unreasonable
and the new characters could easily be realistically established. I'd also
keep Donna in the show in some position but I dont know what, perhaps
assistant to Josh or maybe in Debbie's job.

Consuelos and Ripa played a cute couple on All My Children.

The producers of "Hope & Faith" didn't have to look far to find a love interest
for Kelly Ripa's character, while Teri Polo ("I'm With Her") is heading to "The
West Wing."
In a busy day for guest casting, Mark Consuelos, Ripa's real-life hubby, has
signed on to appear in three episodes of wife's ABC laffer. He'll play a
baseball player named the Gooch who moves into the house next door -- and
quickly falls for her.
Consuelos, who worked onscreen with Ripa when both were regulars on ABC's "All
My Children," is in Toronto shooting the Lifetime drama skein "Missing." He'll
tape his "Hope & Faith" segs in November and December, with the episodes likely
to air in February.
Meanwhile, Polo will play Jimmy Smits' wife in at least four episodes of NBC's
"West Wing" this season. She's also attached to appear in 12 more segs next
season, should the skein be renewed.
Polo appeared in last season's ABC laffer "I'm With Her," and she reprises her
role as Ben Stiller's fiancee in next month's "Meet the Fockers."

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In two high-profile castings, Emmy-winner
Kim Delaney and Teri Polo have landed key roles on Fox's "The O.C." and NBC's
"The West Wing," respectively.
On "The O.C.," which returns Thursday for its second season, Delaney will play
an ex-flame who reappears in character Sandy Cohen's (Peter Gallagher (news))
life. She is slated to appear in at least five episodes of the hot primetime
soap.
Delaney most recently starred in NBC's top-rated earthquake-themed miniseries
"10.5" and is slated to return for a sequel. She won an Emmy for her role as a
detective in "NYPD Blue," and later starred in her own short-lived cop drama
"Philly."
On "The West Wing," Polo will play the potential first lady as the wife of
Matthew Santos (Jimmy Smits), a three-term Democratic congressman from Texas
with strong presidential aspirations.
Polo is set to do four episodes this season and has an option for 12 more next
season if the White House drama returns for a seventh year. Smits also has an
option to return to "The West Wing" next fall.
Polo, played Ben Affleck's fiancee in "Meet the Parents," and the sequel "Meet
the Fockers," which opens Dec. 22.
